22.01.2022 The Government House Foundation Board has been working hard to find a way to stage the innovative Nuit Blanche experience. Sadly, due to the continuing restrictions placed on venues due to COVID-19, the Board has made the difficult decision to cancel Nuit Blanche, which was due to take place in the Ballroom on Saturday 3 October 2020. Different rules apply to outdoor venues so, in the absence of any change to Government restrictions, Jazz on the Lawn on Sunday 8 November 2020 is still going ahead and we hope to see you all there.

13.01.2022 Following a visit to Challis Community Primary School (Armadale) in August, the Governor left inspired to help the school’s music program which relies heavily... on community instrument donations. Thanks to the Government House Foundation of Western Australia, eight new cellos were presented to students in the music program's string section last week by the Governor, his wife Ms Susie Annus and the Government House Foundation's Artistic Director Ms Fiona Campbell. "I am delighted that through the Foundation we have been able to call on people in the community who know the importance of the arts to give back to this wonderful program," the Governor said. "I thank everyone involved for their support and donations which will truly provide the gift of music to Challis students." School Principal Mrs Lee Musumeci said she was uplifted by the support, "The Challis music program is all about providing children the opportunity to write their own life story. "This donation means that children who have been attending lessons and sharing an instrument will now be able to have their own. Speaking about the importance of music education, Government House Foundation of Western Australia Artistic Director Ms Fiona Campbell said, The cello, magnificent as it is, is more than a musical instrument in these children’s lives. "It is a powerful and practical tool to learn all sorts of life skills through the discipline of practice, including listening, communicating, working collaboratively in a group and finding a unique way to be expressive..." As well as cellos, the music program is also currently seeking donations of half size violins Read more on this story here: bit.ly/3n7yy3i Public education in Western Australia
