25.01.2022 The story behind EXTREMITIES. In 1978, playwright William Mastrosimone met a battered and bruised woman who had recently been a victim of a savage sexual assault. As she revealed her terrifying story to him he realized how little he knew about the heartbreaking legacy of such an event, and how a person’s life is never the same again. Even though the woman had identified her attacker there had been no witnesses, so after a lengthy court trial, the case was dismissed. So confid...ent was he of his indemnity, his parting message to her was that he was going to come back and finish the job. The woman tried to return to normal life but after months of living in fear of his return she quit her job, sold her house and moved to another state. Before leaving she revealed to Mastrosimone that her biggest regret was that she didn’t fight back when she had the chance and her desire to reclaim the opportunity to punish her attacker was ever present. From that conversation the idea for Extremities was born and the writer embarked on months of research into the pathology of offenders, the torment of victims and a court system that lets dangerous criminals back into society to re-offend with impunity. The result is a remarkable piece of theatre that is as physical as it is emotional. As fiction based on reality it makes a unique amalgam of narrative and documentary. The story begins with an assault on a woman who is at home alone. By the time her housemates return, her attacker has become her captive and she struggles to convince them of the severity of the assault and how close she came to becoming a fatal statistic. As the only witness to the attack the audience experiences the story from the perspective of victim, peer and assailant in a reversal that turns the small loungeroom into a virtual courtroom. The performances of the four actors are exceptional and the theatrical experience is unlike anything you’ve seen before. 20.01.2022 Hello everyone, Here is some info about a CASTING for a SEAFOOD INDUSTRY TV COMMERCIAL. The info was sent to me on Wed 30th Sept with a 3pm Thurs 1st Oct deadline. Unfortunately this is the first time that I've had a chance to look at it, although the sender has asked me to not to be concerned about the deadline and put a notification up anyway. It sounds like they're after a 'host' type character to interview everyday locals as part of the ad but you'll have to talk to the h...ost who I can supply the details for. Here is what they're looking for: Male / Principal / Caucasian / 30 - 45 NON CELEBRITY VERSION HAMISH BLAKE WHO IS LIKEABLE AND FUNNY AND EVERYONE WARMS TO HIM. GOOD GUY!! Someone who has lived and learnt and knows a thing or two but also who doesn’t have to try too hard to bring us along for the ride and into their way of seeing things. Authentic and true, so the audience engages with them and appreciates their conviction. Their role is to observe and engage, as opposed to making a political point or somehow using their influence. It’s all about natural-born charm. Conveying the joy of natural-born Aussie simplicity. They will be requiring a self recorded video for the audition. If you're interested, write to me (Gavin) at [email protected]. and I can send you all the details and a contact number. I don't know what their new deadline is but I assume time is of the essence so write soon. Good luck. Gavin

With her life changed forever she now finds herself faced with a choice that threatens to drag her and her housemates into a frighte...ning and dangerous situation. The play takes a serious look at how the justice system treats victims of crime and how the limits of our empathy are tested by such events. This is physically confronting and highly emotional theatre that grabs you by the scruff of the neck and won’t let go. The performances are exceptional and audiences are constantly challenged by questions the story raises. Contains violence, adult themes and strong language. 13.01.2022 The play GOSFORD THEATRE COMPANY is presenting in July 2018 touches on exactly this situation. EXTREMITIES was written by William Mastrosimone in 1978 but it's obvious the idea of consent is still as cloudy as it was then. As confronting as it is it's a story that needs to be told and discussed and debated.

04.01.2022 A heartfelt thanks to all those people who came along and supported these four amazing individuals in Gosford Theatre Company's season of EXTREMITIES. Here are some comments: ......................................................................... -Saw Gosford Theatre Company's production of 'Extremities' today. Very powerful theatre. Samantha Winsor - you were amaaazing! Great work! Staggeringly good ............................. -so go and see it to encourage more ...challenging productions like this. Samantha Winsor, Daniel Asher Smith, Aimee Honor (in only her second play ever) & Sierra Phillips give gritty, powerful performances .......................................................... -We were all amazed at the talent of those young actors....... -an outstanding cast and crew.................................................. -disturbingly real and extremely thought provoking................... -Daniel Asher Smith, Aimee Honor-Eltham, Samantha Winsor, and Sierra Phillips performed so well together, great chemistry amongst the cast. ..................................................................... -An absorbing play that was of professional standard, wonderful characterisations, timing and blocking. 04.01.2022 Gosford Theatre Company's 'Extremities' opened on Friday 13th July at the Hub Erina to an enthusiastic reception from Central Coast audiences. People also came from Newcastle and Sydney to see this amazing performance by 4 exceptional actors. Here are some pics and comments by Sydney based audience member DJ Maynard.................................................. "I recommend the production of Extremities that opened last night from Gosford Theatre Company . It is, at times..., a very harrowing play about sexual assault and the resulting justice, if any. It’s also not the type of play you might expect to see on the Central Coast, so go and see it to encourage more challenging productions like this. Samantha Winsor, Daniel Asher Smith, Aimee Honor (in only her second play ever) & Sierra Phillips give a gritty, powerful performance that can be dark to watch at times. But the subject matter, written in 1982 by William Mastrosimone, is as relevant as ever." Till 21st July bookings: http://gosfordtheatre.com.au See more

04.01.2022 QUOTES FROM THIS EPISODE OF THE GROUNDBREAKING ABC SERIES: "....you just want to survive.... you'll do anything to live" "....my mum was really nervous about me being on the show... she didn't want me speaking out in case certain people saw it... but that's part of the problem"... "...so you have a choice, you can believe and reform the society we live in or you can empower the perpetrators by choosing not to believe" After last weeks performances of 'EXTREMITIES' audiences were engaged in discussions about these issues but were also blown away by the power of the performance they had just seen. Part of GOSFORD THEATRE COMPANY's mandate is to promote the idea that good theatre entertains as well as informs. This production does both eloquently as well as being some of the best performances you will ever see. Last three shows at the HUB Erina - Friday 20th and Saturday 21st - Get your tickets NOW at trybooking.com (search for events - EXTREMITIES)

01.01.2022 From the 13th July 2018 GOSFORD THEATRE COMPANY brings William Mastrosimone’s EXTREMITIES to the HUB performance space at Erina Fair for six amazing performances. Partially based on a true story EXTREMITIES is the tale of one woman’s terrifying ordeal and the choices she has to make to survive. The incidents portrayed here relate directly to recent events where women have begun to question the concepts of consent and how they are now expected to ‘adjust’ their behavior to be ...safe in an increasingly dangerous world. In this time of heightened awareness on the issue of violence against women, this play raises questions about our social responsibilities by putting the audience firmly in the witness box. For almost 40 years Extremities has been performed all over the world on a professional and semi-professional level. Actors such as Susan Sarandon, Helen Mirren and Kathy Bates have performed in the U.S. and British productions and Farrah Fawcett won a Golden Globe best actress nomination for her performance in the 1986 film version. "A good, jolting evening." -N.Y. Daily News "A white knuckle psychological thriller." -USA Today electricit bristles with so much energy that it makes you feel glad to be in a theatre again - N.Y.
