24.01.2022 Junior mixed tennis tournaments North East back on today- rain holding off!!

23.01.2022 Our Friday night comp is played by 4 teams by 4 players. Finals were played on 25th September and won by Jazz, Vlad, Lara and Angus. The next comp starts back on Friday 23/10 and coaching resumes on 12/10. Any enquirers to Matt Scarlett, Goonellabah club coach: Ph: 0415763857

21.01.2022 ***Update for all Goonellabah Tennis Club members and the general public*** It's been a while but competition tennis, tennis coaching, social tennis and court hire by members and the public is now happening. For court hire go to the IGA store in Rous Road Goonellabah.... There is still a requirement to be COVID-19 aware as outlined below. Social distancing Touch racquets instead of the regular post match handshakes Keep 1.5 metres away from other people while watching or attending an outdoors tennis activity. Behaviours To protect against infection, you should: Wash/sterilise your hands before and after you play and avoid touching your face while playing Not share water bottles and bring your own full bottle Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or hand-sanitiser when available, before and after eating, after going to the toilet, sneezing and coughing Cover your coughs and sneezes and dispose of any used tissue immediately Avoid touching your face Keep your distance from people who are obviously sick Be aware of what surfaces you touch. 20.01.2022 A near perfect night for tennis saw a few very close contests.......and a not so close one. As a result the table was evened up a little. The points table still takes in to account the uneven byes and uses the number of rounds played. The ladder positions are sorted on 'Totals' followed by '%FA'.

20.01.2022 Team Lancaster a thorn in the side of team Rose. Last Wednesday saw the GTC Summer Comp wrap up with a very close finish. At the end of the night it was team Lancaster that got the chocolates by 1 point over team Rose despite winning less games overall. Congratulations to team L: G. Lancaster, J. Hartley, D. Kerr, H. Barnett, J.Hutton & Jo. Giles. Team R an excruciatingly close 2nd - well done: A. Rose, C. Toohey, D. Salgram & P. Denmeade. It was a comp enjoyed by everyone who took part and good to see the continued support by all players.

17.01.2022 Well Done to Wednesday Night Doubles Winners n Losers! Winners Team Sullivan Div1 and Mowle Div2

15.01.2022 The first round after the Christmas/New Year break was held in blustery and warm conditions. There were a number of reserves filling in as many players are still away.Team Von Bratt did a fantastic job to nail their first win of the competition! Well done!! There was an incident during one match where a local pooch snatched one of the tennis balls that sailed over the fence - the ball was retrieved and continued to be used in the match! Rumours were rife that the aerodynamics of a wet ball was effected which changed the momentum of the game but not too sure about that. It's close at the top of the table almost half way through the competition and as they say "from here anything could happen".

14.01.2022 It's tight at the top with the young guns leading the way - well done both teams!! This week is the last before a 2 week break and back in the new year.

13.01.2022 A massive win by team Piggott has seen them surge to the head of the table with a useful gap to Sullivan. Scarlett's also hit some timely form to claw their way back in to contention for a potential top 2 finish. They've dropped off the pace after showing early form. With 4 weeks to go the 4 at the top look the likely the ones to fight it out over the chocolates.

13.01.2022 Humid, stormy and a wind that at times would blow a dog of its chain! That is what was served up last Wednesday on the courts. There were many shots that bounced 2 or 3 times in to the wind before getting to it to make a shot - but that's tennis! Team Scarlett is a clear early leader, but it's still early days. Plenty of time for the stragglers to crawl up the ladder.

12.01.2022 Last week was another non-event with a super cell dropping a stack of rain all over the place. The telling clash this week is the blockbuster between 2nd & 3rd on the table - teams Scarlett & Piggott. Good luck to all!

12.01.2022 Round 1 of the summer comp has come and gone with a mix of close and not so close results. The competition ladder will take in to account that not all teams have the same number of byes. The ladder order will filtered first by points (2 for a win, 1 for a draw and a bye, 0 for a loss). Then rounds won/rounds played (%). This is where the playing field is levelled due to uneven byes. Then by the aggregate of games won. The final filter if required is the games for/games against (%). The ladder below is how it stands after round 1.

11.01.2022 New Summer Comp Wednesday night tennis draw! Starts this week

11.01.2022 After a 4 week break, including the washout of the last round in December, it's game on again this Wednesday. Team Kay has clawed their way to top of the ladder due to them having their bye on the washout - but that's the breaks!! The match of the round is likely Sullivan v Piggott. Hopefully we get a start as the forecast is looking bleak and very likely wet conditions late in to the afternoon and evening. Good luck to all teams as you ease back in to play after the New Year shenanigans.

10.01.2022 After a wet start to the year we had a very competitive night of tennis. Team Kay has proven they are the 'forcer à battre' and have put a little daylight between themselves and the rest of the pack, but there are still some weeks to go. Most fixtures were decided by 4 or 5 games. Hopefully the weather holds out for the remainder of the competition and allows the stars to showcase their stuff!!

10.01.2022 With Round 4 done and dusted the competition is starting to take shape. Below are the rankings after last night's round. There is now a 2 week spell from the competition - round 5 is on Jan 8th. Hope you all have a safe and enjoyable Christmas / New Year break and see you in 2020!!

08.01.2022 All Coming Up Roses!! A bit of rain about on the night didn't deter team Rose from delivering a scorching win by 22 games over their opponent. They now surge ahead on games but are still on equal points with team Lancaster. Of the 2 rounds left in the competition, team Rose has a bye on the last which could be the difference to getting the socks or not at the end.

07.01.2022 ***Notice to all Goonellabah Tennis Club members and the general public*** As of midnight Friday 27th March, all tennis activity at GTC has been cancelled until further notice. This includes competition tennis, tennis coaching (including group and one on one sessions), social tennis and court hire by members and the public. This decision has been made after a recommendation from Tennis NSW on Friday 27th March to cease all tennis activities in NSW at all levels in view of the... continued escalation of the COVID-19 crisis across Australia. GTC will update members and the public when this situation has been reviewed. Until then take care everybody. Stay healthy and look after one another. Mark Anderson GTC President

06.01.2022 Come on down !!!!! Bunnings sausage sizzle on today! Drop in for a breakfast of champions!!

05.01.2022 It's tight at the top!! Only a dozen games and 2 points separates the top 3 in the summer comp! All teams are very competitive and the run home will be an interesting one. Welll done to Team Scarlett too for finally bringing home the chocolates. They have been close a few times but got the job done last night.

04.01.2022 2 Horse Race? - It's neck and neck to the finish by teams Rose & Lancaster as they surge afer big wins this week. Sull-And are still a chance for the sox but it won't be easy from 3rd position. Could it be that the Aussie Open inspires the less likely teams to perform above and beyond and cause some upset results?? Watch this space as the next couple of weeks unfold.

04.01.2022 Three points between the top four as the comp runs in to the last 4 rounds. Team Von Bratt is making a charge to the top after a couple of good weeks. The comp winner will be tougher to pick than a tungsten tip!!

02.01.2022 New Wednesday Night mixed doubles social competition starts tonight from 6.30- a 12 week Comp with full Covid19 procedures in place.

01.01.2022 In what was a very warm and balmy night for tennis there was a surprise result or 2 that has led to a surprising reshuffle of the ladder. Team Piggott has shortened their price to take home the socks with a comfortable win. It seems team Scarlett can also smell the pies and put in a useful night to keep team Buss out of the top 4. Aniba & Co. are maintaining their brand and are still a chance after a good win last night. Next week there are some crucial match ups which could still reshape the race to the line.
