25.01.2022 Gowrie Western Australia recognises, respects, and celebrates the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing cultures on the planet

24.01.2022 CELEBRATING 80 YEARS This morning our centres celebrated 80 brilliant years with their children and families. At Karawara, our beautiful children and wonderful families celebrated with a morning of fantastic fun, great games and exciting experiences. Tasty treats, morning tea, messy play, pass the parcel and a movie filled the morning, but not as much as the smiles and joy did. Thank you to the many families who joined us to mark this very special occasion. We look forward to the next 80 years of passionately educating, supporting children's learning and fostering children's growth.

24.01.2022 'Early Childhood Educators' Day recognises and celebrates the work of Australia's educators in early learning services for their wonderful contribution to the wellbeing and healthy development of the young children in their care.' Thank you to our dedicated Educators at Gowrie Western Australia, who nurture the pivotal early learning journeys of the children we are entrusted with at our services. Thank you for inspiring our children, fostering their growth, championing their development and encouraging them to confidently blossom. We appreciate your hard work. As the African proverb says, it takes a village to raise a child, and we are thankful for our village. #LoveMyECE #EarlyChildhoodEducatorsDay

24.01.2022 We love afternoon activities in the community garden! This afternoon, our Djilba learners are enjoying the fresh air as they explore their senses through an exciting range of messy play stations. They’re squishing goop with their strong fingers, smelling scents with their little noses, looking at colours and shapes with their big bright eyes and exploring all sorts of textures! What a great afternoon.

23.01.2022 Recently, our Kewdale friends had the opportunity to participate in some great colour recognition and colour mixing experiences. During the activity, the children used their developing language and communication skills, memory, fine motor skills and gross motor skills to complete various elements and tasks. The childrens sensory skills were also developed and their creativity shone.

23.01.2022 This super quick and easy DIY chalk paint is sure to be a hit! It takes just moments to create and it dries to an exciting chalky texture! Painting encourages children to develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and fosters the growth of creativity, self-confidence and emotions. Try out this great DIY chalk paint and enjoy some time in the beautiful outdoors. It washes right off the pavement, too!... Materials (per colour) - 1 tablespoon cornstarch - 2 tablespoons water - Food colouring Method 1. Add water to cornstarch and stir until combined 2. Add food colouring 3. Paint a masterpiece on the pavement 4. Watch it dry!

21.01.2022 ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE. 2020's theme recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. NAIDOC Week is a profoundly important week for Australia and it acknowledges our nation’s history and First Nations ...people. During this time, we celebrate the culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Across our centres, our children partook in a variety of activities and experiences to continue and begin their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. This included respectfully participating in Aboriginal sand art and symbol experiences, engaging in Indigenous art activities with natural resources from our land, recognising and celebrating the Aboriginal flag through various materials and introducing the colours of the Aboriginal flag to our youngest learners. Always was, always will be.

20.01.2022 When children pretend, theyre using their imaginations to move beyond the bounds of reality. A stick can be a magic wand. A sock can be a puppet. A small child can be a superhero. Fred Rogers

19.01.2022 'R U OK Day is a national day of action when Australians are reminded that EVERY DAY is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with lifes ups and downs. THERE'S MORE TO SAY AFTER R U OK? 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. You dont have to be an expert to keep the conversation going ...when someone says theyre not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before theyre in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life.' Learn what to say after R U OK? at https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

14.01.2022 Our gorgeous children LOVE learning and we LOVE watching them learn through play. Their smiling faces, giggles and cheers brighten our day each and every day. The Bunuru and Makuru ourdoor space recently got a makeover, with a fresh new sandpit to explore and bright turf that's soft on the children's knees, hands and feet while they develop their motor skills to crawl and walk. A great new wooden kitchen in the sandpit provides a new spot to learn through play, too. These fresh updates have provided a bright new space for the children to explore and continue their love of learning in.

14.01.2022 To all the heroes, adventurers, story-tellers and singers of song, both biological and not, Happy Father's Day

14.01.2022 The children at Kewdale adore their expansive outdoor environments. The big spaces, beautiful trees and exciting range of equipment makes learning outside great fun! The children have the opportunity to run, jump and climb as they learn and explore, the sunlight boost their concentration and happiness, and the dose of vitamin D helps their minds and bodies to grow. Learning in outdoor environments also helps the children to develop their social skills, connect with nature and acquire a sense of calmness.

13.01.2022 On Tuesday 1 September, Gowrie Karawara was thrilled to be visited by Professor Fiona Stanley AO, Nicola Forrest AO and Hon Jay Weatherill, to launch Minderoo Foundation's initiative - Thrive By Five campaign. This very special visit provided opportunity for our Gowrie team to show our esteemed visitors the wonderful care and education provided by Gowrie WA, and for some of our superstars (big and little) to make it to the evening news on many channels It was a privilege and a pleasure to host the highly regarded visitors during a very memorbale week leading up to our 80th birthday. If you didnt see the story we have a copy right here

12.01.2022 As part of Nature Play Week, our brilliant Borang learners at Kewdale brought flowers and leaves from their own gardens into the centre to share with their friends. After a discussion on the colours, textures, scents and features of the flora, the flora was used in a wonderful art activity. The magic of still life paintings is that they can show us a new way of looking at the ordinary objects around us. Once they are placed into a specific arrangement and then captured - the objects take on a whole new meaning. Art Is Fun

11.01.2022 There's now only two sleeps until something special. Have you figured out what it is yet? Here's another clue for you: What goes up but never comes down?

11.01.2022 Today our friends at Nedlands had their wonderful new Friendship Seat delivered! Our learners helped their educators choose a spectacular space for their friendship seat and asked to add cosy cushions. Friendship Seats provide a special spot for children to sit on when they feel like they need to talk to someone, or they need a friend. Educators and other children will be able to recognise the child's need for support and comforting.

09.01.2022 Children's Week, which ran from October 24 to November 1, is a time dedicated to recognising and celebrating children, a reminder of our responsibilities to advocate for children and their right to a positive childhood, and a promotion of the Rights of the Child as proclaimed by the United Nations in 1954. Our centres celebrated Children's Week by providing the children with opportunities to immerse themselves in their favourite activities, experiences that bring them joy,... and interactions that make them feel confident, safe and happy. Our children enjoyed exciting excursions, expressed their captivating creativity through art and sensory experiences, dressed up and used their wonderful imaginations to play and spent valuable time socialising and connecting with their peers. Whilst Gowrie aims to consistently provide these positive and nurturing experiences at all times, Children's Week is a wonderful opportunity to reflect and strive for improvement.

07.01.2022 The children in the Koorlong learning studio had a fantastic time celebrating Science Week last week. Here, the children created their very own little weather worlds! Using oil, water, shaving foam and blue food colouring the children made rain. The children looked closely to observe their experiment, shared in discussions and expressed their excitement. Ingredients ... - 2 cups peeled and grated carrots - cup honey - 1 cup plain Greek yogurt - cup melted coconut oil or extra-virgin olive oil - 2 eggs - 1 cups whole wheat flour - 1 teaspoons baking powder - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon - teaspoon baking soda - teaspoon ground ginger - teaspoon ground nutmeg - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Add if desired - cup raisins - cup chopped walnuts - Cream cheese frosting Method 1. Preheat oven to 220 degrees Celsius. If necessary, grease your cupcake tin. 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, ginger and nutmeg. Blend well with a whisk. In a separate bowl, toss the raisins (if using) with 1 teaspoon flour so they dont stick together. Add the grated carrots, chopped walnuts (if using) and floured raisins to the other ingredients and stir to combine. 3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the coconut oil and honey and beat together with a whisk. Add the eggs and beat well, then add the yogurt and vanilla and mix well. (If the coconut oil solidifies in contact with cold ingredients, gently warm the mixture in the microwave in 30 second bursts.) 4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix with a big spoon, just until combined. Divide the batter evenly between the cupcake cups. 5. Bake muffins for 15 minutes, or until the muffins are golden on top and a toothpick inserted into a muffin comes out clean. Makes 12. Recipe adapted from Cookie and Kate recipe.
