Great weather and a well run open was the word coming back. Jesse Hanigan has notched up his second open win for the season taking out the Open champion with scores of square the first round and 3 over the second round. Coming in third was our own open champion Ty Williams. The A grade boys having been putting in the work and the ...results have shown this season with both players playing off scratch now. B grade saw a good first round from Ben Groves but he couldn’t real in the score on day 2. Grover finished fourth overall for the weekend in B grade. The news of the Penrith panthers winning the minor premiership had the party started early and golf on day 2 was a struggle after a few celebratory drinks Saturday night. Great results and as always a great showing of players from Gordy for another open in the FNQ region. David Bawden for working the counter and getting everyone organised for carts and drinks. Peter Walters, John Richards, Allen McFarlen and Graham Hendrie I cant thank you guys enough for the bbq, ball spotting, drinks cart and just helping out the day run like a dream! Ben Barnes course and greens were great, we have really turned a corner and moving in the right direction. A lot of compliments today. On the other side Cairns took down Innisfail in all grades but it was a tight tussle with Innisfail not giving up easily. All in all a great day and we thank all players for coming to the Royal G and we are looking forward to Innisfail golf club in two weeks. Lloydy

16.01.2022 It’s with great sadness that we let everyone know one of our valued members Louis Siedle lost his battle with cancer last night and has passed away. Louis has been a member of Gordonvale golf club for quite a while and also was the previous secretary and heavily involved in the Vets golf in the FNQ region. He had so much passion for the game and Gordonvale golf club. Rest In Peace Louis.

16.01.2022 Big weekend of golf for the Gordy boys. All 3 grades headed to Palmer reef for the FNQ pennants finals with semis on Saturday and Grand final today. Some tough conditions with early rain Saturday and huge winds both days made golf difficult. A grade had a tough match up against Half moon bay. Wins from Lloydy and Ty were squared off by a loss to Fleety and first loss of the season to Jesse. It came down to the final match of DC against Ollie. Bad break in a bunker on the 19...th hole saw DC go down and we missed out by that much. B grade came up against Mareeba in they’re Semi. They kept the momentum rolling with 5 wins across the board, 2 matches 5/3 and 2 matches 5/4 with the last match winning 1 up. C grade have been the form Gordy team this year going in strong and undefeated but the big stage was overwhelming for the boys and they went down in all 5 matches. B grade went through to the grand final today taking on Cairns. Some very tight matches and going down to the wire the boys couldn’t get the job done going down 2/3 with a win from Chook and Grover. Another positive note 3 of our A grade players Jesse Hanigan, Ty Williams and Dave Cameron were selected in the FNQ representitive team of the year. With 4 players being picked that’s a great achievement for the club and individuals who went and competed at the Opens this year. For such a tough year with Covid and all the other hurdles it’s been a great pennants season for Gordonvale golf club. To get all 3 teams into the semi finals and 1 team to the grand final was a great accomplishment and a special thanks to all the players that have played this season and finals, it’s been a great team effort all year. FNQ run a great event all weekend and Palmer reef was in great condition. Another big thanks for the clubs who hosted rounds, really has brought some comradery and it’s been a great year to play golf with your mates and make some new friends on the course. It really has been a good year for Golf in the FNQ region. Thanks again to all the players and everyone involved with helping the team, running of the days or volunteering I can’t thank you all enough. Hopefully 2021 we can get over the line and bring some shields home. Cheers Lloydy.

15.01.2022 Today we travelled down the road to Innisfail golf club for round 2 of Pennants. The course was in great condition, greens rolled nicely and great hospitality. Being a tough task taking on Innisfail on they’re home track, the boys were excited and ready for a big day ahead. And what a day it was, A grade winning 3/2, B grade winning 4/1 and C grade winning 3/2. Gordy taking wins in all grade. Some great stories from the day with a few of the boys to tell later around the cl...ub when you see them. Some for the day were Shep coming into the team late in the week with an injury to Jesse Hanigan and what an impact winning 5/4 with a stellar performance of golf the old master just showing his caddy apprentice he’s still got it. Brock Mills also coming into the team for B grade late in the week with a late withdrawal and making his pennants debut with a solid 2/1 win after being a few down early. Young gun Darar Thach moved up the order in his second game of pennants to 2 and the move up didn’t worry him also having a comfortable win. C grade had Pete Dalziel with another solid win 6/4 after winning his first round match at Gordy 7/6. He’s showing his pennants dominance this year. Mick Johnson had a huge win 9/7. Story of the day was Danny Murfin playing his second pennants game. C grade were locked 2 matches all with Danny’s match being the decider. What a game, they went to 21 holes with Danny walking. Running out of water and yes beer he was struggling down the 20th with a quick sip of water and a bit of encouragement from the captain he was on his way. Almost putting from off the green for birdie and missing the putt back they were off to 21. Danny had some team mates in tow this time keeping him on track and with that he got the job done to send C grade through to the finals. Awesome job mate that’s what it’s all about! With that we had a great day, few caddies coming along for the ride, 3 wins and locked ourselves a spot for all 3 grades in the finals. Two weeks time we take on Cairns at El arish golf club to lock ourselves into the top spot for the finals. Sunday Red, all buisness!

12.01.2022 After a solid first round win, this Sunday is round 2 of Pennants. We take on Innisfail at Innisfail. Tough ask taking them on at they’re home track but the boys are pumped for a good showing! Teams are A grade- Jesse Hanigan, Ty Williams, Dave Cameron, Jay Lloyd, Anthony van Fleet. Res- Shep... B grade- Darar Thach, Ben Groves, Graham Hendrie, Michael Morgan, Brad Tipping. Res- Aaron Thomas C grade- Mick Johnson, Tim Farrow, Pete Dalziel, Danny Murfin, Phil Gallen. Res- Jonathan Maitland. Good luck to all our players.

12.01.2022 Third and final round of the FNQ pennants was played today at El Arish golf club and we travelled down to take on Cairns. We were 2 from 2 and taking on Cairns which would determine if we would finish first or second on the ladder heading into finals. A grade put up a good fight with our two top players Jesse Hanigan and Ty Williams having convincing wins but not enough to go down 2/3. ... B grade was a tight tussle with young gun Darar Thach going down with his first loss, Chook Hendrie having a day out and a big win. Brad tipping was the player to get the boys over the line winning on the 20th hole. B grade got up 3/2 and take top spot heading into finals. C grade showed dominance again with a 4/1 victory the second time to rack that up in the season. Tim Farrow notching up a win at 1, Peter Dalziel going through undefeated with another good win. Danny Murfin is relishing the pennants format and Mick Johnson a good win. C grade have also gone through undefeated and top of the southern ladder. With that A grade finish second and B and C grade finish on top of the southern zone. What a great achievement to get all 3 grades into the finals something ive never seen at my time at the club. Awesome effort from all players involved through all 3 rounds it’s been a great effort. Two weeks time we head to Palmer Sea Reef to bring home some winners flags and Trophies. Let’s wish the boys good luck and hope they have a successful finals weekend.

10.01.2022 The Parkview Hotel Gordonvale Open has been run and won! (Not without some technical difficulties) First of all thanks to the Parkview Hotel for the generous $3000 sponsorship without them we wouldn’t have run such a successful tournament. Congratulations to our two open winners. ... Men’s winner with a first round score of 1 under and second day 2 under Ty Williams. Two rounds under par with a finishing score of 137 is exceptional golf! Gordonvale now has a new plus marker with Tybos handicap going to +0.3 Ladies winner was Annabelle Hutchings. Annabelle said she had a rough first day of 77 but turned it around and shot a great round of 72 Sunday to easily cover the ladies field. Thanks for coming and competing Annabelle you have a great future ahead of you. We had an internet issue Saturday afternoon which then we had to input all players one by one back into the comp for Sunday manually by name and golflink, which also meant we couldn’t have some results for Sunday morning before we play. We do apologise for this inconvenience. Overall we are happy with the two day event and we hope all players and visitors enjoyed the weekend. The Club thanks you all for coming and supporting Gordonvale golf club, it was great to be able to run a big tournament again in these trying times. Internet is back up and going today and I’ll be down at the club the next few days when I have some time around work to run through results and prizes. I will hopefully have a full run down by the end of the week, hope everyone understands and I’ll get this sorted as soon as possible. Would also like to thank personally the Bar staff Belinda and Pete on the Saturday and Pete on the Sunday. Thank the green staff for presenting a great course considering where we were 12 months ago with greens, surrounds bunkers and more. Mowing the greens and raking bunkers both days. Jesse for helping cut holes Friday afternoon and Chook and Roger cutting holes and moving markers Saturday afternoon. Both days were run well and with 120 players there was a lot to get through but it was amazing! Your hard work has paid off with a successful event. Thank you all once again! Lloydy Next weekend is the Babinda open. Do yourself a favour and head down to this little gem of a course and support another local club who runs a great event. Our next event will be the Drummond cup round 3 at Gordy on the 30th of August.
