21.01.2022 At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 the guns fell silent across Europe, marking the end of World War 1. With this silence 62,000 Australians - nearly one third of them Victorians - had lost their lives. While the nation rejoiced that war was over, nothing could mask the heartbreak of the loss of so many young soldiers.... Today at 11am we remember and honour those that made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation and we thank the Victorians and Australians currently serving. Recently we have had Australian Defence Force personnel in Shepparton assisting as part of the COVID-19 pandemic response and we thank them for their service, assistance and support during this time. We also wish all armed forces personnel serving overseas a safe return from their posting. Lest we forget.
18.01.2022 Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2020 This week is National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week for 2020 with celebrations to be held from 8 ...November through to 15 November. Due to COVID-19, this year’s celebratory week was delayed from the usual time each July. While the usual number of events around Shepparton and the surrounding region is exceptionally limited this year, GV Health will honour the week with a flag raising ceremony, there will be posters and balloons on display around the health service and this week’s Shepparton News feature, ‘In Touch with Our Community’ will highlight the week and the services provided to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at GV Health through the great work of our Aboriginal Liaison Officers. This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is Always Was, Always Will Be. The theme recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to support our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. However, we should all be mindful of the need to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people each and every day. Pictured below is the 2020 National NAIDOC Poster from the National NAIDOC Committee.
