12.01.2022 Plantar fasciitis (pain under the heel of the foot or arch area) is the most common cause cited for heel pain. Other common causes of heel pain include: - Achilles tendinopathy (pain at the back of heel)... - Retrocalcaneal Bursitis (pain at back of heel) - Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome (pain along the inner aspect of ankle and/or into the bottom of the foot). Symptoms include numbness and tingling/sharp shooting pain to the arch of the foot and towards the forefoot. Overloading the foot may contribute to the symptoms of heel pain, they include: - Biomechanical faults like; stiff or tight ankle joint, stiff or tight big toe joint, flat feet. - Work habits (long hours of weight bearing activities) - Increased age & weight - Poor footwear choices Treatment/management include: - Appropriate footwear - Orthtoic therapy - Soft tissue therapy - Stretching the tight structures and strengthening the weak structures
