20.01.2022 Please note: The board meetings scheduled for next Monday - Wednesday at the Lodge have been cancelled.

16.01.2022 A major internet outage has knocked out phone lines and services to critical services around the Kimberley. The outages have impacted local police stations, Bro...ome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service and Broome and Kununurra Courthouses this morning. The outage was first noted at the Broome courthouse during the sentencing of a prisoner, when the court lost its connection to the man’s solicitor. The proceedings had to be adjourned and a number of other sentencings had to be pushed back until the reason for the fault could be identified. Local police in Derby and Kununurra have also posted to social media to advise people they have lost all phone and computer capabilities, and the BRAMS office has closed until the outage is resolved. Multiple businesses have lost access to Eftpos, while newsagents have reported Lotterywest's services have also been impacted. The impact of the outage appears to be inconsistent and differ between providers, while the overarching cause is not yet known.

16.01.2022 REMINDER: LOCKDOWN RULES APPLY IF YOU'VE COME FROM PERTH Kimberley Police have issued a warning and reminder that anyone who has been in Perth or Peel regio...ns at any point since Saturday April 17th must adhere to the current lockdown regulations in place in those regions. Been to Perth? Here's what you need to know This means: Face masks are mandatory for those aged over 12, except while you are at home, during vigorous outdoor exercise or while in a vehicle with members of your own household. You must stay home except for these four reasons: - For work where it is not possible to work remotely. - For purchasing essential goods including food, groceries, medical or necessary supplies. - For one hour of outdoor exercise per day. - For medical or health care purposes, including looking after the vulnerable. If you visited one of the other potential exposure sites in the time frames listed, you must get tested for COVID-19 and self-isolate until you return a negative result. Potential exposure locations: https://bit.ly/2MaqcdB Kimberley Police Superintendent Greg Crofts says he understood the restrictions would be disruptive for people. "We're expecting this to affect a number of people in the Kimberley," he said. "Residents with friends staying: we're relying on people doing the right thing. "We're asking accomodation providers to help us with this - people who have been in Perth or Peel should be in isolation, not using shared facilities." He said it was critical people obey travel restrictions in place for Aboriginal Communities, a majority of which remain closed to outside visitors (see here for more info: https://bit.ly/3nk1hlQ). He said travellers returning to Perth must do so by the most direct route possible. 10.01.2022 The KLC is extremely proud of Gooniyandi ranger Roneil Skeen, who has recently been accepted into the University of Western Australia. As a boy, Roneil loved s...pending time with his family, out in the bush hunting and fishing. From a young age, the proud Gooniyandi man knew he wanted to look after and manage country. At sixteen years of age, with the help of his grandfather, Roneil scored a volunteer position with the Kimberley Ranger Network. It wasn’t long before Roneil’s supervisor noticed his passion and work ethic and he gained a full time position as a ranger. Through the program he completed a Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management and has since been accepted into the University of Western Australia to continue his studies! Roneil says the Kimberley Ranger Network provided a solid foundation for further study in Conservation and Land Management and says encouragement from his old people motivated him to pursue further study. My family, my aunties and uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers always told us (youth) that we are the next generation and we must look after the land. Their words have encouraged me to get where I am today. I want to be a role model for the next generation. One day I’d like to be a ranger coordinator, or run my own program. I love working for my people and for my country. We are positive this won't be the last you'll hear of Roneil, we know he's yet to shine even brighter than he already is! Congratulations Roneil on achieving your dreams, we are behind you all of the way!
