25.01.2022 Presidents Report Round 13 Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s report. Firstly, my apologises for this report not being in your hands sooner however as mo...st of you would know I have been a little preoccupied over the last few days coordinating the Leagues final decision on our 2020 season. I can share with you all that this has been an emotional journey in many ways for me and none more than carrying the knowledge of these unprecedented community issues, whilst equally knowing the impact any decision would have on you all. Notwithstanding this I have tried to be transparent throughout the process. To formally declare our hand last night fundamentally gutted me that our 2020 season had unfolded this way but we all must take comfort that the ultimate decision to abandon Senior Football and Netball was fundamentally about doing what was right and not necessarily doing what was popular. I fully understand and appreciate that many of you are craving to pull on the boots, pass a netball or simply hang out with your mates and this element of community sport has always resonated with me and challenged me since inception many weeks ago. I equally share and wear that pain and disappointment whether you know it or not. The reality as I said in my press release, we could not return to a business as usual status without significant changes and compliance measures imposed on our volunteer organizations. I could not sit here as your President and ask volunteers to meet those requirements and nor could I support a decision which potentially placed an unwarranted financial risk or burden on clubs. Our attention firmly moves to the junior elements of our league and we will undertake the same due diligence measures in assessing the viability or otherwise in this space. What I can tell you is we will make some formal announcements within the 7 days. Many of you have heard me talk about the G25 Football review which has been running in parallel to the subject matter of COVID19. The recommendations from that review were announced during the week with the NGFNL structures to remain unchanged in season 2021. Having said that our Board intends to continue exploring ideas and initiatives we have had on the back burner and now the door for us to reconsider these ideas so again stay tuned. What was significant in the G25 recommendations and of interest to some of you would be the amalgamation of the Alberton FNL and the Mid Gippsland Football League in 2021 bring that competition to 15 teams should there be no further movement between now and then. The second major recommendation was for the Western FNL and the Ellinbank FNC to form a divisional structure by 2025. This fundamentally means divisional football can try and match up clubs of equal skill and generally means a regelation and promotional aspect being available on a yearly basis. I again want to take an opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us work through the last 12/ 14 weeks. Your support and input have been invaluable in my eyes. To all our Volunteers and club patrons I hope you can stay engaged with your club and we look forward to seeing you around the NGFNL Brand in 2021. Where possible please support club sponsors and local business. It has been extremely hard for the majority of businesses in and around our back yard. As a business owner myself I can assure you ever little bit of support helps but I am equally confident those businesses will support us again somewhere down the road, and hopefully it will be business as usual in 2021. Have a great weekend, keep smiling and I will touch base again next week. David dirty Kyle President
24.01.2022 NETTY NEWS We are thrilled to announce Coop as the new U15’s Netball Coach Coop has been a well known face around the club for 20yrs, playing A Grade and also winning a Premiership. She took a few years off for travel and for Charlie. (And to rest her ongoing calf injury torn at least 65479940 times) ... She has been coaching the Tiger Cubs in town for the past 4 years. We look forward to Coops’ team development and advance through the upcoming season.
24.01.2022 FROM THE COACH We are pleased to announce the re-signing of Ryan Burns. Ryan has been a member of the NGFL team of the year, he has also won our 2019 BNF. His ability to win his own ball and courage will be a great asset. We look forward to seeing Ryan play more of a midfield role this year.... Cheers Early See more
23.01.2022 Hi all, just a quick update on our ground- The Gormandale football oval will be cut and baled very shortly. Due to the circumstances of not playing this year and the lockdown, we took the opportunity to grow the grass a bit longer for hay silage this year. This does no harm to the oval at all and provides our volunteer group the opportunity to raise some much needed funds for the community in these testing times. We can’t wait to have our ground looking in top condition again and look forward to a successful season out at tiger land.
23.01.2022 FROM THE PRES To all our players, coaches, volunteers, committee members, members and supporters, we regretfully announce the cancellation of the 2020 season for senior football and netball. I personally apologise for not getting something out on here earlier but after our extraordinary league meeting last night I was on the phone to coaches, executives etc late into the night and again today. ... When I took over the reins last year as president their was a mountain of work to be done to get this club back to where it needed to be. With the help of the recruiting committees (both football & netball) and the executive and general committees, we were lucky enough to appoint two great coaches in Daniel Earl and Kristie Smith. What they have been able to do in a small amount time in such unfortunate circumstances is nothing short of incredible. I am extremely disappointed for them that they don’t get the opportunity to showcase their new players and new exciting styles of play. We will get the opportunity to do that next year and I cannot wait! I am also very disappointed for our players, both old and new, who put in so much hard work from November until last Thursday (8 months). Your commitment and dedication is outstanding and we will no doubt be a force over the coming years because of it. We still have the opportunity to play U18s football and U15s & U17s netball this season but a lot of boxes will need to be ticked over the coming days for it to be a possibility. There will be consultations with our fellow clubs and the league and we will let everyone know when there is a result. On a personal level, I’m pretty guttered about the whole saga. When I took over I had visions to implement plans and structures to not only start our mercurial rise back to the top of the ladder but just as importantly, see everyone enjoying themselves and wanting to be back and part of a fantastic club. One way to look at it is that it just means we have to wait another 6 months to show everyone how far we have come. In the meantime, while we can, lets recharge the batteries and come back bigger and hungrier than ever in 2021! Go tiges Your president, Adam Talbot.
23.01.2022 Presidents Report Round 6 Hello everyone and welcome to my weekly report. The lousy weather last weekend made me think about some of the tough days we endure pl...aying football, netball, and umpiring. It also made me think about our club volunteers, and in particular our clubs gate keepers. Cold wet wintery days are tough for everyone but especially gate keepers who are the public face of our clubs and who brave the elements to welcome us all to their respective facilities. I have come to know most of these people over the years and I speak with confidence when I say they are all solid citizens with a responsibility to their club second to none. At least last week they were hopefully significantly dryer and warmer than otherwise would have been the case. Notwithstanding this I suspect they would have welcomed the opportunity to be selling you a raffle ticket or greeting you at the front gate knowing some normality had returned to our local and sporting community!! Last week I happened to mention to one of your Board members that I was running out of ideas to fill this column. For those who know me well, and who occasionally call me Mr Have a Chat then they would probably find that hard to believe. Now that I find myself in the later part of the week I realise I probably threw that comment out a little prematurely because as the week has passed the momentum for thoughts and news has gathered. Anyway one of my fellow NGFNL Directors suggested I should call upon our clubs for input, so I have decided to dedicate and share some of this weekly report with 5 clubs and will follow up next week with the remaining 5 clubs in an effort to show you all our sporting community spirit is alive & vibrant. COVID19 will not stop us but has afforded us the opportunity to bond and strengthen relationships which ultimately gives me confidence that despite any challenge, our future is bright and in good hands. Let me firstly say the connective abilities and power of social media has been a common thread and tool, not only for those clubs whom I will talk about today, but I equally suspect those clubs who I will talk about next week. Although I am not a face book, Instagram, tik tok or twitter subscriber, user or follower, nor am I ignorant of the benefits these mediums can have for those who choose to engage. That being said, my wife is all over this stuff, and occasionally I get some commentary in that space. In fact, I often say she is addicted which usually heads me into troubled waters which often exposes me for reply comments such as how useless I am at washing the dishes or vacuuming the floors or making the bed. In fact whilst I am on the subject of making beds it has never made sense to me why anyone would make the bed and then place 50 cushions on it when at the end of the day you just pick them up again and put them back on the floor where they came from. This logic has always left me scratching my head particularly when I think who is going to see this? Putting cushions on your bed is not part of my DNA!! It’s a bit like building bench seating in change rooms and then people seem to think it is a pace to sit your bag or spending $3.50 on a bottle of water when you could go to the tap and get it for free, these things have always made me wonder WHY? Hmmm I am probably in trouble for saying these thingsI will have to blame this moment of madness on COVID19 and ISO!!! Any way back to my original pointWhat is happening around our clubs. Out at the beloved home of the Saints they have not been idle despite the challenges of COVID19. Several clubs have major milestones in season 2020 and at Cowwarr it is their 125th year of history which they were hoping to celebrate with gusto this year. Whilst the planning has not totally stopped, we are all nervous whether we will have the opportunity to do justice to this milestone in the 2020 season. I for one would have liked to raise a glass and salute all past and present legends of the WARR who have fought hard to keep this small country community club together and build it into what we see today. For now, I will just give everyone the thumbs up for a job well done. Other activity continuing around club will see Nets behind the goal posts and a new electronic score available in due course. Sale City have been extremely active on all social media platforms keeping players, committee and club sponsors fully engaged. I have been told there was a special effort made for Anzac Day and I salute the bulldogs accordingly. Their 50th year anniversary also falls in season 2020 and is scheduled to be celebrated at the kennel. Significant planning has gone into this milestone and club event and again a well-deserved accolade and achievement. New President at the kennel Mick Clapton has endured a baptism of fire since stepping into the role but I know he has significant leadership and management skills to capably handle the challenges at hand. Maybe COVID19 will hand him a season without games being played in his first year as Pres but that does not mean planning, paperwork and many negotiations do not still happen behind the scenes. I wish Mick and all the crew in bulldog land the very best and let’s hope we get to see that new score in action soon. In Cougar land lead by 10 year plus President Mick Johnson the activity has been robust and ongoing. Like all clubs they have invested significant time into the critical topic of budgeting and planning, creating a number of scenarios depending on how the season unfolds. Strategic thinking and preparation for the unknown cannot be underestimated in any organization and I am pleased to see this at the Cougars and no doubt other clubs have been addressing this issue and following the Cougars lead in this space. Cougar Keno remains alive and well all communicated via electronic mediums, New lights around the netball courts are progressing, Solar panels are planned with this concept coming to life and delivering benefits in the near future. Like many other clubs the 130-year anniversary of the club is 2020. The Cougars have contracted work out to produce a painting of club’s legends similar to others I have seen around a few clubs. A brilliant concept and idea which I know will become a club treasure both now and well into the future. Down at the Cattery Mrs Foat tells me she is not missing the task of washing the clubs football jumpers and I suspect there are a few club volunteers fist pumping the air right now saying similar things. I wonder if she buys a $15kg bag of laundry powder from Brentcorp to do that job hmmmm I must follow that up, then again, maybe a good sponsor could offer that as part of a deal? You must admire and have to love those volunteers who take on the behind the scene roll to wash club jumpers. All I can say is a double thumbs up to those club people. Despite the usual face book and social medium platforms being eagerly used for player engagement I found a couple of interesting things the crew from Woodside have been undertaking. As a communication and learning exercise several coaches created and requested their players to complete a getting to know you better questionnaire. What a great simple idea to learn more as a coach. Often, we are all happy to divulge information about ourselves, but I guess if you never ask then you are highly unlikely to get an answer. Well as frustrated as we are about COVID19 this has been one opportunity and one benefit with a clear outcome delivered down at the Cattery. Dan Missen has always been a vibrant and engaging character willing to get in and lend a hand. I was lucky enough to experience this firsthand when Dan agreed to help coach the leagues under 18 Interleague team for the last few years. He did a magnificent job mentoring these young men with the highest values and regard for all. Anyway, Dan has been fund raising for the club with his project the Den where he livestreams via face book a weekly draw for a select group of club supporters. I have no doubt he has been having a bit of fun with that project and hopefully he a has brought a chuckle or two the faces of whilst doing so. Unfortunately, I have not had any info or comment provided from the crew at Tiger land so I cannot report a lot. Notwithstanding this I will chase up for next week. Finally, I was asked to provide commentary to Netball Vic during the week about the season and the pending impact or issues to our league due to COVID19. I am not entirely sure where any of this commentary may surface or whether any of it will at all. I will revisit this subject in perhaps next week’s report. Next week I will take some to time to share some thoughts on club membership, Salary caps and some info on those clubs not mentioned today In the meantime, stay safe, keep well and look after all your loved ones. Happy Mothers Day to all the mums out there this Sunday. Have a great weekend and speak soon David dirty Kyle President See more

19.01.2022 Presidents Report Round 7 Hello everyone and welcome to my weekly report. Oh boy it’s has been a cold week in my house hold, I will never mention those dammed p...illows again!! With that being said, I hope all the mums had good day last Sunday and that we all found a way to touch base with our respective mothers and mother in laws etc. Moving on I wanted to talk about a topic which I have had strong views about for many years club membership. Have you ever thought about why the big boys such as Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton and alike focus on this aspect of their business? The answer in my mind is as simply as it is complex. People want to feel part of something, they want to be part of brand that makes them feels good, proud and passionate. They crave to become part of that tribe, which enables them to feel the pain and celebrate the victories. It seems to me people will find they money when they feel this engagement. As small country community clubs run by volunteers you might say there are many other things to focus on to make your club successful and I agree there are, however the smart clubs, the visionary clubs also invest significant time and money into growing membership. Look at the AFL, where during COVID19 a significant portion of members have made a conscious and emotional decision to leave their memberships intact, seeking no refund or prorate reimbursement so that their club can have a chance of survival. The impact of these member decisions means income streams can be relied upon no matter what challenge is brought before them. I have heard of stories where some members have even decided to increase their membership packages and/or made additional donations because of the love for their club. In other words, the tribe needs their support and they are willingly offering it. For those who have been around a while we can all remember the emotion around AFL proposed mergers and club financial struggles. The Hawks, Dee’s, Bulldogs, Saints and Roo’s to name a few. They all survived, and they all found strength and solace from building a strong and more resilient club membership base which has become the foundation from which they leverage season to season and into the future. Can you imagine the comfort and position of strength a 100,000 strong club membership base provide those clubs who have or are nearing that number? COVID19 is a situational crisis most of us did not perceive, envisage and I suspect many definitely would not have prepared for. Notwithstanding this, let me propose something, what if your club had a membership base of 500 (excluding players) paying $50 for that membership. In simple terms that would equate to $25,000 of income which you could lock into your budget and I also think it is fair to say that this would be income you are not currently not generating now. I understand to achieve this you would need to find an audience who feel passionate about your club and individual Brand. Which poses the question where and how do I find this audience? I have every confidence these people exist and that they are out there somewhere just waiting for your club to do the work to pitch them an offer about who you are, what you stand for and where your club is headed moving forward. In this regard and in an effort to provide you some thought starters to find these numbers my mind drifts quite easily to things such as the following: Do you have a past players audience still involved in your club? What about a Past Premiers Club, past and present Coaches group/Hall of fame Think about Netball specific ideas be part of the The wild Net or Shooters gang Do you have and can you increase an influential coterie group to help influence numbers in this space. Engage others of influence Could you create a 3 game membership for those who no longer live locally, or an interstate membership, hell take their money and send them a scarf to hang on the bed or a stubbie holder to keep the memory of your club alive and in the forefront of their mind Do you have a grey army or Grandparent membership offer? Do you have an affiliated sponsor membership to the employees of your sponsors? Do you have cross seasonal membership within your towns such cricket, tennis, soccer, swimming or the fishing club? Do you have a kids membership or programme such as baby bombers cute cougars baby blues or the cattery kittens? Do you have a boyfriend, girlfriend or partner membership? Student specific membership! Anyway, you get my point. Hell, I could bang on about this subject for hours, but I will leave you with one more thought. When it comes to our final series or Grand final day and I ask all competing teams to rally their tribe and get them to the Grand Final to support of your club or team can you think how many more additional people might attend our Finals? For every additional person attending clearly the league’s income would increase and that ultimately means your club benefits yet again because with greater income and attendance the greater ability the league has to reduce club fees in future years, let alone any marketing opportunity I can think of which may come from that concept!! Last week I mentioned I would review a few more clubs and with the limited information I have to hand I share the following. The Tigers have not been idle and whilst they are firmly focused on what may transpire in 2020 season the have been working diligently with coaches and playing group to equally think about 2021 and beyond. Key roles are being locked down with many coaches being prepared to sign on in futures years. The playing group in both football and netball are champing at the bit to get the season underway but are equally understanding and appreciative that to a degree the NGFNL hands are tied until we get the green light. The club has been conducting some fund-raising activities and the club believe they are in pretty good shape and just waiting to show improvement with their on field performance’s. The Magpies have equally been active in all social media elements and like the Tigers they are keen to get the season underway if possible. One very interesting point which perhaps ties into my earlier rant is the prestige they place on their number one ticket holder and for those who may not know Tim Membrey who is a current day player at St Kilda FC holds humbly holds that ticket. The Membrey name and family are synonymous within the Glengarry club and needs no introduction to those close to Glengarry or to anyone who has been floating around the league for a while. Early in the season Tim produced a facebook message for all and sundry at the club encouraging everyone to adhere to medical advice, maintain their support for the Glengarry FNC and pleading with all and sundry to take care and look after their family and friends. There is no doubt a piece of Tim and many of his childhood memories exist in and around Glengarry and it is nice to see he has not forgotten his roots. Hopefully when time permits, he will return home for the odd visit or at a minimum find time to have a half time cup of tea with Grandpa Don. In the meantime, we equally wish Tim the very best for season 2020 in the AFL ranks. Rosedale have also been quite active and to say they are keen is an understatement. Kath is in her second year as President and she is thriving in this role and gaining confidence in her abilities as each week passes. The Blues have also been quite active on all social media fronts with some challenges put out to their Football and Netball playing group to post some funny action shots, goal kicking tricks or an outside interest which they passionately participate in. This has been a novel idea to perhaps get a laugh, watch with inspiration or get to know your team mate better through things they do outside of the club. Great idea I like that one. The Blues have still been fund raising and also feel they are in good shape should the season get underway. A few weeks ago, I mentioned the TTU bombers were leaving their lights for the community to come down and exercise. Well as indicated I have been cutting a few laps under lights with my good wife to avail of this opportunity and I have met a few locals in doing so. One night my lap count was reduced because I started talking to Tim Aitkin (yep MR have a chat) was out and about..anyway Tim mentioned the work the club was doing with their baby bomber concept. Again this ties in nicely to my membership rant but it is amazing what a pencil case, a few texta’s, a book or two and something bomber related item for them to keep makes however more importantly the kids love it, and it is a fun thing for them do whilst at the same time they feel engaged and part of the club. Fantastic work again TTU you have set a standard for others to follow. Double thumbs up from uncle Dirt WOW for a bloke who did not have much to write about I have again stretched into a multiple page report, so it is definitely time for me to say farewell for this week. I will get onto the subject of salary caps next week. In the meantime, stay safe, keep well and look after all your loved ones. Have a great weekend and speak soon David dirty Kyle President

17.01.2022 SEASON 21 DRAW
15.01.2022 Presidents Report Round 9 Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s report. Well the public arena and all the associated commentary continues to be dominated wi...th the question will the NGFNL abandon season 2020? This issue continues to be ignited on the back of several other leagues in Victoria formally announcing their intentions to do exactly that, meaning they have abandoned season 2020. Last week I wrote about what our league was doing and at what stage we were at in the process whilst assessing every aspect for both our clubs and league so that we could make a justified decision. I truly understand that some people may be frustrated that a quick decision cannot just be made but I urge you to put yourself at the Board table and think about the gravity and complexity of this subject. We are in uncharted waters. Yes, on one hand we could just make a decision and get it over and done with but on the other we grapple with the concept and unique situation before us. Football and Netball is part of our cultural landscape and the benefits that come from playing are significant in so many ways. Therefore are we prepared to spontaneously throw this away without a fight or applying the necessary fiduciary duties your Board holds to explore every option, every issue and every benefit before making a recommendation to our member clubs. If there was a possibility that we could run a viable shortened season which was not financially detrimental to our clubs and league would you not want us to hang tough and deliver such an outcome when others have put the que in the rack? I suspect the answer is probably yes but as I have said I can equally understand if the band aid needs to come off then let’s just get it done. I again ask that you allow your Board and clubs the necessary time to do our job and deliver the best possible outcome for everyone. With that being said, I promise you, we have an action plan and we will exercise that plan in a timely manner after exhausting and ensuring all due diligence has been completed in order to formulate a recommendation and delivery a verdict in the best interests of the NGFNL. May I remind you, we do all of this as volunteers who also love football and netball. To conclude the topic of season abandonment I should also say that during the week all League Presidents received email commentary from AFL Gippsland Regional Manager Richard Black reinforcing that any decision made around the continuance or abandonment of season 2020 would be a league driven process and that AFL Gippsland would not be imposing any governance or directional request in this space. Richard reinforced his support for the NGFNL regardless of any decision and advised he would continue to feed us any new information to assist us with that decision making process. This week has been another busy week within the league as we were asked to provide some comment to the Gippsland Times about the pending G25 Football review and its subsequent recommendations. As all clubs would know I have spoken to them directly about this topic and with some clubs in greater detail. I have recommended all clubs take the opportunity to provide feedback and table their respective views on that subject matter. Yes, the NGFNL Board has some concerns about that document and some of the subsequent recommendations. This weekly report is perhaps not the best forum for outlining in detail every issue we have but it is fair to say we feel strongly that District Leagues such as the NGFNL will potentially see several proposed changes if those recommendations are adopted but the Gippsland Latrobe League remains untouched when I thought the G25 review had a mandate otherwise. How can these recommendations which are supposedly designed to address the issues within Gippsland Football be equitable and responsible when the Gippsland Latrobe league is not aligned or what some might argue appear to be preference in comparison to others? Is there an agenda the rest of Gippsland Football is not privy too which is driving these recommendations to leave the Gippsland Latrobe league untouched? Don’t get me wrong, I understand the growth of Football in Gippsland has some issues but should we not all share the pain of the proposed recovery path so that we equally gain the benefit? The NGFNL Board feels strongly that the recommendation to move to our under 18 competition to an under17 competition in 2021 is fundamentally detrimental forcing young men into senior competitions or potentially out of the game by adopting a recommendation of this nature. The current day impact of COVID 19 only exacerbates the issues at hand and as I speak not one game has been played in 2020. At a minimum I would argue the deferral of this recommendation so that further discussion consideration and alignment can be achieved for all leagues. I guess what I can say is the NGFNL is a self-administered and self-governed league and therefore we have some powers to implement and adopt policy which is in our best interests should we need to. I would rather pursue a pathway of mutual compromise and unity however should this not happen then I guess you will need to watch this space. I was also contacted during the week by Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath about the impact and recovery of COVIOD19 with the NGFNL albeit I probably responded in a tone and sentiment encompassing all community sporting clubs. As many of you would know from reading this report I am never short of a word or two however this invitation afforded me the opportunity to table some detail about our league, the business impacts within the NGFNL Brand, the humanity and community issues confronting us. It equally afforded our Brand the opportunity to offer some suggestions and ideas of where assistance, financial or otherwise could be directed to community sporting organizations. Should any of my commentary or ideas be considered or elevated then I will share any response accordingly with you all. So again, watch this space. Well that’s enough for you to absorb this week with some meaty topics which I am sure will raise some eyebrows. In the meantime stay in touch with your loved ones, hug those near and dear and keep a smile on your dial. Have a great weekend. Speak soon David dirty Kyle President
15.01.2022 Presidents Report Round 8 Hello everyone and welcome to my weekly report. Oh boy the phone and email trail has been running hot this week with a multitude of qu...estions and enquiries when I was thinking to myself, I would have an opportunity to stop writing these presidential novels and provide you all a brief report . First things first. As many of you are aware AFL Gippsland released a return to training policy for all affiliated clubs and Netball Vic I think did likewise. In some respects this policy was enlightening but the flip side revealed some very specific demands and perhaps posed more questions than answers. The one question on everyone’s lips has been if we are returning to training then when will we be returning to playing? I wish I had a one-word answer for you all but given the weight of questioning and my desire to be transparent with you all I will share the following: Our league conducted a Board meeting Wednesday night and this topic was discussed at length. As your Board, we are mindful of many things none more than the health and safety of our players, supporters and volunteers. We are equally mindful of not placing our clubs in a position of compromise should they ever feel pressured into completing a reduced season where perhaps there is simply not enough time to realise the income streams sufficient to meet their respective expenditure and liabilities. Our Board stands united in protecting this aspect of our league and all members clubs. The issues around both income and expenditure are mixed and in some cases a level of complexity exists however we believe it is quite clear sponsorship income will be adversely impacted, minimal home games does not help budgeting, social distancing policy impacts fundraising activities and yet expenses such as player payments, insurance, medical supplies and umpires all require negotiation and attention let alone any additional costs for managing COVID19 compliance. Yes, there is a lot to digest and I have only touched on some basic’s above. From a league perspective it seems we are long way from our State Government, medical authorities and host of other compliance bodies from granting us approval for mass gatherings at home and away games, let alone a finals series and even more importantly 5000 at a Grand Final. It is our Boards intention to get our clubs together and speak in greater detail about all these topics which I have in my head and our formal data base. We will do so as soon as practical, meaning within 7-14 days to ensure we are compliant with league bi-laws etc and hope thereafter any outcome or decisions in this space can be openly communicated and will be seen as a league who is trying to lead the discussion and potentially the outcome which is practical and perhaps for others to follow. That being said, please grant us the time for all these formalities to be actioned and as always, I will keep you informed and be as transparent as possible. Last week I indicated I wanted to talk about what many people call league Salary caps however the official term revolves around club sustainability policy. In short it would appear the NGFNL salary cap will reduce in 2021 and on the surface this seems a practical decision given I equally expect it will be difficult for clubs to raise monies in 2021 due to the hangover or continuance of COVID19. That being said, this territory is a little unknown. Notwithstanding this our clubs need to be mindful of this concept when signing players for the 2021 season to ensure they are not extending themselves outside of this concept. I might have to go back and re read a recent AFL Gippsland email to get my facts right but I have in my mind the intention is to reduce the NGFNL salary cap by $30,000 in 2021. Like I said on the surface as a concept this seems a prudent exercise but I suspect one size may not fit all and some clubs who have small communities to draw playing resources from simply rely on being able to recruit from outside the local community and therefore need reasonable salary cap budgets to attract players and coaches. Policy does exist for clubs to seek increase outside of any formal number with any approval coming via the AFL Gippsland office and not that of the NGFNL Board. Last week it was highlighted to me long term Director Geoff Cooper made his 262nd blood donation and this got me to thinking about the NGFNL. It seems we quickly rally to annual events such as Pride cups, inter club rivalry matches such as the Lang/Onley cup between Gormandale and Glengarry or the Holland/Koman cup between Cowwarr and Heyfield then why could we not have a challenge between clubs for the very worthy cause of Blood donation? Now I am not going to formalise anything here however I do quite openly and purposefully throw the challenge out there to all our Club Presidents to pick up the phone and ring a neighbouring club who would normally play one of these highlight games and accept the challenge of having a crack with this concept and is doing so would be helping a very worthy cause because we all know they could use our help. This might not be appropriate but maybe I could come up with an award for the NGFNL Vampire Club of the month or year..like I said maybe that wording is a little inappropriate and I will keep my thinking hat on in that space for perhaps something more appropriate. To spur you along I have a little picture of inspiration for you all to get the ball rolling and look forward to hearing about clubs that take up the challenge. In the meantime, stay safe and keep well. Have a great weekend and speak soon David dirty Kyle President

14.01.2022 Round 4 Welcome to my weekly report. I trust you have all had a reasonable week and at a minimum I hope you have had a few laughs and been considerate of those ...around you. It is sometimes difficult to understand but I guess we all have various degrees of concern and frustration during this COVID19 journey. I was going to finish with this point but thought the relevance deserved elevation to top of the list. To those who work or have loved ones who work in any essential work domain then they deserve our praise and admiration. It is not now nor has it ever been an easy gig working in the medical field, protective services or broader public space no matter the role an individual beholds. By definition essential means we simply cannot function without you and within the landscape of that definition broadly covers many occupations. I hope and trust we can all take a moment to think about these people, respect the roles they are playing within our various communities. Hopefully in due course we can thank them for a job well done during these difficult times. In short, I salute them all. As I keep saying and will keep saying, COVID19 will end, we will return to doing the things we love and hopefully with everyone and everything intact. I am confident we will emerge stronger and I am hopeful we will better and stronger for the experience. Today is Anzac Day. Personally, I probably look forward to this day more than any other on the calendar. I do so because it affords me the time to remember those who have walked before me and allocates some time for me think about the sacrifice’s others have made for all Australians. Having said that, I can equally understand some amongst us may subscribe to the fact we invaded someone else’s country and perhaps we should be ashamed of those actions and consequences. However, I can only share my story and from that perspective I have not shared the following sentiment publicly before. Michelle and I were fortunate enough to visit Anzac Cove, Lone Pine and the surrounding battle area in 2015 on the 100th Anniversary year of the Anzac landing. It is difficult for me to put into the words the overwhelming emotion that comes over you when walking on that soil, the visualization you have of the bloodied landscape and waters, a silent noise in your head of what must have been going on around you and the reality that death and human tragedy happened directly below your feet. Lest we forget becomes significantly more powerful and painful because of that experience. At Anzac cove and surrounds there are some amazing visual scenes, grave sites of young men and women, some incredible monuments with words that would make any tough man cry yet comfort a mother who’s loved one’s life was lost on this soil. They are somehow at peace and at home. Proud, humbling, emotional and saddened are a few words which come to mind when I think about the human life that was lost no matter the nationality. And yet, sadly, this is just one of many conflict sites around the globe, which makes me wonder from time to time have any of us learnt anything from history. Equally the Turks are a humble and proud nation. They remember and they equally mourn these events. It was clear for me to see during this trip how they embrace the significance and importance of educating their future generations of this tragic conflict. Turkey suffered significant casualties in their 1000’s and unfortunately this specific conflict is only one of many this country has had to endure throughout their evolution. Regardless of any formal gathering or ceremony tomorrow I encourage you all to take a moment to remember and thank all past and present who have served our Country. Do that and you will have my respect and acknowledgement for we are all Australian. Changing tact, I bumped into Nathan from Pazzaz Printing who publish our Tagger record and he is well prepared to push the go button on production should this be required at short notice. This got me thinking, have our clubs appointed a Tagger scribe and do they or will they need some training to write your club notes insert these into the template provided by Pazzaz. I think most clubs would well prepared in this space but if not please let our Administration know so that we can schedule any help required. Maybe even just tell us who your tagger scribe will be for season 2020. Regretfully in January 2020 league Life Member Lionel Harris passed away. I knew Lionel well and was fortunate enough to serve with him for a few years in my early days of being on the NGFNL Board. I often joked with Lionel that it was him who encouraged me to seek the Presidents role or maybe he pushed me I am not sure. His unique, quite and unassuming nature was endearing to all who came to know him. Many of you may not know that he was the inspiration behind the league newsletter and engaged the services of Gordon Bayley to come up with the tagger name. Fundamentally it was Lionel’s brainchild and many leagues followed suit thereafter given the success of that publication in the NGFNL. Lionel was a proud ambassador of the NGFNL, Life member of the Rosedale FNC and eventually went on to be a NGFNL life member. Public promotion of the NGFNL, exquisite administration skills and the continued advancement of the NGFNL were some of his passions and skills. His thumbprint is everywhere within our Brand. To those more senior people around the league they would remember Lionel and his work. Many would know that his contribution continues to live on in who we are today. RIP Lionel Harris Last week our Board held our first virtual board meeting. When our league’s constitution or bi-laws were first written I doubt anyone writing those documents would have thought to include clauses about virtual meetings and the various technology enhancements we take for granted today. In 2019 the Board started working on re-writing some bi-laws which allowed for technology issues and enhancements to be covered. For example, written documents mailed and signed versus emailed and scanned. Nor did we think Virtual meetings would be something we may have to consider including into our bi-laws and my point is legally and by definition I am not sure our virtual Board can in fact be called a formal Board meeting. Anyway, it happened, the agenda was actioned, budgets reviewed and minutes taken. This week I have been in touch with Richard Black, Regional Manager of AFL Gippsland and he has also been working on some projects behind the scenes. Next week we will all be invited to attend some club webinars and information sessions on various topics. It is my understanding the League Presidents will also be involved in some additional discussions around salary caps, sporting pulse and area agreements with the view of how will we proceed should a shortened season get underway. Richard has a tough job and his ability to get around a meet our clubs has been hampered and implicated because of COVID19. Notwithstanding that, I have found Richard to be highly intellectual and extremely knowledgeable on community sports administration. Whilst he may appear a bit of a no fuss man, he deserves our support during these changing times. To work in isolation and fundamentally head up AFL Gippsland would not be anything I aspire to take on so instead I will give him my support to get through 2020 and focus on bigger and better things in 2021. Well as usual stay safe, keep well and I look forward to catching up with you all around the traps shortly. Have a great weekend and speak soon David dirty Kyle President
13.01.2022 Presidents Report Round 12 Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s report from the President’s desk. I am sneaking this report in during work hours so please ...don’t tell the boss I might get in trouble!! Let me start by revisiting a topic which some of you may be sick of hearing me talk about but the reality is I cannot think of a more prudent or important topic to highlight given what is the most unique and challenging time many of us will ever experience. Think about it, what we are experiencing and going through has never happened my lifetime and may never happen again that’s how unique 2020 for most of us. My question to you all is, have you bothered to check in with your mates and have you asked if they okay, have asked how are you going mate? When you finish reading this report pick up the phone and ring someone or text someone who you have not spoken to recently ask these questions, you might be very surprised with the response you get. Go on, don’t be shy just do it I bet you a frothy you will not be disappointed and pleased you made the effort. Whilst talking about topics I raised in previous reports has anyone made the commitment to be a new blood donor? Has any club accepted the challenge to start a donor challenge for what I know is very good cause and most likely something that could and will save lives? Well I am going to make you all an offer and maybe some of my fellow Board members will join me tooI am looking to be on someone’s team in this challenge but before I commit I need know I am competing against another NGFNL club for bragging rights within this quest and I might even try and rally a few extra troops. So, who’s in? Lets get cracking and do something good, let’s stop procrastinating, let’s get a couple if not all clubs engaged in this little side initiative and challenge others to a Blood Bank Tally. If you are keen to have me on your team then give me a call (0438 749 322). Let’s get your club and the leagues Brand on the front page of the paper for what is a bloody good cause. Hmmm second week in a row for a little cryptic humour!! Maybe even MR Cooper will be ready for another donation!! As indicated last week the league held a Special General meeting with all clubs and a few guests on Monday and whilst several topics were cover the bigger content was all about COVID19 and what should the NGFNL do with season 2020. This subject is somewhat complex, but it could equally be quite simple. I am probably disappointed any formal application of policy in this space is not from a united Football Netball front being the position of all leagues within Gippsland. I say this because is my fundamental belief all leagues and all clubs are affected by the same issues, the same inequities, the same funding and compliance responsibilities. I am disappointed our affiliated governing bodies have not been able to lead the charge and have not been able to unite all leagues accordingly. Whilst harsh I regretfully fear some may have put self-interest above that of what is good for the game. Don’t misunderstand me here, I know the depth of impact to not be playing sport is having on us all and within our communities for which we circulate, I understand the potential risk of losing players and volunteers to other social interests by taking an abandonment pathway, I understand the growth of the code is at risk in times when can least afford that to happen and I understand to do nothing is not a perfect or preferred answer. But what I don’t understand is why all leagues and all clubs can not be united in confronting and tackling these issues when it comes to the Gippsland region. That being said, our Board and myself personally find ourselves in a bit of a dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t position. But regardless of any commentary or any third party view our Board understands the importance of due process and the need to execute a predetermined strategy we defined and outlined many weeks ago ensuring all due diligence practices are appropriately, and nor do I shun away from any commentary otherwise. Notwithstanding that, and the multitude of challenges at hand, the bush telegraph is full of commentary, ideas and innuendo. What I can say is the NGFNL has a structured plan on how we desire to move forward and the next phase of that plan is to hear what our Government leaders and health authorities have to say and deliver on Sunday the 21st of June. Thereafter I am expecting some formal commentary and guidance from our Affiliated bodies which will enable the next steps to unfold. So please, stay patient and supportive of your club and league. Many of you may have seen some Government grants flowing into the marketplace for sporting clubs and organizations. The NGFNL administration has forwarded these details to all clubs and I encourage you to (if not already done) to investigate and attend to this task sooner than later. As a final point and one which I think is worth mentioning revolves around a club initiative I heard about. One club has purchasing some branded marketing merchandise and visiting all club sponsors, life members and significant others to say thanks for their ongoing support and dedication to their club regardless of whether monies has changed hands, or a commercial transaction undertaken. It is simply a gesture of gratitude and an investment in their relationship for past and future years. In my eyes that’s an impressive way to do business and food for thought for you all. Have a great weekend, keep smiling and I will touch base again next week. David dirty Kyle President See more
13.01.2022 PRE SEASON Great numbers tonight for the footballers first night back at pre-season training after a long lay off. Fantastic to see lots of new faces as well as familiar ones.... Season 2021 is shaping up to be a big one! Bigger. Better. Stronger. 2021.
12.01.2022 FROM THE PRES Hi all, I hope everyone is well and enjoying a bit more freedom from the restrictions being lifted. I wish we could give you some kind of information on what’s happening with the 2020 season but we still don’t know anything as of yet. As soon as we hear anything you will all be the first to know. ... The league will be holding a zoom meeting on the 15th of June with the NGFNL board and all club presidents so until then, we will all just have to sit tight. Even then we may not have a definitive answer! Training will resume tonight for both football and netball at Gormy and it is extremely important that we follow all strict protocols put in place. Sanitising before, during and after training and 1.5m social distancing whilst training is still in place and please, no spectators. If you have young children, please find alternative arrangements for them if you wish to train. All juniors who have parents driving them out must remain in their cars while training is in progress. We need everyone who attends training to fill in the attendance sheet for the football and junior players (both football and netball) and the attendance app for all senior netballers. The football and netball departments have been working hard behind the scenes and have done a fantastic job with organising training and keeping everyone motivated to this point. Great job everyone! It’s a crazy world we live in at the moment but for this to work we need everyone to comply. No exceptions. If someone can make this all disappear I will be eternally grateful! Your president, Adam Talbot.

05.01.2022 The Board of the NGFNL together with all member clubs have conducted extensive analysis and significant due diligence around the impacts of COVID19, and the ass...ociated return to play policies imposed by AFL Victoria. We understand and appreciate the time frames associated with this process may have caused some frustration, but we can unashamedly say, we have left no stone unturned in our decision-making process or in our desire to find a workable solution. Accordingly, the NGFNL will abandon Season 2020 for all Senior Football and Netball competitions. Our decision was influenced by many factors such as the recent COVID-19 announcements by the Premier of Victoria Mr Daniel Andrews, ongoing social distancing requirements, the threat of a secondary COVID-19 wave, increased volunteer workloads, compliance expectations and with the simple reality around player and patron numbers attending our venues and under what circumstances they can attend has ongoing limitations which will impact the commercial viability of community clubs. We could not justify or envisage a return to business as usual and nor are we prepared to risk the health and wellbeing of people nor club sustainability. Our Board and member clubs sincerely desire to thank all volunteers, club members, sponsors and significant others who make our Brand respected and have endured this journey with us. We have appreciated your patience, valued your support and trust you will all join us again in 2021 Finally, whilst we cannot proceed with a Senior competition, we will turn our attention on the junior aspects of our league and hope to deliver some opportunities for our young players who are the future of our respective Football and Netball competitions.
05.01.2022 NETTY NEWS We are thrilled to have Nada take on a coaching role this coming season. Nada having a family connection to the club her brother Rudi Bence. Nada brings so much experience to the club, including Level 2 Netball Victoria Developing Coach, C Grade Umpiring Badge and a Level 1 Sports Trainer. ... Nada has collected a bag of accolades in her more than 550 games, 17+ awards including a League B&F, representing Latrobe in State Netball and Country Week. She has also coached a number of teams to finals 5 years running. We look forward to Nada develop and strengthen our B and C teams.
05.01.2022 Presidents Report Round 5 Hello everyone and welcome to my weekly report. Well another COVID19 week has passed us by and I again hope you have found some solace... and comfort from those near and dear to you. In one of my earlier editions I mentioned someone checked in on me to see how I was going given the many issues on my plate and on the table at present. Just for the record I am still going okay. The reason I reference this as I am wondering if you have you checked in with a few of your mates yet? The power within this simple question should not to be confused with any perceived fear of any complexities. So, I challenge you, ring someone, text someone or visit someone and ask how you travelling mate?. I am not sure that the current social distancing rules will allow you to engage in a coffee or refreshment but perhaps you can put a date in your dairy for one when these laws are lifted. Trust me when I say, you will feel good for taking that simple action and putting your focus on someone else during these difficult times. To those who have afforded that time to me, I again say thank you and for anyone who has checked in on a mate or two I equally say well done and keep up the good work. Last week I mentioned the passing of NGFNL and Rosedale FNC Life member Mr Lionel Harris. As embarrassing as it is, I quoted the incorrect date of his passing, a poor excuse I know but I just had too many documents open and looked at the date on another document. Lionel passed on 30th November 2019. My apologies to the Harris family and all associated friends who may have taken umbridge to that slip up it certainly was not intended. During the week AFL Gippsland, spearheaded by Richard Black, rolled out and invitation to all clubs to participate in a club finance webinar. My understanding was that whilst some reluctance was eminent amongst some, the webinar provided many handy hints and strategies for clubs to consider and if deemed prudent adopt moving forward. To pick up one point I have been saying for a long time, we underestimate the value of membership in our organizations and should we all be able to grow this aspect of any specific club or Brand then I can reassure you it will paying dividends in the future. Well done to those who participated and should anyone require some info let me know and I will see what AFL Gippsland can provide. Well done AFL Gippsland and well done Richard Black for your leadership in this space. In September 2019 AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan announced the AFL ‘s Victorian Country Football funding initiative as part of the AFL ‘s strategic investment into community football where $1.5m annually for 3 years will be allocated after formal and final signoff by the AFL. In February 2020 I was asked to nominate to be part of the Strategic Community Investment Fund Board (SCIF Board) and was subsequently formally appointed on the 12th March 2020. I have not really said anything or made a song and dance about this because of the difficult times Gippsland was currently under and then COVID19 hit our world and agenda. However, the SCIF Advisory Board is a committee established by the Australian Football League (AFL) for the purpose to review, assess and provide objective and independent recommendations to the AFL in relation to funding applications as part of the SCIF funding and grants scheme. The SCIF will be charged with the responsibility of ensuring guidelines are created and are consistently assessed and equitably applied to all applications received. The composition of the Advisory Board is as follows: Mr Steve Bracks - (Chair appointed by the AFL) Mr Ray Horsburgh- (Chair of AFL Vic) Bonnie Cavanagh - Project Mgr Media & Corporate Dpt Vic Police & President Broadford FNC Chris Thomas - Commissioner at AFL Goulburn Murray David Kyle - President NGFNL Daise Bechensale - AFL Multi cultural Community Ambassador & Advisor and International Relations AFP Rick Bell- AFL Victoria I think we would all agree this is an eclectic group with diverse experience and skills. This clearly puts me in good company and I will try very hard to represent the broader AFL Gippsland community with passion, competence and humility. To date COVID19 has impacted our ability to formally meet as a group to scope out the SCIF funding guidelines and subsequent application process. As many of you will recall AFL Vic stood down many employees until the impacts of COVID19 can pass. Having said that I have been gathering my thoughts on this subject matter and trust I will be somewhat prepared for that occasion. In addition I suspect our first meeting may be via a Zoom conference to that the concept can at least get rolling. When prudent and appropriate I will keep you all in the loop of any progress and timelines made in this space. For those who receive and read the publication of the Latrobe Valley Express you would have noticed an article on an initiative by the TTUFNC being executed recently. Two nights per week they have been turning on their lights for the Tyers and surrounding community to come down and walk or exercise given there are limited places to do so in the surrounding area. With winter nights bearing down, finding a safe place to do so make this somewhat difficult. ALL social distancing policies are strictly enforced. Notwithstanding any perceived challenges I thought this was a novel idea and unique concept of a local club giving back to their community which is again above and beyond what they also achieved for the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund in January where they raised in excess of $30k. WOW what a great look for that club and the NGFNL Brand. As many of you know I live at the back of the TTU ground (probably 3 or 4 Justin Staley Torps) and when I read this I thought President Shaun McClements may have been sending me a message that the old boy might have needed a venue to cut out a few laps and shed a few kilo’s!! Well thanks TTU what a great idea and I just might have to head in that direction next week to join in the activity. I have not mentioned the team at the NGFNL Tribunal in any of my previous articles, so I thought it prudent to give a shout out to Henry bomber Scholtz Tribunal Chairman, Graeme Hemming Tribunal Secretary and all sitting panel members. I hope you guys are all travelling okay. Whilst I am sure it is not the panels desire to hold tribunal sessions each week they are certainly getting a break from the rigours of a normal season. As a league we are always interested in trying to find prudent panel members so should anyone reading this have an interest give me call and we can have a chat about the role and responsibilities. That being said, the current group do an amazing job in difficult circumstances during the season proper and I look forward to catching up with them in due course. Well I am on page 3 again and that means I have certainly said enough for this week. In these wintery conditions we are probably grateful of not having to hit the courts and fields this weekend but I guess we do play winter sports!! In conclusion stay safe, keep well and look after all your loved ones. Have a great weekend and speak soon David Dirty Kyle President
