25.01.2022 Great to visit the Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science and receive an update on their current research projects and the future direction of Western Australia’s longest established medical research institute. The team at Perron provided a brief about their journey during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and the impacts it had on the Institute both good and bad. The lessons learnt on how Perron operated and adapted during COVID-19 have them well placed... moving forward, enabling them to focus on important research and medical breakthroughs. Their future direction is to position Perron as a world-class Institute in specific areas of research namely precision medicines and disease origins. Another focus area is clinical applications including treatment regimes, drug trial management and participation. The Governor is proud to be Patron of the Perron Institute.

25.01.2022 Today is #RemembranceDay the 102nd anniversary of the Armistice that ended the First World War on 11 November 1918. It is a day of special significance to all Australians, commemorating the loss of Australian lives in all wars, conflicts and peace operations. It is a time to honour the sacrifice of both those who served and that of their families and loved ones.... At today’s RSLWA service at Kings Park, the Governor (Patron of RSLWA) delivered the Remembrance Day address, We gather here today, together, to pay our respects to those who went to war and never returned and to those who did return, many bearing the physical and mental scars of armed conflict. We promised them and their loved ones they would never be forgotten. This is a sacred duty we must perform. In itself that is an act building the spirit for our continued defence." Lest we forget. #WeRememberThem

21.01.2022 Thank you for the forgiveness that you all show us by your presence here. The Governor offered this heartfelt sentiment to the Aboriginal Elders at yesterday’s opening of the new Curtin University Carrolup Centre for Truth-telling during National NAIDOC Week 2020. The Carrolup artworks were created by Aboriginal children stolen from their families and detained at the Western Australian Carrolup Native Settlement in the 1940s.... After being lost overseas for 60 years, these unique artworks will now live permanently at the Carrolup Centre to allow as many people as possible to engage with the collection and advance healing and reconciliation. #NAIDOCWeek is an opportunity for our whole community to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is also a chance to understand and reflect on the trials suffered. To move forward means our relationship must be grounded in a foundation of truth. Truth-telling is vital to healing. Congratulations to Curtin and the Nyungar Elders who have worked on this Centre a place for an ongoing dialogue about reconciliation and hope. #AlwayswasAlwayswillbe

Bob was delighted and proud to be engaged with EAA as both he and I thought that, in terms of building competence in the community broadly and opp...ortunity in particular for Aboriginal Australians, you could do no better than establish a linkage effectively between those opportunities, the encouragement of aptitudes for maths and science and a nation building professional like engineering. I applaud the Indigenous Australian Engineering School participants and alumni for demonstrating your commitment to enhancing your future employment opportunities."

03.01.2022 Looking for a great weekend getaway? Head out to Toodyay this weekend and follow in the Governor’s footsteps Thanks to the Shire of Toodyay and the Wheatbelt Development Commission for helping to arrange a thoroughly enjoyable visit. Christmas 360, Uniquely Toodyay, Toodyay Bakery and theVictoria Hotel Toodyay are a must see when you are in town.... Reflecting on his recent day trip, the Governor said, I really appreciate the great care and effort of the community members in the regional towns of Western Australia when I visit. Parts of our immediate country have such enormous value in keeping visitors entertained during these changing times with the COVID-19 pandemic. Toodyay has become an area that is even more significant in the environment in which we are living and we learn a lot about ourselves and our history. All of the close towns throughout the Wheatbelt region have marvellous features and in Toodyay's case they have a really beautiful Gaol Museum. This is a first-class museum and a must visit. It's also great to hear that the council meets in the Old Court House building which in itself has historical meaning. The addition of the new sports and aquatic precinct opening in late December, will only add to the charm and vibrance of this fantastic town. 01.01.2022 The Governor enjoyed meeting participants of this year’s Western Australian YMCA Youth Parliament at Government House recently. This closing reception event is held at Government House every year, providing an opportunity for the Youth Governor and the Program Coordinator to present the Governor with the Bills created in Youth Parliament (pictured), followed by a reception with all youth parliamentarians. Through this event, participants gain an understanding of the role of... the Governor in the legislative process. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, 2020 was a different year for Youth Parliament. All debates were held at the WA Constitutional Centre. Youth Parliament embraced digital technologies with the Bills largely being first formulated via virtual committee bill writing meetings. The Youth Parliament Taskforce maintained engagement with participants during the early stages of the pandemic in Western Australia via a video podcast, a virtual trivia night and training day, an online leadership election and a number of other initiatives. The YMCA Youth Parliament is a national project that gives young people a chance to stand up and have their voices heard. The program aims to educate, empower and encourage young people to take an active role in their community by contributing the views of their electorate at a state level. 01.01.2022 A special event was held at Government House this week to raise vital awareness for mental health and the prevention of suicide in our community... Each year, farmers Peter and Judy Milton organise a ‘Charity Cattle Auction’ at the Perth Royal Show with all proceeds from the sale of one steer going to the Black Dog Ride. With this year's Royal Show cancelled, the Governor was delighted to help the Miltons, hosting the official handover of the 2020 steer named Winston - a 60...0 kilo, purebred Charolais, generously donated by the Yost Family from Liberty Charolais & Shorthorn. Winston was purchased for $11,000 by Harvest Road Group, represented on the day by Mrs Nicola Forrest, Co-Chair of Minderoo Foundation and Tattarang. Peter and Judy’s ‘Winston Project’ has seen 13 steers visit communities to provide an eye opening opportunity to talk to people about mental illness. Their commitment and generosity sets an inspiring example and has seen them raise thousands of dollars for the Black Dog Ride - a wonderful grass-roots initiative and community effort
