02.01.2022 For all those that supported me and those that voted for me. Thank you. I door knocked every door I could and spoke to every person I could. Some doors were not accessible due to locked gates or dogs. Some were not home. I left a hand delivered card or flyers. In the last days dehydration and an effort to get out my handwritten letter, personally hand delivered by myself and supporters, led to me becoming gravely Ill. I soldiered on with back pain, until on Friday, I was forc...ed to go to Royal Darwin Emergency Department. They did a CT scan revealing a 1cm stone blocking my kidney. I asked if I could put off treatment. The Doctor’s advice was that the scan already showed distortion in the kidney and I needed an immediate operation to insert a ureteral stent. I was placed on the emergency surgery list. Sadly, we do not have a private urologist living in Darwin (we are too primitive). I sat out Election Day fasting in pain and agony until on Sunday lunchtime an opening eventuated in the theatre list (some may have noticed my absence). Johnston may be lost, but our efforts were not in vain, helping to show the CLP once again a credible political option for Territorians. I can’t say the same for Terry Mill’s surprise loss. I feel sorry for all those candidates that hitched their hopes to his political wagon. Sadly, I think they would have done better on their own. As for Labor they decided deception as usual. Last election they won off the back of saying they would stop Fracking. They didn’t. This time they solely relied on the fear of Covid19. Sadly, they plan to continue to loan over a million dollars a day to pay interest on their 8-billion-dollar debt. And borrow another 5 million a day to pay government workers. This is not due to Covid19. This was already terribly bad before Covid19. Labor have no plan to get us out of the Covid19 Crisis medically or economically. I will not go on as it will be seen as sour grapes. Just to say from now on they have more than two opposition members to contend with. What if they have another rash of defections and by-elections in the next 6 months and how long will Gunner remain Chief Minister? Time will tell.
