25.01.2022 With the easing of coronavirus restrictions, all Gordon Park Scout Group sections have now finished Scouting@Home online meetings and returned to face to face activities. We welcome enquiries from families interested in joining the scouting adventure.
25.01.2022 Congratulations to our first Joey to achieve the Joey Scout Challenge Award - the peak award for the Joey section in new our achievements pathway. Completing the award includes individual elements and participation in activities with the Joey unit.
25.01.2022 Gordon Park Cubs at the Kingsford Smith Memorial for Scouts in Action Month - learning some Australian aviation history and practising our 'glider arms' (and social distancing!). Followed by a visit to the viewing platform at the Brisbane domestic airport where we saw lots of parked planes due to the travel restrictions, but also a few taking off and landing. During Scouts in Action Month sections from scout groups around Australia (and some other countries) participate in program activities related to the theme for that year - this year's theme is 'Flight'.
24.01.2022 ANZAC Day 2021 - Brisbane City Parade
24.01.2022 Our Scouts successfully completed two hikes during the school holidays - a 2 day Explorer level hike and a 3 day Adventurer level hike. Well done to the youth who planned and led the activities, and the Scouts who joined the adventure to support them.
24.01.2022 Congratulations to our first two Cubs to complete their Grey Wolf award under the new progression framework. The Grey Wolf is the peak award of the Cub section. Activities completed include a development of camping, bushcraft and bushwalking skills, exploration of new interest areas, and a youth lead (adult supported) four hour bushwalk with their fellow Cubs.
24.01.2022 They're back! Come and join us for a sausage at Bunnings Stafford. A big thanks to our families who helped provide the extra support needed to deliver a COVID-19 safe sausage sizzle.
21.01.2022 Usually at this time of year our Scouts would participate in SSS (Scout Section Skills) - an annual region event involving over 500 scouts. This year due to the coronavirus restrictions each group conducted their own camp and practical activities. Our scouts camped at Gordon Park den, in individual tents to allow for social distancing.
21.01.2022 Scouts in Action - Flight month. What a month! Gordon Park Joeys were busy. First to the library to research all that flys. Up to Mt Coot-Tha to spot astronauts, planes and helicopters. Rock-climbing (what goes up must come down), paper plane making and flying, and a huge finale making our own kites!
20.01.2022 Gordon Park Cubs had a city adventure - catching public transport, 'hunting for lions' in the CBD, and returning via South Bank for a disco, movie, and sleepover at the den. Very exciting to have our first overnight activity since COVID-19 restrictions began.
20.01.2022 This week the Cubs built a ballista (inside due the rain), practised some square lashings, and tested the impact on flight path of size, shape, and angle of release. Lots of fun flinging 'soft ammunition' around the den!

10.01.2022 #Navigating Noosa by kayak and 4WD. Gordon Park Venturers and some older Scouts enjoyed a weekend camp exploring at Noosa North Shore. The adVenture. started with a paddle along the river from Harry's Hut, which was glorious! On Sunday, fun was to be had with a 4WD expedition along Teewah Beach to Freshwater Creek, King's Boar Circuit, Seary's Creek and Cooloola Recreation Area.
10.01.2022 The Gordon Park Scout Group has been successful in obtaining a Gambling Community Benefits Fund Grant. The funds will be used to paint the inside and outside of Scout Hall in the corner of Bradshaw Park, and update signage. Keep an eye out for works to commence in the coming months.
08.01.2022 A big congratulations for Grey Wolf completion!!! The Grey Wolf is the highest award in the Cub section achievement pathway. This one was a unique journey - commenced before coronavirus, a youth planned and led walk done just before restrictions made it impossible, the last tasks completed while Scouting@Home with Zoom, and just enough numbers able to attend for a celebration at the first Cubs face to face meeting at the den this term. A special effort of perseverance and resilience. BRAVO and WOOF!!

06.01.2022 The results of the Scouts Australia Resilience Survey are in, and it’s official young people who participate in Scouts have an overall better life satisfactio...n than their peers, and the longer they stay in Scouts the more resilient they are likely to become. This is exciting news for our Scouting community across the country, as it reaffirms what we’ve known for over 113 years Scouting and resilience go hand in hand! We are so pleased to share with you the results of Resilient Youth Australia’s survey into the impact of Scouting on the resilience of young Australians. Check out the key findings from the Resilience Survey https://bit.ly/scoutingeffect
