17.01.2022 ANZAC Day Cancellation 2020 It is with a heavy and solemn heart that we advise of the cancellation of the ANZAC Day commemorative services on Saturday April 25. This action has been taken on the direction of RSL NSW State Branch due to the effect and impact of the Covid-19 virus. The order applies to all ANZAC Day activities in all Sub Branches in NSW because of the risk to our communities.... We know and appreciate the disappointment that this cancellation will mean to many people. The only other time ANZAC Day was not held was in 1942 after Japan had entered World War 2. The Sub Branch wants to acknowledge those members of the community who have been preparing to assist with the 2020 commemorations. Thank you for your offers of support for the events that we hoped to conduct this year. Your involvement was very much appreciated, breakfast will not be served in the RSL Club on ANZAC Day. Meanwhile, the Australian War Memorial will go ahead with a private, nationally televised ANZAC Day commemorative service. The traditional Dawn Service, national ceremony and veterans' march will not take place. The event will not be open to the public but will be broadcast live across Australia by the ABC and streamed online.

08.01.2022 LETTERBOX TRIBUTE FOR ANZAC DAY With ANZAC Day services cancelled, have you thought about what you'll be doing on April 25th to show your appreciation to our fallen soldiers? Well, if you have a letterbox - and something red - there's a local initiative you can get involved in for free - and from the safety of home. Why letterboxes?... Picture a mother waiting for word from the front on her boys. The letterbox was the source of fear, dread, grief and joy for families in those dark times, when so many didn’t return. Central Coast historian Merril Jackson, who was behind the Skillion Poppy Project at Terrigal, has an easy-to-implement idea to commemorate ANZAC Day. She's asking us to attach something red to our letterboxes - a piece of ribbon, wool, some rosemary, or crafted poppy, be it drawn, knitted, crotched - for #anzacletterbox2020 - and then post a picture to https://www.facebook.com/poppyprojectcentralcoast/ For further details go to: https://www.facebook.com/poppyprojectcentralcoast See more
