25.01.2022 Our client Jordan had bloods run for Jasper her 11yo cat today as a part of his annual vaccination and health exam. Did you know as many as 3 out of 10 cats develop chronic kidney issues as they get older? Having blood work done gives us the best chance possible at early detection of any health issues that can arise as your cat enters their senior years.... Thankfully Jasper is a picture of health and his blood results all came back within normal values!

23.01.2022 Most of our staff members own animals who have been through trauma. Meet some very special pets who are owned by our compassionate staff... Max the whippet is owned by our nurse, Emma. He sadly lost his leg after he was hit by a car. Fergie the cat is owned by our vet, Molly. She came in through a rescue organisation needing her leg amputated from a bad break. Molly ended up adopting her.... Homer the mastiff is owned by our vet, Bridie. He recently lost his leg in his battle with cancer. Pirate the terrier is owned by our nurse, Tegan. He lost his eye after he was mauled by another dog. These amazing animals are missing parts of their bodies, though it just means they have a lot of extra love to give Having personal experience with our own pet’s trauma certainly helps when comforting clients going through a similar situation. We love all our patients as if they are our own!

Our veterinary hospital has been an integral part of our local community for years. In that time, we have helped thousands of our client’s cats & dogs, rabbits & guinea pigs, sheep, cattle, birds, horses and even a few snakes. Being so strongly integrated with our local community is important to us and our clients. Our customers know by ex...perience that they can rely on us for sound advice and treatment options and that their pet is in the very best hands with our team. Our practice relies heavily on our nursing staff and they are a very valuable and integral part of the practice. We have regular staff training, annual reviews, and mentoring. Apart from the usual nursing duties, our nurses participate in procedures with lots of hands on duties which include IV catheter placement, radiology, dentistry, taking blood for pathology, surgical assistance, etc. We are ideally seeking somebody who has: Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing- this is preferred but not essential if experience is well established. A friendly and professional manner. Sound knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing procedures. Confidence in monitoring anaesthesia. Excellent phone manner, communication and customer service skills. Pride in your work. The hours are full time (38hrs a week) and includes rotated Saturday shifts. We are closed on Sundays. 18.01.2022 Check out the size of Nugget’s paws! Nugget the neopolitan mastiff came in to see Dr Bridie for his puppy vaccinations. This little guy has a lot of growing to do! He is already quite a big 15kg at 10 weeks of age, but will be expected to mature 65-75kg as an adult!... Dr Bridie is a huge fan of mastiffs! This happy young man certainly made her day

17.01.2022 Dr Molly has been getting all the extra cute ones lately! This is sweet Sophie, a staffy x who is currently in care with Forever Friends Animal Rescue. Sophie has a cleft palate and stunted growth, she is a teenie little 1.6kg! Her breed is usually 5-6kg by this age.... She is so incredibly special and such a happy little soul

17.01.2022 Dr Molly is pictured here with Hattie, who had to have her leg amputated when she was 6 weeks old and a tiny 600grams. Hattie was found in Melbourne with a badly broken leg, and was taken in by Forever Friends Animal Rescue. It was suspected that she was hit by a car. She was brought into theatre with Dr Molly at Golden Plains Animal Hospital in an attempt to save the leg with orthopaedic surgery.... When the incision was made it was discovered that the fracture was more likely caused by an adult cat bite, which had lead to localised infection. Unfortunately with the infection, Hattie’s leg could not be saved. Her recovery was touch and go, but she was nursed through by one of the experienced rescue group carers and has been doing very well ever since. Today, 3 weeks post amputation, Hattie came back in to be desexed. Dr Molly was thrilled to see how well she was doing!

16.01.2022 This is the uterus of a young cat who was booked in for a routine desexing. The cat was found to have a cystic ovary. If not removed, this could have created significant behavioural changes in the cat.... As you can see the cystic ovary is approximately 5 times the size of the healthy ovary. Kitty will be feeling much better now it has been removed!

14.01.2022 Darling Daphne was outside enjoying her Saturday when her owners noticed her face was puffing up. Her owners quickly rushed her into see us by which time she had an allergic reaction over her face and legs. Daphne was very brave for her needles and is now on the mend! We hope you enjoy the before and after photos as much as we enjoyed meeting her.

12.01.2022 Spring has arrived, and with the warm weather we have already begun to see snakes. If your pet has been bitten, it is important to call your vet and make your way in immediately. Snake bites are always treated straight away by staff, however calling in first allows us to prepare for your arrival. Keep your pet still and calm, and carry them to avoid movement. A pressure bandage can be applied to the bite wound if possible, however do not attempt to wash or dress the wound.... If seen promptly we generally have a lot of success treating snake bites. However it can become a long and costly process if there is delay in diagnosis and treatment. Our clinic recommends having your pet insured for snake bites. Accident cover can be quite affordable. 11.01.2022 Did you know that puppies need to be wormed more often than adult dogs? They should be wormed every 2 weeks until they are 3 months old, then every month until they are 6 months old. After they are 6 months old they are treated as an adult, and wormed every 3 months!

09.01.2022 There is no need to stress about putting your senior pet under general anaesthetic! We perform a thorough veterinary exam upon admission and offer in house pre anaesthetic bloods, this assesses your pet’s general health. It also tells us how well their kidney and liver are functioning, which is how the anaesthetics are processed by the body. ... All of our patients are monitored with an ECG, pulse oximeter, blood pressure monitor and are supported by IV fluids during surgery The beautiful 11 year old Baz, had a dental today. His exam and pre anaesthetic bloods told us that he everything was well and functioning normally. He had a good anaesthetic and smooth recovery. 08.01.2022 Pirate is a 3 year old tenterfield terrier mix who was mauled when he was a little puppy, resulting in the loss of an eye and damage to his face. He belongs to our nurse Tegan, who adopted him when his breeder couldn’t afford his treatment. Pirate has had multiple surgeries to correct his face after the attack, especially on his remaining eyelid, however this was never able to be completely closed. Specialists Dr Heather Kaese and Dr Matt Sanders from Animal Eye Care came down to our hospital to perform corrective surgery on Pirate, and were able to successfully close his torn eyelid. He is a lot more comfortable now!

07.01.2022 Are your pet’s microchip details up to date? With Christmas and New Years coming up, many owners will be away on holidays. Whether you take your pet with you or not, please ensure their microchip details are up to date in case they become lost.... Unfortunately, if microchip details are not up to date, the local council takes control of the animal until the owner is located. With public holidays coming up, your pet could possibly be detained for days until you are located. Checking microchip details is as simple as logging into your register online. Please contact us if you don’t know which company your pet is registered with, or even if you don’t know their microchip number. 07.01.2022 ***AVIAN INFLUENZA*** As many of you would have already seen there has been an outbreak of Avian Influenza (H7N7), also known as Bird Flu, detected within the Region. Although this is a zoonotic disease, meaning humans can contract it too, there is very low risk of disease in the general population. People who may contract the disease are those working in close contact with an infected flock. The government has put some controls on movement of birds and any equipment/machine...ry used around birds to help minimise the risk of spread. This means birds and equipment should not be moved off the premises if within the control zones. Things to look out for in birds are mostly respiratory signs- coughing, sneezing, rattles in the chest etc. as well as a decrease in egg production or sudden death, often of large numbers of birds in a population. However, diarrhoea may also occur less commonly. Clinical signs in humans are flu-like symptoms. Should you be at all concerned about the potential for a case on your property, or have any birds pass away suddenly please contact the 24 hour Animal Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888, Agriculture Victoria animal health staff or your local vet. There was no microchip found when scanned and no other identification items.
