24.01.2022 Good evening everyone - I hope you are all keeping safe during our lockdown. Life will return to normal and we must keep soldiering on and looking out for each other even more than usual as Gowanbrae residents. As many of you know, Local Government Elections are just around the corner and we have heard from many people who want a change of the status quo (including investigating options to move Council!). The Gowanbrae Residents Group is apolitical and will support any and all local residents if they want to commit the next 4 years advocating for Morelands North West Ward as a Councillor. Please tell us the following - 1. What you want delivered in Gowanbrae over the next 4 years and; 2. How can we help support a Gowanbrae resident get the votes needed to represent our ward at Council?

22.01.2022 Big shout out to the Gowanbrae heroes who help rescue a stuck Husky! These are the kinds of neighbours that make this suburb an awesome place to live.

21.01.2022 One of our families in the Herald Sun today regarding their reaction to the extension of the Stage 4 COVID lockdown.

21.01.2022 My unit was vandalised either Sunday 21st June or Monday 22nd June at the end of the 46-54 Gowanbrae Drive set of units. Someone tried to break or steal the light fixtures and left them broken and hanging. If anyone has any CCTV footage that covers that area please send a private message to us! Has anyone else experienced something similar?

20.01.2022 As you all now, we are now in lockdown for the next 6 weeks. As a continuity of business strategy, we will be heavily emphasizing our newly created discussion forum as a way for residents to stay digitally connected with everyone else. Please join the Gowanbrae Residents Group Discussion Forum below and you will be able to interact with everyone else in our suburb from the comfort of your device. There are only 99 members so far in the discussion form while more than 1000 like our business page. Lets get those numbers up!

18.01.2022 Hi everyone, I was visited by a police officer canvassing our suburb due to reports of stolen mail! Things like gift cards, etc were lifted recently from local residents; please keep and eye of any mail theft and report it to the police so they can keep an accurate record!

16.01.2022 Dear Friends, We have just been notified by Moreland Council that due to the latest announcement of lockdowns, they have decided to cancel all events for at least 4 weeks. This means that our Gowanbrae Residents Group meeting this Thursday 2 July (tomorrow) will not go ahead. While this news is disappointing, we do want you to know that the GRG is still working in the background trying to advocate for our suburb and we hope to get back to regularly scheduled meetings as soon as possible. Please stay safe everyone and together we can get through this!

15.01.2022 Good evening everyone! Local Government Elections are still going ahead as planned with exception that all voting will be via mail. Please ensure you are enrolled to vote and/or your information is up-to-date. This is particularly important if you or someone in your family has recently turned 18, recently moved into the area or recently become an Australian Citizen. Friday 28 August at 4pm is the deadline to enrol to vote. https://www.vec.vic.gov.au//enrolling-for-local-council-el

15.01.2022 Apologies for the longer post but this is important. Today, we announced further action to slow of the spread of coronavirus the Suburban Testing Blitz. We kn...ow from the data that there are a number of known locations where active cases of community transmission is taking place and we are ramping up our interventions in these location so we dont let these numbers get out of hand. Keilor Downs and Broadmeadows have both been identified as two priority suburbs for blanket testing. Over the next three days, we will aim to test 50 per cent of all residents of these suburbs. That means 10,000 tests will be collected over the next three days in these suburbs alone. Other priority suburbs (in no particular order) include: Maidstone, Albanvale, Sunshine West, Hallam, Brunswick West, Fawkner, Reservoir and Pakenham. These suburbs have been selected due to the high rates of recent community transmission, the risk of undetected coronavirus circulating in the community and the risk of outbreaks occurring that threaten Victorias suppression strategy. The public health team will undertake a daily assessment of new cases and their location and identify if there has been any material change that may warrant expansion of the program to further suburbs. We are also increasing state-wide testing capacity to 25,000 tests a day to both increase testing in the other locations and maintain a baseline testing across the state to effectively monitor the spread of the virus. This means we can identify and isolate cases and then track and trace their contacts to contain the spread of the virus. To ensure cases are quickly tracked and traced and outbreaks contained, the contact tracing team and outbreak unit that is currently over 1,000 strong, will increase by over 350 staff. We are not announcing a further lockdown for these suburbs today. However, if after this Suburban Testing Blitz the Chief Health Officer remains concerned and community transmission continues to rise, we will have no choice but to consider that as a course of action. Remember, just because you dont live in one of these suburbs or live in regional Victoria, does not mean you can pretend this is over. Unlike some other states, Victoria is compact, and we see high levels of movement across the state with people going about their daily lives. While rates of transmission are low in Victoria generally. Were not out of the woods yet, and we must remain vigilant. As the Premier has said, what we do now will determine what comes next. This isnt easy. Its up to all of us to make this work.

14.01.2022 Good afternoon fellow Gardeners of Gowanbrae! I have updated the Community Garden Seed Bank with a Planting Guide (Ill attach as a separate post) and attached my trusty Diggers Club Companion Planting Guide to help us in our deliberations. For those of you who responded to my earlier post, I will be in contact with you early next week with a couple of suggested times for a Zoom call. If you havent already responded and would like to participate just let me know. Hope yo...u are all enjoying the lovely sunshine today. Stay Safe. Victoria.

14.01.2022 **** We have just been informed that the individual has been remanded in custody. News outlets will post further details shortly. **** It is understandable that people will have strong feelings of disgust at this individual and will also want to express their anger, shock and sadness. Expressions of violence do not help us as a Community deal with this. ... The actions of this man are not the actions of anyone but him. Please, for the sake of others who will be triggered by this incident, be mindful of your posts.

14.01.2022 I hope everyone is keeping well! Our June GRG meeting on Thursday 4 June will not be going ahead as the Gowanbrae Community Centre is still closed. However, we are hoping that we will be able to reconvene in July so we hope to see you in person then!

13.01.2022 Join Cr Oscar Yildiz, myself and Mary now until 5pm (or until stocks last) for a free Covid19 pack

13.01.2022 FREE COVID Kits (includes 5 surgical/protective masks and a 60ml bottle of sanitiser) to be handed out today at Oak Park Leisure Centre (Pascoe Vale Rd 1pm-4pm). Strictly 1 per Moreland resident and we ask you bring some form of ID please. Social distancing will be adhered to at all times. Tony Lotzof was moved when he overheard an elderly couple at Bakers Delight on Sunday say can we afford to buy bread and masks? Tony launched into action by establishing a GO Fund Me Page... - Give a Family Some Masks. https://gf.me/u/yg46i4 There are many in our communities that have lost jobs and are financially struggling to the extent that they may not be able to buy masks at exorbitant prices if they can find them. We understand the virus is contagious and hope to combat the rise in numbers by giving away FREE masks and sanitisers. This is about Australians giving back to our communities. This is not a Moreland Council event.

13.01.2022 This information has been forwarded to us.

09.01.2022 Missing dog! Please let Mimma know if you find Waffles.

09.01.2022 Please be aware that a woman has been seen stealing packages from front doors in Marigold Crescent at around 3.50pm. If you have anything stolen please contact Police.

09.01.2022 A letter from Moreland Council regarding a car park access gate which will be installed soon at the Gowanbrae Community Centre and prevent cars from accessing the car park from 10:30pm to 6:00am in order to address anti-social behaviour in the car park at night which the GRG has also heard from nearby residents. Please read and direct all questions, concerns and ideas to Bernadette Hetherington, Manager Community Wellbeing at [email protected]

08.01.2022 Hey Guys, We can confirm that one of our staff at our Highpoint Restaurant has tested positive for COVID-19. We value the health and safety of our team and cus...tomers above all else and wish them a speedy recovery. We can confirm that they last worked on Saturday 13 June. They started to feel unwell on the Monday, were tested on the Wednesday, and advised us immediately on Saturday 20 June when they received the confirmed positive test, and we immediately contacted the DHHS COVID-19 hotline in line with our strict protocols. We would like to reassure everyone that weve been working closely with DHHS and all 10 team members who worked that shift are now isolating at home, and the restaurant has received a deep clean. Weve drafted a short statement on our website: www.grilld.com.au/news/latest/highpoint-statement We continue to encourage anyone in the community feeling unwell to stay home, stay safe, and call the COVID-19 hotline 1800 675 398.

08.01.2022 We are still not sure if we can do regular Trick or Treating for 2020, and we know how much kids love dressing up for Halloween. So, we thought we would come up with something a bit different. We have made a virtual Trick or Treating! Pick up a free Halloween Treasure Hunt A5 Poster like the one posted here at the Convenience Store or Gowanbrae Pizza.... Stick it up outside your house on Halloween. When the QR Code is scanned a Halloween themed picture or video will open. Most smartphone cameras scan QR codes just open the link that appears. You can try it with the one we have posted here. Walk around the neighbourhood and see over 50 different pictures and videos! Halloween may not be the same - but it will still be fun and give the kids a reason to get into costume! We would like to thank Eco Wash N Go Laundromat @ Dinah Parade Shops for jumping onboard and organising this for us.

07.01.2022 Kind of sums things up perfectly....

06.01.2022 We need your help in getting our issues addressed by Moreland City Council. Our collective voice is much stronger if our residents actively participate in the conversations.moreland.vic.gov.au surveys and forums that are opened from time to time. This helps the Gowanbrae Residents Group in advocating for our suburb by being able to evidence a strong, community voice. PLEASE NOTE: we cannot forward your comments to Moreland City Council. If you don't respond via the link below, your voice will not be heard by Council. For those who have asked, we are hoping to be able to hold a Resident's Group meeting on the first Tuesday in March, we are just waiting on confirmation of our Community Centre booking. We will post when we are confirmed.

06.01.2022 Good news friends, in response to requests from residents, Deputy Mayor Cr Oscar Yildiz and I will be handing out FREE COVID Kits to residents this Saturday 1 August 2020 from 3PM-5PM at the Gowanbrae Shops. This kit includes 5 disposable masks, 100ml hand sanitizer and a Maxwell & Williams mug. The Gowanbrae Residents Group are proud to be involved. We have about 4 weeks of lock-down left and people need to be wearing masks in public or risk a fine. Please maintain social distancing of 1.5m when collecting these packs.

06.01.2022 Update below from Moreland Council on the Community Centre gate installation: "Works on the gate have just commenced and should be complete by 10 December. We will organise Open/Close of gates from the security company (6.00am 10.30pm with signs) from 17th December."

05.01.2022 A few zucchini’s from the Community Garden. The look like Christmas baubles. #harvest #communitygarden.

04.01.2022 IMPORTANT: We have just created a discussion forum for Gowanbrae Residents; however you need to join the group below in order to post, see other peoples posts (including it showing up on your news feed!) Its a work in progress but if there is traction in getting more Gowanbrae residents talking to each other, we will hopefully be able to transition to the group as our main discussion arena! Currently, as the GRG is set up as a Page and not a Group on Facebook, posts from the community can be hidden which can mean people miss out on knowing whats happening in the neighbourhood.

04.01.2022 Lost pug reported by a resident wondering around 136 Gowanbrae Drive! Please check if its yours or try and take care of it so it doesnt run into traffic!

03.01.2022 The GRG is considering applying for the Thrive Community Grants offered by Moreland Council. They are providing up to $5000 for projects addressing: Social isolation/connection Social cohesion Safety and wellbeing Digital inclusion... What are some of the things we could do as a community to help us get through the next 6 weeks to address the above points?? Find/join us in the Gowanbrae Residents Group Discussion Forum group to discuss! https://www.moreland.vic.gov.au//thrive-community-recove/

03.01.2022 The Ds souvlaki is back!

02.01.2022 We have had a request from Keti, who is considering moving here, asking what its like to live in Gowanbrae.

02.01.2022 More information from DHHS on Halloween for those of you who would like to put out lollies for Halloween. Skip down to the last paragraph for their recommendations. The Treasure Hunt is still on and you can pick up your poster from the Gowanbrae Milk Bar. We have also posted a list of all of the videos and pictures behind the QR codes on the Community Information Noticeboard in at the Shops.

02.01.2022 Received just now. "I am the girl who was assaulted yesterday in Gowanbrae. Friends of mine who live in the area have kept me updated regarding measures being taken and I think its incredible that you all have taken such initiative. The incident did not in any way make me fearful of the area, I know its so safe and Ill be walking there in no time. I wanted to let you know that the man was a Gowanbrae resident but he has since been arrested and charged so rest assured the ...area is even safer now that he is away and your residents dont need to fear him. I dont know who they were but I wanted to also reach out and say thank you so much to the residents who were there and helped me. I can never thank you enough." For those of you who helped, we want to add our thanks. You stepped in and helped where it was needed and we are a grateful community. We wish this very brave woman a speedy recovery.

01.01.2022 Attention Rutherglen Crescent residents: Moreland is introducing no stopping restrictions along Rutherglen Crescent. Theyll be putting in yellow kerbside lines to ensure a 3-metre-wide roadway is maintained for the length of the street. Please see the picture below. A letter will be sent to affected residents explaining this in more detail. The GRG lobbied hard to get Moreland Council to install 21 partially indented parking spaces for cars a few years ago although it seems... that these new restrictions are being implemented over the next 4-6 weeks due to ongoing complaints. Please remember there are also rules against stopping on a path, dividing strip or nature strip. The penalty for breaking either rule is $99.00. For any questions or concerns please contact the Team Leader Strategic and Sustainable Transport, Craig Griffiths, on 9240 1111 or email [email protected].
