21.01.2022 The Goonellabah Workers Sports Cricket Club is shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Life Member John Rose. John was also a current FNCCC umpire and will be sadly missed. All GWSCC teams will wear black armbands as a sign of respect this weekend.

18.01.2022 Anyone capable of playing cricket tomorrow let me know ASAP. Yet again we are short, and frankly I couldn’t be fu#*ed spending yet another Friday afternoon and evening ringing every person in Goonellabah in the vain hopes of getting someone to fill in. I await a clamour of responses.

14.01.2022 Results for Saturday 16th January. 1st Grade travelled to Casino to play Cecil Magpies and bowled first. Reece Gregor(0-17 off 8 ) and Michael German(3-7) started well, then Alex Battese(5-24) ripped through the middle order to dismiss Cecil for 103. Kale Hare(51) and Josh Clark(41) then put on a 91 run opening partnership to cruise to an easy victory. 2nds won the toss and batted at Heaps Oval against Brothers on a slow difficult outfield. Brad Walker(15) and Troy Harris(14)... began cautiously, with Ben Grace(27) and Tim Chatterton (15) adding valuable late runs in a total of 114. Olivia Osborne (3-15) bowled a brilliant opening spell, and Ben Grace(2-12) and Alec Watson (2-13) took regular wickets until the last wicket partnership snuck Brothers home. 3rds had the bye 4th Grade batted first against Brothers at Hepburn. Tom Dakin blasted 50retired, and got valuable contributions from Tom Lynch(30), Kel McGrath(26), Callum Hall(23) and Graham Armstrong(21) to total 9-200. Aiden Bromhead(2-7), Shaun Fergus(3-7) and Brad Gosling(2-10) ensured Brothers weren’t in the hunt, ending at 92.

10.01.2022 Results from Saturday November 21. 1st Grade made the bus trip out to Casino to play RSM on a good track with lightning outfield. RSM batted and came out all guns blazing, until regular wickets from Reece Gregor, Alex Battese, Nick Battese and Michael German kept the score to 140. Brad Walker(63no), Alex Battese(25no) and Riley Gregor(22) made light work of the chase, and a very enjoyable bus ride home. 2nd Grade played Kyogle at Heaps Oval and were made to bowl first. After ...Kyogle started well wickets to Pete Clark(3-24) and Charlie Alexander(2-23) kept the score to 8-174. After early wickets Cam Bryant(23) and Ben Grace(21) steadied the ship, and an 80 run partnership from Kaleb Armstrong and Will Brown(23) put us in the game. When John Brown strode to the crease, 34 were needed from the final 3 overs, and with a couple of mighty blows from John, and Kaleb Armstrong (82no) batting brilliantly at the other end, the game was won with a couple of balls to spare. 3rd Grade travelled to Casino to play RSM and batted, with the runs flowing freely. Warren Gallagher(90) and Tom Gregory(46) started well, with Shaun Smith(93no) and Pete Montgomery(33no) swinging hard to bring the tally to a formidable 5-296. Wilson Bensley (1-18) bowled a good opening spell, with Ravi Wijesinghe (3-23) and Pete Wright(2-18) bowling out RSM for 144. 4th Grade bowled first against Norths and restricted them to 138, with 2 wickets apiece to Lewin Grant, Andrew Criss, Callum Hall and Graham Armstrong. Tom Dakin bludgeoned a quick 50 to start the chase, getting help from Tom Lynch (18), Shaun Fergus(16), Callum Hall(15no) and Henry Williams (12no) to sneak over the line.

10.01.2022 Belated results for Saturday January 23rd: 1st Grade played Brothers at Rec8, batting first and were in early trouble, losing 3 early wickets. Riley Gregor(20), Brad Robertson(19) and Nick Battese(20) tried to rescue the innings but were all out for 85. Brothers chased the runs for the loss of 3 wickets, with Damien Santin, Brad Robertson and Lachlan Bensley taking one each. 2nd Grade travelled to league leaders Evans Head and fielded first. Despite a tight opening spell by K...aleb Armstrong (0-24), the Evans batters got away and late wickets to Mick Hall, Ben Grace and Brad Walker(2-15) kept them to a challenging 4-196. The chase started well, with young Tom Gregory(38) on 2nd Grade debut and Brad Walker(77) putting on 107 for the opening partnership. John Brown(24) hit two huge sixes to get within striking distance late, leaving 14 to win from the final over. Brad Johnson then hit a mighty six, and when Kaleb Armstrong hit three from the penultimate ball, scores were level. The last ball of the match though, was hit straight to a fielder, with the resulting runout ending the game in a thrilling tie. 3rd Grade was also at Evans Head, and fielding first, with Evans knocking up 6-238 despite Jackson Forster taking 2-28. After a couple of early wickets in the chase, Jackson Forster was at it again, smashing a blistering 90, whilst at the crease for only 10 overs! With Jayden Battese(38) and newcomer Steve Fields(24) also scoring well, the boys were on track for a win until late wickets saw them dismissed for 215 with 8 overs still left in the match. 4th Grade played against nearest rivals Lismore Workers and batted first. Tom Dakin(25) started well, with Kel McGrath(50ret) and Henry Williams(35) helping the total to 8-180. Even a couple of regular bowlers short, Shawn Fergus(3-20), Tom Dakin(2-17) and Captain Graham Armstrong(2-30) knocked over Workers for 118.

The last 2 weeks have been diabolical in trying to sort out teams with so many players out!

07.01.2022 Hope that everyone has had a wonderful Christmas and New Year period. Senior training resumes this week, with games starting this Saturday, January 9.

01.01.2022 Results for Saturday November 14: 1st Grade won the toss and batted against Norths in good batting conditions at Heaps Oval. After early wickets Alec Watson(42) and Alex Battese(22) steadied things before late wickets saw us all out for a paltry 121. Norths were cruising at 0-61 before Charlie Alexander took 5-15, with Alex Battese taking 3-10 from the other end to destroy the North’s lineup, before Lachlan Bensley took the final wicket to dismiss them for 87 and a remarkable... victory. 2nd Grade played Workers at Hepburn and batted first. Warren Gallagher(21) and Cam Bryant(18) started steadily, before Farid Shaikh blasted 91. Brad Johnson (27no) and other handy contributions from the lower order brought the tally to 8-217. Will Brown(2-27), Cam Bryant(2-48) and Mick Hall(3-18) took consistent wickets in dismissing Workers for 136. 3rd Grade had a forfeiture from Kyogle and a week off. 4th Grade bowled first against Brothers at Rec10 and immediately took control with Lewin Grant (4-7), Callum Hall(4-15) and Andrew Criss(2-3) routing Brothers for 56. Tom Chatterton(45no) made light work of the chase in an 8 wicket victory.
