24.01.2022 The importance of including children in discussions about the world around them. Talk and listen. Discuss. https://childmind.org//talking-to-kids-about-the-coronav/

22.01.2022 Children in Bugarri, our pre-school room, missing their peers, prepared small bags with loose parts and art and craft material to keep their friends at home occupied. Together with clay, the bags are ready to be picked up by our families/community in foyer or at the front door. Stay safe and be creative. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #community #creativeminds... #fromustoyou #staysafe See more

22.01.2022 The warmer weather paired with the smoke over Sydney in the last few weeks has been driving little creatures and insects into our rooms. In toddler room, Pigibilla, some of our educators were brave enough to capture a few of them. This allowed the children to lay foundations for further learning about animal biology and wildlife, which were the core of many lively discussions during the time we have had to stay mostly indoors. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #wildlife #animalbiology

21.01.2022 Using technology in early childhood can have many forms and one the children most benefit from is interactive, hands on experience. In Pigibilla room (2-3’s), our children are introduced to the magic of photography where they explore, learn and discover the wonders behind and in front of a lens. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #ictinearlychildhood #technologyinearlychildhood #toddlersandphotography

19.01.2022 Interest in loose parts and recycled materials provided for a great base for our excursion to the Reverse Garbage, where some of our pre-school children explored new ways various items may be used. Children talked about waste, whether it is food, toys or plastic, what we do with it and where it goes and also engaged in a hands on workshop creating boats. Further discussions on how we can reduce the environmental impact implementing the 5 R's - refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, recycle are continuing with many various sustainable projects within our learning environments. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #reversegarbage #sustainablefuture #looseparts

15.01.2022 Last week we celebrated an end of an eventful year full of learning and achievements at Gowrie Erskineville with our children and families. We met for an afternoon BBQ in an environment that was filled with joy, happiness and community connections. We shared delicious food and enjoyed the festive spirit as we marked an end of an era for children transitioning to school, beginning of an era for families joining Gowrie and strengthening relationships with all current families. ...We thank all our families for continuous support and contributions to our community. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #communitylife #endofyearcelebration

09.01.2022 Gowrie NSW is turning 80! Gowrie NSW Erskineville began celebrations of our 80th birthday this week and was marked by re-erecting historical letters to the front of the building. These were removed in the past and as part of celebrating 80 years of caring for, and educating children, we felt there was a strong historical significance in paying tribute to the ongoing contributions to the richness of early childhood education by returning the letters to their previous location.... The letters were tarnished with age and with the support of our Erskineville families who polished and returned the letters, we managed to put a shiny bit of our history back. #gowrieerskineville #gowriensw #localhistory #erskinevillehistory #ladygowrie #earlychildhoodeducation #localcommunity

09.01.2022 Our Tumbalong space (2-3 years) encourages children to make decisions by providing opportunities to engage in self-instructed learning. Children are able to make decisions on their environment and experiences within their learning spaces based on their interests and abilities. Children are naturally curious and educators aim to empower children with the skills to make choices by providing the option to choose experiences within their individual curriculum. This allows for children to build confidence, have a more positive self-esteem and have a responsibility for their education and be lifelong learners. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #empoweringchildren #learningthroughplay

09.01.2022 Celebrating birthdays at Gowrie Erskineville is an event full of joy and happiness that is accompanied by Jimmy, our cook's, special fruit masterpiece that highlights healthy eating. Friendships and relationships between children in our Tumbalong room (1-2 year old) are strengthened by all coming together for this event that celebrates sense of belonging to our community at Gowrie Erskineville. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #community #happybirthday #healthyeating

08.01.2022 Flopsy, our centre bunny had a house built for him by children in Piggi-billa and Buggari rooms. Providing a mirror sparked questions whether Flopsy had seen himself before, what he may be thinking and whether the children remember seeing themselves in the mirror for the very first time. Thinking about what someone else may be thinking, especially if that someone else does not communicate with words, provides opportunities for people to look deeper at the thinker, and think a little differently too. #gowrieerskineville #centrepet #youngthinkers

06.01.2022 Providing children with loose parts and natural resources promotes development of many skills such as creativity, imagination, communication and problem solving. Children in Bugarri room have been talking about going to the beach, camping or even going on an airplane during their holidays. While using cardboard boxes, rocks, sticks and a few mats, children created their own holiday camping space in our outdoor area. Vygotsky believed in the sociocultural theory that childr...en learn actively and through hands-on experiences, and that social interactions have a pivotal role in child’s cognitive development. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #looseparts #outdoorprogram #imagination #creativity

05.01.2022 Everyday, we are very fortunate to look up to an elegant Jacaranda tree that stands very tall above our outdoor area in Mari-Gilli. At the moment, the purple, bell-shaped blooms are flowering and covering the canopy. Our infants and toddlers have been observing the tree with a sense of wonder and awe as the branches sway in the wind and the flowers float down towards us. Displaying their natural curiosity, the children have been enjoying picking these up and rubbing the soft ...petals in between their fingers, studying the flowers using their touch and sight. Children are innate scientists, they love to experience the outdoors using their senses. Our natural environment at Gowrie provides countless opportunities for discovery as the children explore with a developing sense of appreciation for the natural environment. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #outdoorplay #jacarandatree #naturalenvironment See more

04.01.2022 This week our Bugarri children discovered that the bamboo poles that were protecting some plants in the outdoor playspace had been knocked down. The children suggested it may have been due to the wind or storm the evening before. Educators discussed with the children other ways that they could protect the plants as the poles were originally installed to stop other children from walking over the plants. It was agreed that signage may help and educators supported the children's... literacy and creativity to design and draw some signage as a visual aid to prevent others from walking over the growing plants. Children learn about the environment by being involved and interacting with it. With educator support and encouragement in quality child-environment interactions, children are able to embrace respect, responsibility and understand cause and effect. #gowriensw #gowrieerskineville #teachingmoments See more
