25.01.2022 They dont say patience is a virtue for nothing! In a world where everything is instant and accessible, it can be incredibly difficult facing a long-term recovery from an accident or injury. Patience isnt something that we can master overnight; it takes practice and work to train our brains to think differently and accept that some things take longer to heal.

25.01.2022 Do you value your health and happiness more than your possessions?

21.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

21.01.2022 This whole pandemic, if anything, has made us realise how much we as a species need human connection. Being able to lean on each other through tough times and laugh together through the fun times has never been so important as it is now. Take some time this week to connect and remind yourself that you love and are loved in return.

20.01.2022 Today is "Cheer up the Lonely" day. A day to take a moment and reach out to those who might be struggling or facing difficult times; remembering that loneliness can also come to those we see as the strongest characters in our life.

19.01.2022 A very popular, but no less impactful quote. For Give Something Away day tomorrow, we encourage everyone to look at what they have in abundance that could be shared with others less fortunate. Could you donate some old clothes to a charity? Buy someone a coffee? Or maybe your gift isnt tangible, it could simply be giving someone your undivided attention and support.

13.01.2022 At Gouldson we believe in community, supporting ours when and how we can. In 2015, we connected with the RBWH Foundations' Burnslife program as our charity partner to provide them much needed fundraising support after a past client, who had suffered terrible burns in an accident, turned that experience into an opportunity to help others. Burnslife is an incredible organisation that assists burns patients and their families on their road to recovery through rehabilitation wit...h peer support and education. We are extremely proud to say that we’ve helped Burnslife raise over $76,573.14 during our time together. We also thank all of our clients who made contributions to this fabulous cause. 13.01.2022 Back pain is one of most common reasons people see a doctor or miss days at work. Back pain can range in intensity from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp or shooting pain. It can begin suddenly as a result of the smallest accident or mishap. There are two types of back pain: Acute, or short-term back pain lasts a few days to a few weeks. It tends to resolve on its own within a few days with self-care and there is no residual loss of function. In some cases a few months... are required for the symptoms to disappear. Chronic back pain is defined as pain that continues for 12 weeks or longer, even after an initial injury or underlying cause of acute low back pain has been treated. About 20 percent of people affected by acute low back pain develop chronic low back pain with persistent symptoms at one year. If you have normalised your back pain from a recent accident, let today be the day you take action. Our Gouldson team are on hand to help you. Information supplied from NINDS (www.ninds.nih.gov)

13.01.2022 Many people who suffer from anxiety or depression have found gardening and caring for plants to be incredibly beneficial. Gardening makes us feel good because it is both a physical exercise, which releases endorphins, and also a creative art that allows us to express ourselves. For some, it provides an opportunity to be social by joining community gardening projects or getting an allotment. For others, it can simply be a reason to get out of the house, when you otherwise feel like getting out of bed is an impossibility. Not only can gardening benefit our mental well-being, it also plays a part in serving our physical and social wellbeing. Studies have also shown that humans are instinctively more at ease and relaxed within a natural environment, because of a base predisposition to understand and affiliate with nature.

11.01.2022 What does a personal injury lawyer really do? We do a lot of things, but we dont chase ambulances (its illegal in Qld). Do you really picture us all lined up at the RBWH ambulance ramp handing out sweaty business cards? We whipped up this post to bust some of those unflattering common myths and shed a bright light on our role in helping injured clients get the best settlement amount for their situation. 10.01.2022 It can often feel frustrating when we dont achieve the level of expectation that we have set ourselves. Recovery from an illness, mobility from an injury, or maybe even failing to uphold a promise to do better. Life can take turns in ways we never expect, and sometimes we question how we move forward. If you can show forgiveness, grace, and patience to others, then you deserve to show it to yourself.

09.01.2022 Coronavirus is tough to deal with for most of us, let alone those who are dealing with a serious injury, disability, or are unable to look after themselves. If you fall under this category, please ensure that you and your support workers are taking the utmost care during these times. Below are some tips to follow: - Cover your mouth to cough or sneeze, dispose of tissues, and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser.... - Have your support providers (and anyone else entering your home) wash their hands when they arrive at your home and each time prior to touching or assisting you with any tasks. - Regularly clean and disinfect the surfaces that are touched in your home to prevent the spread of infection or ask your support providers to do this on a regular basis. - Use disinfecting wipes on items that are frequently touched including your phone, doorknobs, refrigerator handle, wheelchair controls, and remote controls. Of course, if you are unwell you should avoid contact with others and get in touch with your GP immediately if you think it could be coronavirus.

08.01.2022 Physical injuries and emotional trauma from an accident can have an untold impact on how we move forward with our lives. An important part of healing is to acknowledge how we have been affected and our new path in life. Your story does not end here.

08.01.2022 Forgiveness is one of the most difficult things to give or receive, especially when you have experienced a life changing accident or injury. Its a process that no one can rush, and at times it feels impossible to even consider. Sometimes forgiveness isnt for someone else, sometimes its about giving yourself permission to forgive yourself and move onto a new chapter of your life. Our website has a list of counselling, health and wellbeing resources should you ever need support. gouldson.com.au/support-groups/

07.01.2022 Everything we do is bound by strict timelines. It can be really tough for a lot of our clients who are already under pressure to then have the added burden of needing to get on top of a claim. Well, that's what we're here for. Unfortunately, the timing is never quite right and it will continue to go by so it's worth getting things done sooner when you can.

07.01.2022 Its Tradies National Health Month in August! This year, more than ever, its important that tradies start practicing better self-care to protect their health at work and at home. While attitudes toward health and safety seem to be improving amongst workers, theyre still more inclined to take better care of their tools and vehicle than their body and mind! How about that? 07.01.2022 Goals, courage and humour. We all possess the ability to look at life through these lenses but unfortunately, we can too easily get swept up in the daily grind to see the bigger picture. Is there a situation in your life where you might benefit from a little more courage, intention, or humour?

05.01.2022 Wishing everyone a chilled and relaxing weekend! See you bright and early on Monday morning.

05.01.2022 The phrase "hitting rock bottom" can never truly be understood until it is experienced. Its the point where we feel we have come to a dead-end. However, from the depths of these times, something truly amazing can happen... The only way left to go is up.

05.01.2022 Do you know the guidelines around fitting a helmet? Unfortunately, our Australian statistics show that cyclists count for 3% of all road fatalities and 15% of all road hospitalizations. Wearing a helmet could be the difference between surviving a crash or not, but there's no point having a helmet on your head if it is not correctly fitted! Here are the 4 key stages when fitting a safety helmet for yourself or your children: 1. Fit to the circumference of your head... Measure the circumference of your head in order to choose the correct size. Experts say if you are on the borderline of a helmet size range, go up a size rather than trying to squeeze into one. It is easier and safer to fit a slightly larger helmet than try and fit into one too small. 2. Loosen everything before fitting Before putting the helmet on, loosen the helmet adjustable ratchet system, chin strap and ear strap. 3. Ensure the helmet sits level Imagine you have a spirit level on the top of your helmet; put the helmet on, making sure it is straight and level. Many people think that the helmet should be tilted but this is wrong. Also, be aware of any tilting left or right. 4. Tighten the straps After adjusting the ratchet system of your helmet, the helmet should be tight enough to stay on without the assistance of the chin strap. The chin strap should be adjusted to allow one finger to fit underneath and no more. If the chin strap is too loose, the helmet could come off in the event of a crash, too tight and it will make for a very uncomfortable ride. The final step is to adjust the ear strap so that no part of the strap is rubbing on your ear. #roadsafety #cyclesafety #surviveyourcommute #cyclistsafetytips #gouldsonlegal #googlegouldson #whentheworsthappens

05.01.2022 Every phase of life has benefits. Make the most of where you are today and enjoy the journey because life is short. Here are some ways to be satisfied-happy, even-with how things are unfolding: 1. Show gratitude - look for the little things to be thankful for 2. Be committed - remind yourself often of your hopes, goals and dreams 3. Cherish your friends - Friends and family are the support pillars of life; take the time to remind them of just how special they are to you... 4. Keep on learning - Keep expanding your mind; you never know where it can reach to! 5. Dont multitask - Value the art of focussing and productivity over taking on too much at once 6. Balance your life - Keeping a balance of work, play and down-time is extremely important for your mental health See more

05.01.2022 Do you notice differences in how you sleep during the summer versus the winter? We've pulled together some quick tips on what you can you do about it to make sure you're getting enough sleep all year long. 1. While we can’t change the time the sun sets or rises, we can control our sleeping environment. Eliminating light by using blackout blinds and turning off electronic devices allows us to regulate the body's internal "sleep clock"the biological mechanism that helps with b...oth the quantity and quality of sleep we get. 2. Maximising exposure to sunlight in the morning can help to regulate your melatonin levels and make it easier to fall asleep at night. Try going for a morning walk to start your day, especially if you are still working from home and don't often leave the house before you start work! 3. Put away the electronics at least an hour before bed. The artificial light emitted from our devices contains blue light, which blocks melatonin production and disrupts the circadian rhythms. In essence, it tells the brain it's time to be alert and makes it more difficult to fall asleep. 4. At night, our core body temperature decreases by two or three degrees to initiate sleep. Experts say the ideal sleeping temperature sits around 15 to 19 degrees celsius. For us in Queensland, this presents an obvious challenge during summer! Popping the aircon on for an hour before bedtime, as well as sleeping in lighter bedding can help create a cooler environment for us to fall asleep. Our bodies lose heat through our hands and feet, so keep them outside of the covers to cool down.

05.01.2022 Accidents happen, we know. And we're here for you when they do. However, doing your best to prevent workplace injuries by communicating with your colleagues, understanding WHS procedures, and knowing where your employers duty of care extends to can only be a plus from where we're standing. Safety in the office, on the worksite, in the hospital, in the restaurant, it all matters and it can play a pretty big part in preventing serious injuries

04.01.2022 Wouldn't it be wonderful if life was on a constant upwards trajectory? It's difficult to feel positive during the low times when life feels like 2 steps forward and 5 steps back, but it's important to remember that setbacks in life are always going to happen and we cannot control that. What we can control, however, is how we choose to view our life and what we choose to focus on.

04.01.2022 With masks becoming a mandatory part of life in other states of our country, it no doubt raises many questions about the future for us Queenslanders. Thankfully, we seem to be doing great work with social distancing and hygiene practices and hopefully we can continue the good fight to keep our numbers as low as possible.

04.01.2022 Mental Health is a topic we discuss regularly on our social media channels, as it can often creep up without warning when someone has experienced an injury or setback in life. Unfortunately, many people regard talking about their problems as a sign of weakness. But its really a sign of strength. Over years of handling thousands and thousands of claims, we have had cause to recommend the services or many other organisations to our clients. Should you ever find yourself in need of a support service or group, please visit our page https://gouldson.com.au/support-groups/

04.01.2022 What is happening? The pandemic’s initial chaos and confusion seeped into every crevice of our lives and forced us to quickly adapt. But as the drama and pace of change settles, so too is our energy and engagement at work. We’re seeing reports of employees feeling stressed, disengaged, and demotivated. But just because the world is unpredictable and seemingly falling apart, doesn’t mean you need to be as well. Our latest blog discusses 3 ways to help restore a sense of control and motivation at work. Read more at https://bit.ly/38OwQyS

01.01.2022 Today is known as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it. In general terms, it manifests itself in physical, sexual and psychological forms, encompassing intimate partner violence (battering, psychological abuse, marital... rape, femicide); sexual violence and harassment (rape, forced sexual acts, unwanted sexual advances, child sexual abuse, forced marriage, street harassment, stalking, cyber-harassment); human trafficking (slavery, sexual exploitation); female genital mutilation; and child marriage. With such alarming figures being reported, we encourage everyone to take a moment today and visit https://www.un.org/en/events/endviolenceday/ Information from the UN End Violence page

01.01.2022 Have you given thought into workplace health and safety at home? With our guard down at home, we are more likely to overlook potential risks. For example: Are you sitting on a dining chair as opposed to a supportive office chair? Have you thrown your laptop charger across your kitchen countertop in order to reach the closest power outlet? Are you rushing, distractedly, between various house-tasks and work-tasks? With October being dedicated to Safety at Work, we ask you to run a quick check on your workplace environments so you can stay safe, whether it's in an office setting or squeezed on the edge of your dining table! #safetyatworkmonth #healthandsafety #googlegouldson

01.01.2022 Recycling and litter! Where does your efforts stretch to, and where do they stop? Litter can negatively impact our sense of community and make people feel less safe. By picking it up, even if its not your own, you are showing pride for your community, and who knows, could encourage a passer by to follow your lead and do the same! In addition to this, clearing our landscapes of polluting litter ensures the protection of our wildlife as our animals could confuse litter for food or nesting materials. Simple methods such as keeping a pair of protection gloves and a bag in your car or backpack can make if feasible for us to safely collect and dispose of litter on our streets and in our parks.
