14.01.2022 Meeting No. 640 on 15 April 2019 - ANZAC DAY Every year the club recognises and reflects on Australia's involvement and the different meanings of war. This year our meeting was even more important as two of our members are former servicemen. Toastmaster Pascale Amberville-Colby who served in the Royal Australian Navy was the host for today's special meeting. 'Everyone naturally fights for what they believe is right', was Pascale's opening statement as he explained his role in... the medical unit. Having a family history of servicemen, Pascale explains why it is important we come together as a nation on the 25th of April in remembrance. Lance Scott who served in the Army inspired us with the heroic story of Ordinary Seaman Edward Sheean who died serving his country and saving his fellow sailors. His legacy lives on with one of six Collins-class submarines being named after him. Our first speaker Daniel Stevens presented a history of Australian Political Parties. Informing us of his family's history with politics and his disappointment with the major parties. He realises that Australia's political system is in a fortunate position with a third of votes having enough power to have an important influence. Topicsmaster Lynda Ellery wanted to know what makes ANZAC Day so special. Is it really an attempt to learn from the mistakes of the past? To help answer this question, Lynda presented a word and asked each member to explain its significance to this special remembrance day. Second speaker, Hannah Rainsforth spoke about the importance of friendship and camaraderie. Sharing with us her life experiences to explain how we mature not only within ourselves but with our friendships. Thank you to all our guests who helped share in this special occasion and to all our speakers for making it an event to remember - lest we forget. ~GFT See more

01.01.2022 Two of Gosnells Foothills favourite members were presented with a wedding gift. Bec and Tim were recently married and are preparing for their next nuptial adventure. Bec has been a real inspiration for the club, having joined six years ago and being the Toastmaster of the Year for the Division in 2016. She is passionate about public speaking and being a voice for those with special needs. Bec is driven by her idol Kelly Vincent and is not afraid to take on challenges. Occasionally she is faced with set-backs but always picks herself up and comes back stronger. Tim as been with us for a year and has been supportive in his role as Treasurer. We have been impressed with his methodical approach to everything including public speaking. Best Wishes to you both.. as Tim says there are never goodbyes in Toastmasters! ~GFT
01.01.2022 Meeting No. 639 on 1 April 2019 The club celebrated it's 27th anniversary with today's meeting. President Daniel Stevens hosted the event and was a little shocked to realise the year when the club started and how old he was back then! Cathy inspired us with a funny incident involving the breaking of her bed. Reminding us that sometimes we can't take life too serious and we need to have a laugh. Our first speaker was Lynda, giving us an ice-breaker from her Pathways programme.... Lynda explains how meeting her husband and some of the things he was involved with had changed her life and outlook. From out of the darkness she found and explored her goal of learning the power of natural health. Now she would like to discover her voice so she can encourage others to join her in walking in the sunshine. Barbara was Topicsmaster asking us some great questions on the foolishness of April 1st. We all had an opportunity to share a prank that we had experienced. Shayne was the second speaker sharing with us his experience under the Toastmasters mentor-protégé programme. Shayne explains how a mentor is there to listen and bounce ideas, not to solve or fix problems. The protégé increases their skills and capabilities by realising their problems and discovering solutions through open communication. Having people to support you in this manner reduces stress in your daily lives which in turn can increase life expectancy! We then brought out the cake and celebrated together. Thank you all for the great fellowship and for the wonderful experiences we have shared so far! ~GFT. See more
