21.01.2022 As Tasmania woke to magical scenes of snow today we all wondered when this last happened to such an extent. It appears that the most comparable weather event wa...s 99 years ago in late July 1921. The Weekly Courier published several photos from Launceston, Hobart and the West Coast. The Examiner provides a summary of the photos. Examiner, Wednesday 3 August 1921, page 4 THE GREAT SNOWFALL REFLECTED IN THE "COURIER." Sunday's great snowstorm is effectively mirrored in this week's "Courier." A fine selection of pictures was obtained of scenes in and around Hobart, and these convey a striking impression of the heavy fall that was experienced in the south. A snowballing scene in Launceston is also included. There are nearly three pages of "snow'' pictures and these will represent a splendid record of one of the biggest snowstorms experienced in Tasmania. Examiner, Friday 5 August 1921, page 4 SNOW PICTURES. There has not been a fall of snow in Tasmania like that of Sunday for over a quarter of a century, so the opportunity should not be lost of securing a fine pictorial record of this uncommon visitation. This is contained in the "Courier,'' which was issued yesterday. There is an extensive selection of views, and the reproductions are of the finest type. There is also a wide range of other interesting pictures. Though provision was made to meet the extra demand, it will be necessary to make early application to secure a copy. Examiner, Wednesday 10 August 1921, page 5 STRIKING SNOW SCENES. SUPERB "COURIER" VIEWS. The town of Waratah has been practically "snowed up" for a week. The fall was quite phenomenal in that centre, and a graphic representation of its intensity will be given in the pictures that appear in the ''Courier" this week. A splendid series was obtained, and these will be published mostly in enlarged half-page form. Two of the views present the remarkable scene at the Mount Bischoff mine, where it was estimated that in one of the faces the snow was 15 feet deep. Another picture shows the mine office, which is surrounded by snow about three feet deep. The main street of the town provides an extraordinary spectacle, and this splendid half-page view will remain a unique one of Waratah. There is also a scene in Ritchie-street, and another one allows the sport enjoyed by the juveniles in building a huge "snow man." Another excellent record of the big fall in Hobart is contained in a picturesque full-page scene in the Domain. This is a very fine picture, and the most striking of all the Hobart views that has been published. Last, week there was so much demand for the "Courier'' snow pictures that even two editions of the paper could not supply it. This week the opportunity is presented of obtaining another magnificent selection.
