12.01.2022 WE PROTECT THE IRREPLACABLE | PERSON RESCUED FROM SYDNEY UNIT FIRE Yesterday, Friday 18/09/2020, at approximately 7:48pm, Fire and Rescue NSW was notified of an... Automatic Fire Alarm activation at an address in Woolloomooloo. 'C' Platoon crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 004 Darlinghurst and 001 City of Sydney responded. Crews arrived within 4 minutes and numerous 000 calls were starting to be taken by our Sydney Communications Centre, reporting a top floor unit was on fire with multiple people reportedly trapped. This incident was subsequently upgraded to a Structure Fire 3rd Alarm due to the size of the fire and resources needed to combat this. One person was rescued by Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters and was treated and transported by NSW Ambulance. The unit involved in the fire was severly damaged by fire, however other units, which shared a common roofspace, were saved due to the fast response and hard work of firefighters. The following footage, is depicted by two of 001 City of Sydney firefighters, both wearing GoPro's, to give you a different Point-Of-View (POV) look on what roles Firefighters and Station Officers play at a large scale incident. As you will see, firefighting is an inherently dangerous and dirty occupation, however throughout the whole incident, our crews remained safe and perform their individual roles to a high standard. Our mission at Fire and Rescue NSW is to protect the irreplacable, and last night our 'C' Platoon crews did exactly that. Yet another great save.

11.01.2022 Great job by all involved

10.01.2022 We are looking for on call firefighters at our Goonellabah station.

06.01.2022 Celebrating 38 years today, Wednesday 20/1/21! OUR HISTORY 514 Banora Point In 1983, a temporary Fire Station was opened in Industry Drive, Tweed Heads South ...as a sub-station to 468 Tweed Heads. The commissioning of the fire station followed intense political, council, and local residential pressure, calling for the establishment of a second fire station in the area. The existing station at Tweed Heads was in Bay Street, on the extreme northern edge of the fire district, and just shy of the NSW/Queensland border. The establishment of the South Tweed Heads Fire Station enhanced the fire service delivery to the area which at the time was compromised by the constant heavy congestion upon the inadequate Boyd’s Bay Bridge in Tweed Heads, this being the main thoroughfare, the Pacific Highway. On Thursday 20th January 1983 South Tweed Heads Fire Station was commissioned as a Fire Station within the Tweed Fire District. The station was staffed by a Deputy Captain and 6 Retained Firefighters from 468 Tweed Heads Fire Station. A Dennis D-600 Mk1 Pumper, Fleet no. 386 was delivered to the station on 20th January 1983 at 1000 hours and the first call for the now commissioned South Tweed Heads Fire Station was at 11:35 to scrub alight at Sunshine Ave South Tweed Heads. In April 1983, South Tweed Heads Fire Station was renamed to Tweed River Station. It would hold this name for 26 years. In 1986 a new Boyd’s Bay bridge was opened alleviating the traffic problems, and reports were submitted to close the temporary Tweed River station. The proposal to close Tweed River Fire Station was met with stern opposition from local residents, the Tweed Shire Council, and the local member of parliament. The issue was also heavily scrutinised by the media. Subsequently, Tweed River Fire Station was kept open and the pumper was upgraded to an International 1710C appliance, Fleet no. 655. In the late 90’s, Tweed River Fire Station moved from Industry Drive to Corporation Circuit. It was still managed by 468 Tweed Heads Captain Douglas Connolly and led by Deputy Captain David Martain. On the 1st of July 2000, Captain Douglas Connolly transferred to station 514 Tweed River and officially became Captain of 514. Along with Captain Connolly, additional firefighters transferred to compliment Tweed River station with more sufficient crewing. In January 1999, an Isuzu FTR-800 T1 1900 Pumper was put into service at Tweed River Fire Station, setting a new standard with appliances after many years of alternating between two Dennis D-600’s and three different models of the International Acco’s. On the 1st of October 2000, Retained Firefighter Daryl Pearce transferred from 362 Lismore Station, where he had served since first joining NSW Fire Brigades on the 15th of September 1986. On the 15th of July 2004, Retained Firefighter Daryl Pearce was appointed Captain of 514 Tweed River. He still holds this rank today and has been a pivotal leader of this station. On the 1st of September 2005, 514 Tweed River received their new (and current) Class 2 firefighting pumper. It was officially handed over by Minister Tony Kelly. On the 27th of November 2009, Fire & Rescue NSW’s Commissioner Greg Mullins approved a name change from Tweed River Fire Station to Banora Point Fire Station. This change came from our community stakeholders pushing to have a Station to call their own. Banora Point Fire Station was selected to host the Volunteer Firefighters Championships from 24th October to 29th of October 2010. This significant event was held on the PCYC Oval off Recreation Street, Tweed Heads. In 2012, a much-needed upgrade took place for Banora Point Fire Station. A major refurbishment was undertaken at Banora Point Fire Station in Corporation Circuit, Tweed Heads South. It was then presented by FRNSW Commissioner Greg Mullins, and local MP Geoff Provest. In October 2018, 6 Banora Point Firefighters climbed 1504 stairs in the Sydney Tower to raise money for Motor Neuron Disease research at the Firies Climb for MND event. TODAY 514 Banora Point Fire Station isn’t slowing down. It remains a busy station as part of Zone RN2. It plays a pivotal role in the Tweed Shire’s emergency services and its service demand will only increase as the community continues to develop at a rapid pace. Further property developments in Tweed Heads South, Banora Point, Terranora & Bilambil are currently underway which will result in an increased population, which may increase demand of firefighting resources & fire preparedness engagement. It’s estimated that Banora Point Fire Station has responded to approximately 11,768 calls since opening. Data shows that between January 1987 and January 2021, Pumper 514 has responded to 10,530 incidents, 299 of which were working structure fires & 581 being motor vehicle accidents. 22% of these total incidents were fire & explosion related. As of 20/1/2021 514 Banora Point is currently crewed by Captain Daryl Pearce, Deputy Captain Jamie Bowe; Firefighters: P Wills, A Hodgson, E Whitehouse, A McKay, M Wells, P Haywood, C Bowe, T King, P Walker, C Carroll, S Longworth, Z King, A Paton & I Williams. 02.01.2022 PREPARE FOR FLASH FLOODING AS MORE RAIN EXPECTED Motorists and business owners in low lying areas of the CBD are advised to be aware of the risk of flash floodi...ng overnight as the Wilsons River rises and Council close levee gates this evening. Carparks on the riverside of the levee have already been closed. ** EDIT ** The picture below shows one of our larger levee gates -the Upper Hensley gate - that will be closed if the river continues to rise. The BOM is forecasting heavy rain overnight and the Wilsons River is predicted to reach the minor flood level of 4.2m later tonight and may reach 5m tomorrow, Lismore City Council’s Local Emergency Management Officer Scott Turner said this afternoon. We will commence closing levee gates this evening and this means heavy rain falling directly in the Lismore basin could cause flash flooding in the CBD similar to what we experienced just before Christmas, he said. Motorists are advised not to park their vehicles in low-lying areas around Dawson Street and Uralba Street and CBD businesses affected by the pre-Christmas flash flood are advised to be ready to move equipment, vehicles and stock to higher ground. Residents are urged to monitor conditions and be prepared for potential flash flooding.
