23.01.2022 Baby Nigel showing us how close the fire came to our house. Our beloved apple tree is not fairing so well despite sprouting new shoots a couple of months ago. Still, today, the hill above us smoulders on. It’s safe, it’s just a constant sensory reminder. Thank you, from everything I have, for all of your support and love. I don’t know how or why, but things just keep on happening that are sad. Luckily there’s two snuffley’ munchikin creatures that need attention! ... X GWO

22.01.2022 HELLO! It’s us, the Baby Son’s! Mum and Mim asked us to tell you they haven’t forgotten about you, they promise. ‘Apparently’ we are time consuming... ... Lots of things have been falling. Like rain and tears. So much so we nearly went swimming on the weekend! Mum said she’s got lots of updates to share as soon as she can. They both love you all (but obviously us more) - Landon & Bronson X GWO

21.01.2022 When you don’t get a Christmas stocking so you make your own... Maybe it’s the year for it, maybe it’s just the right time. People keep asking how I am. I reply I’ve definitely been better.. Then something else happens, so it keeps being true. ... However, the most important reasons are okay, all of the little lives are thriving and loving. My little Mim and family of loved ones are the important reasons that keep this small tribe growing and happy. We couldn’t do it without your love and support and again I am truly sorry for not getting back to you all and regularly sharing our purpose. Thank you for staying with us. 16.01.2022 Help us celebrate NAIDOC Week with our precious wombats. There are 38 First Nations clans in Victoria, each with their own unique culture, language and ceremoni...es. In Victoria the wombat is variously known as Wariin (Taungurung - Seymour area) or Wambir (Boonurung -Frankston area and Wurundjeri - Melbourne area ). This stocky marsupial is unusual in that the pouch opens toward the rear, which avoids getting dirt in the pouch when mum is digging. The First Nations People of Australia have cared for this land and its living creatures for 65,000 years. We wish all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people a happy NAIDOC week 2020. #NAIDOCWeek #naidocweek2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe See more

14.01.2022 From little things, big things grow We still can’t comprehend this gift. The exceptional effort and work we have humbly received. We knew we were running thin on the capacity and efficiency of our solar system and prepared to upgrade in the future but due to the bushfires our need became desperate. ... During the weeks and months after the fires the smoke hung thick and prevented much sun reaching the solar panels and due to the damage to the phone lines and the power lines linking the Goongerah community, we were one of the few houses that had the only form of connection to the outside world via internet. This was vital in the weeks after the fire front came through, as the forest was still burning, we were still at threat. Having access to the internet to check weather reports, communicate and monitor the fire’s movements was critical. There were countless times when our solar system failed. We were rationing fuel for the generator as our community was inaccessible, we had no choice but to fumble in the dark with head torches and pray that ‘Wombat Magic’ would again protect us if anything were to flare up again. You all know our story and our struggle with coming to terms with our drastically distorted backyard, forest, river, environment, world. A few words on social media that expressed our dearth encouraged some of you to notify Gippsland Solar (RACV Solar) of our challenges. Gippsland Manager Landon Moss arrived on our front lawn and observed, and listened. He saw us, our life, our dream. Within the next few weeks, even throughout the pandemic, we found ourselves watching as a small crew began installing our new life. Anyone who has worked with construction, and wombats combined, knows how seriously wombats react to ‘Earth Works’. Landon and the crew were so patient and understanding when we discussed many alterations and ‘wombat proof’ strategies and safety. As carers know, this sensitivity to wombat habitat and behaviour is hard to find and so incredibly valued. We can’t begin to express how grateful and thankful we are to RACV Solar (Gippsland Solar), Landon, Andy and crew. We are overwhelmed and excited to share with you the foundations of our new life and dreams. X GWO

10.01.2022 Emily and Landon in iso This is the Emily, founder of the Goongerah Wombat Orphanage, with Landon, a 4 month old orphaned bare-nosed wombat joey (Vombatus ursi...nus). Whilst Landons mum survived the recent Australian bushfires, she was sadly killed a month later after being struck by a car.
