22.01.2022 Do you take your dog swimming a lot in the warmer months? Swimming is great for dogs! It’s good exercise and awesome fun, but having wet ears for a prolonged period can lead to painful infections. To help prevent infections, try cleaning your dog’s ears after each swim or bath. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to cleaning your pet’s ears with EpiOtic. STEP 1: Hold the ear flap and lift it into a vertical position. STEP 2: Apply EpiOtic ear cleaner liberally into the ear c...anal to enable a flushing action. STEP 3: Without letting go of the ear flap, gently massage the base of the ear, downward and inward in order to disperse EpiOtic throughout the ear canal for 1 minute. Then allow your dog to shake its head. TIP: Be gentle when massaging the ear canal as the presence of an ear infection may be painful for your pet. STEP 4: Remove the excess fluid and debris with a ball of cotton wool or tissue. Also ensure to clean the inside of the ear flap and in between all the grooves to remove any debris. It is important not to use cotton buds as a poking action can cause damage and push wax further down the ear canal. STEP 5: Repeat steps 1 to 4 until the excess fluid no longer looks dirty. STEP 6: Repeat steps 1 to 5 to clean the other ear. TIP: To avoid any mess, clean the ears outdoors where your pet can shake their head to remove any excess liquid.

16.01.2022 Did you know that as animals age, they find it more difficult to groom. This is normally a result of stiff and arthritic joints due to age and thereofr they can no longer reach around to groom the areas they used to. To help them out, its a good idea to groom them with a soft brush more often.

10.01.2022 Have you recently welcomed a pup into your family? Here is a great tip to make future nail trims a breeze! Play with your puppies footsies When your pup is settled, gently hold their paws, while giving them small treats, and vocal reassurance. If they start to bite or play with your hands or even pull away, use more distractions and tastier treats. Do this often, but only for short periods of time. The goal with this exercise is to make times when their feet are being handled a fun and relaxing time.

07.01.2022 Are you familiar with the signs of tick poisoning? If you live in an area where ticks are found, it's a good idea to get to know the common signs. Vomiting, lethargy, weak back legs, change in voice or inappetence can be some of the first signs. If you suspect your pet has a tick, please call the vet immediately #gordonvet #tick

07.01.2022 As we finally bid 2020 an enthusiastic farewell, keep in mind that there could be fireworks many places across Sydney tonight, so if your pet is fearful of the noise or perhaps has not experienced fireworks before, it’s a good idea to give them a safe quiet place to hide if you aren’t going to be home with them. You can also give them treats and toys to distract them, or make them an ice block by adding some of their favorite food or treats into some water and popping it in the freezer.

06.01.2022 We love bringing you happy wholesome stories on our social media pages, because we want to spread cheer and photos of beautiful doggos and catins, but sometimes we see some very sad things happen and we need to let you know so that we can try to stop it from ever happening again. We have seen a vast increase in the number of paralysis tick poisoning cases this year, this is possibly because of the wet weather but we can’t really be sure. Sadly some of those cases have ended i...n the animals passing away. The four ticks pictured below are not only some of the biggest we have ever seen, but they all came off the same dog. The dog’s family had just moved to the area and where simply not aware of paralysis ticks and how deadly they can be. Ticks can kill an animal within hours, but it is preventable. Tick prevention is available at most vet hospitals and pet shops. It is available in top spots, chews and collars. Take it from us, the cost of prevention is worth every penny. If you know anyone who has, or who will be moving into the area and they have pets, please let them know about paralysis ticks and the dangers they pose and that prevention is available. Spreading the word could help save lives See more

06.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING LEPTOSPIROSIS Please be advised that there had been a confirmed case of Leptospirosis on the lower north shore. It is advisable that any dogs living within a 5km radius of Artarmon, or who frequent those areas, are vaccinated against the bacterial disease as soon as possible. Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease of humans and animals. It is caused by leptospira bacteria that are found in infected animal urine and animal tissues. Leptospirosis is not covered by general the annual vaccination, so a separate vaccine is necessary. One initial vaccination and then a booster 4 weeks later.

05.01.2022 Can you guess what species these little babies are?

05.01.2022 We hope everyone is managing to stay warm and dry this weekend

05.01.2022 Henry’s glow up! In November 2019, a very small, stray kitten was handed in to Gordon Vet. This little bundle was barely a week old and weighing only 165 grams when he was found all alone in a construction site by some builders. He was very hungry, cold and a had a sore eye. After a check over from one of our vets, the nurses were given the option of hand raising this little kitten to see if he would make it with some ongoing intensive care. Nurse Laura and Nurse Janie both t...ook on the role of cat mum with round the clock feeding toileting and care. After many long nights and vet visits, and a surgery by Dr Imogene to fix his eye, nurse Janie experienced what is commonly know as a ‘foster fail’ and fell head over heels for this tiny ball of fluff and so he was warmly welcomed into her family. Now named Henry, he’s bigger and stronger than ever before! See more
