24.01.2022 We have some gorgeous fruit and vegetables in our fridges this week. Even if you have had your November pantry visit, if you would like some more fresh produce, come over on Friday afternoon between 12.30 and 2.30pm. Wise to call us Friday at about 12 pm noon on 6284 7003 to check the fridge still has stock!

22.01.2022 Some seasons of life bring loss and change that mess with our head and heart. How can we manage the ache and the confusion when things don't turn out as we hoped? Seasons for Growth is a 4 week course in a supportive small group that examines how we respond to change, loss and grief. Starting from autumn, it uses the 4 seasons to map a journey from accepting the loss to dealing with it and finding a new balance in life. 20.01.2022 We thrive due to the work of volunteers: Good Shepherd Anglican Church ran a Pantry Appeal, and as you can see, people donated generously! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Anglicare staff brought the van full of goodies to our Centre. Then the youth group unpacked the bags and put the items on shelves. Finally, our team of Pantry volunteers will take clients' orders and pack the items for their use. #loveteamwork

17.01.2022 It's time.. for a sausage sandwich! Sadly lacking so far in 2020, we are able to sell you some at the Market Day on 7 November (10 am - 1 pm) at the Gordon Community Centre, 110 Lewis Luxton Ave, opposite the IGA. We thank Jordo's Chop Shop for donating the sausages, and Baker's Delight Lanyon for donating the bread.

16.01.2022 The Arawang Emergency Relief Hub is open again on Monday mornings, 9.30 am - 12.30 pm! You can pick up free pantry supplies from the team at the Arawang Anglican Church, cnr Marconi Cr and Kett St, Kambah (not too far from the grazing metal sheep). All the best to our dear Arawang friends as you serve your local community

16.01.2022 So while you're relaxing in January, why not join our crew making squares for rugs for people in need? We are partnering with "Wrap with Love" to knit and crochet squares 25 cm x 25 cm. Twenty-eight squares go into each rug. The rugs are sent all over the world to those in need.

16.01.2022 The Street Library in front of the Gordon Community Centre has reopened! One box is for adult books, the other box is for children's books. So take a book, bring a book, read a book! Please note we can not guarantee that the books are clean. So we recommend you wipe down the book you choose with a disinfectant cloth.

15.01.2022 Introducing Di, one of our wonderful new volunteers at the Pantry. Di has lived in the Lanyon Valley since 1992. Since retiring from the Public Service, Di has free time to be giving back to the local community. Di enjoys the social interaction and using her organisational talents at the Centre. You can chat with Di on Tuesday afternoons at the Pantry, and ask her about her craft and art projects. The Pantry is open Tuesdays, Wedesdays and Fridays from 10 am - 3 pm. 14.01.2022 The Lanyon Pantry that is run out of the Gordon Community Centre is seeing an increase of people accessing the service and we rely on the generosity of our community to donate food and other essential items during these hard times. The pantry items we are in need of are: - Tinned Vegetables including potatoes, peas, green beans, carrots and mixed vegetables. - Toothbrushes and Toothpaste... - Shampoo and Conditioner - Laundry Liquid and Laundry Powder - Dishwashing Liquid - Cereal - Soap - School Snacks- Rice cakes, sultanas, fruit cups We appreciate any donations you can give! It strengthens the social and emotional wellbeing of participants who are dealing with significant life changes by: Exploring the impact of the change and loss on everyday life Learning new ways to respond to these changes The small group program will run for 4 sessions of 2 hours.... 07.01.2022 Feels like it's Christmas soon! We are asking for donations of special Christmas food and items as well as unwrapped gifts to bring some extra JOY to our clients. As our 'Christmas Cave' opens on 8 December, it would be helpful if you could bring your items to the Gordon Community Centre before then. We also thank local schools and businesses for joining in our Christmas Wish List Appeal.

06.01.2022 A huge thank you to the Lanyon community who donated 17 large garbage bags filled with cans and bottles for recycling at the Gordon Community Centre’s recent Market Day. The team at the ACT Container Deposit Scheme have now confirmed that we collected 1466 cans and bottles. Not only does this help the environment and reduce waste to land fill, it equates to $146.60 that will go directly to support the running of the Gordon Community Centre. Thanks to everyone for their contribution!

04.01.2022 So where exactly is the Lanyon Pantry that runs at the Gordon Community Centre? On the corner of Woodcock Drive and Lewis Luxton Ave, you'll see the IGA supermarket. The Gordon Community Centre shares the carpark with the IGA and the Gordon Family Practice (medical centre).

04.01.2022 Don't forget to save your cans and bottles to bring to the Great Gordon Market Day on Saturday 7 November (10 am - 1 pm)! We will take them to the ACT Container Return Depot and the funds raised will support Community Centre activities. Please bring them in a light coloured plastic bag or in a crate or box. That makes processing easier
