13.01.2022 CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE MYWA WRITERS' WALL AT THE GSPS 150th CELEBRATIONS 'What a great day !! So good to catch up with past and present staff and parents. Congr...atulations to all for a very successful day. Loved the school song and the blast of green and gold - well done to Mary and Barb on an excellent display of memories' Wendy Forsyth '19 years of happy teaching (most of the time) with great support from the admin staff. What they didn't know is the time I went to sleep inn front of the Grade One Class. Sitting in an armchair with the afternoon sun streaming in. Caitlin Bell was having a 'morning talk' in the afternoon and I must have closed my eyes. What woke me was the silence - 20 pairs of eyes staring at me - wondering what to do. Thank you Gundy for an incredible teaching journey' Trish Bagshaw 'I was Lolly Pop lady for 11 years. Loved all the children - they were great times' Anne-Marie Raymond 'Our family arrived from Charleville in May 1987. All of our 5 children spent time at GSPS, now our two daughters teach at GSPS. As a school mum I spent many years helping individual students with reading and maths- a most enjoyable experience. Life certainly is great at Gundy State' Judy Dunlop 'It was great to come back and see friends that I have not seen for 30 and 40 years. Some memories I treasure are my Grade 1 teacher, being in the choir and the band, bottled milk going warm in the sun, always being cold in class. I loved the Library, the Jacaranda tree and the jungle gym' Coral Spens-Black 'It has been my pleasure to be involved with GSPS first as a parent, then as a teacher at the Support Learning Centre and then the classroom. I love to see student that I have taught when they are back in town and to hear how their lives have progressed since primary school.' Helen Russell 'Being tuckshop convenor at GSPS was awesome. Great students, great staff, great place to work - It's GREAT at Gundy State !' Sue Smith 'I am Colleen Dunn's daughter. My mum was the one who got me into reading which led to me writing stories. I have never looked back ! My mother is the greatest ' Bethany 'My mum went to this school. She thought it was a great school' Kelsa 'Today was the best day ever because there were lots of memories to look back on and get my Mum Jayne to show me her favourite times she had at GSPS. I know if I came here I would have had a great time too !' Billy 'Lots of great memories. Athletics Carnivals in the grounds where the buildings are now, loved the grass. Playing marbles in the Jacaranda tree, the great friends whom I made. Being able to be part of a great school and community in my time, and still being able to bring my children back to share experiences with them. Keep being a great school'. Jayne Horne '150 years and I have had the pleasure of being part of GSPS for only some of them. It's all about children, friendships made, collegiate collaborations, watching potential develop, contributing to school community, life and learning. Being part of the business of literacy, personal growth and the joy of knowing one has made a difference is perhaps the 'raison d'être' Thank you to the wonderful community we liver in and to the many students who have given me so much pleasure.' Heather Haley Scalan 'My favourite memories of GSPS involve the beautiful nature around the school. The jacaranda tree, the fairy garden, the gum trees. What a wonderful place to learn and grow up'. Nicole Shenfield 'We were invited in early 2013 to be the Historical Managers for the 150th. We enjoyed every minute of working on our displays, researching, collecting photographs and liaising with many talented supportive community members. Lesley Hawker, Cath Woods, and our patient printer Mark Griffiths have to be commended. Lew Verney has given us confidence with his strong leadership and technological expertise. Many typists rescued us. Pam Chandler has been especially supportive with typing and sharing knowledge. Lois Phillips was ever ready to help at short notice. Our next projects are to learn typing and become computer literate. The DaweBell Project - Barb Dawes and Mary Bell 'I have always loved GSPS. Both my husband Peter and myself attended in the sixties and our three sons Matthew, Ben and Adam were here in the eighties. We followed them, with P and C, Tuckshop and I was a Teacher Aide in Special Ed and Pre School. We still come to all school fetes and work on the Lions BBQ. I enjoyed school and remember all my primary school teachers. I especially loved the big jacarandas in the playground, and the running track that was part of George St. Lifelong friends made.' Lynn Smith
