08.01.2022 This weekend I am excited to be the Family Law guest speaker at the BAD Sydney Crime Writers Festival, alongside investigatory journalist Jess Hill, discussing our national emergency: Domestic Abuse. I am a passionate advocate for social justice and law reform and am committed to brining an end to domestic abuse. My firm Gowland Legal has developed our experience and expertise in this area through our years of dedicated work in the Family Law sector and alongside domestic abu...se survivors. Jess Hill in her book See What You Made Me Do, puts perpetrators and the systems that enable them in the spotlight. Combining exhaustive research and riveting story telling See What You Made Me Do dismantles the flawed logic of victim blaming and radically rethinks how to confront the national crisis of domestic and family abuse. Jess and I will be talking about Family Law and domestic abuse to Nicole Abadee and exploring what can be done. The event is being held at the NSW State Library and our session will also be live-streamed on Zoom. To book tickets to come along, watch on Zoom or for more information head to https://www.badsydney.com/.

04.01.2022 The Lighthouse Project aims to improve outcomes for all families in the family law system by working to resolve more matters through alternative dispute resolution, as well as, identifying and supporting those at risk of family violence.

01.01.2022 The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact upon family law matters, with the Court's reporting an increase in due to family violence resulting from social restrictions and an increase in parenting applications resulting from border restrictions and the closure of supervised contact centres. The COVID-19 list has been created to identify urgent matters, and provide them immediate attention.
