25.01.2022 For those of you who used to be contributors in the old double reed list ....the Bulletin board is still functional....http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/list.html?f=10

25.01.2022 https://play.spotify.com/artist/6ik9HmpB2m2jyWUi6p0sjU Recently deceased, but this man's oboe playing I love. He was a teacher of Albrecht Mayer amongst others. His playing reminds me somewhat of Karl Steins. This is the type of sound I love the best.

24.01.2022 Some good advice posted on another page ..... https://healthyoboist.wordpress.com//self-treatment-myofa/

23.01.2022 https://play.spotify.com/track/7b7hLZYxTyB2JDSn2c2iuX The great Karl Steins on oboe. One of my teachers Ronald Webb learned from him.

23.01.2022 Now this to me is a lovely performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOwqkJvuj20

21.01.2022 This CD of one of my favourite oboists, Pauline Oostenrijk is heartily recommended.; One of the best recordings of the Blake songs I have heard...but everything on the disc is superb. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp

21.01.2022 One of the sad things is that over the last few years, I have sent my teaching flyer and business card to over 60 schools music departments in travelable to schools in my area, and only one - which was a private music institution actually had the decency to respond or inquire. I can understand if there is not the demand for an oboe teacher in Sydney's South west, but where is the common courtesy? A simple reply by letter, email or phone call....Is it too much to ask?

21.01.2022 I am taking bookings now for students for 2016, limited spaces available.

21.01.2022 I’m mortified hearing this Waitangi morning. Concert FM is the sole broadcasting entity devoted to classical music, and has brought rich programming to New Zeal...anders for generations. The emotional, cognitive, intellectual, and physically therapeutic benefits of listening to classical music are well documented in a vast range of academic research papers going back decades. It’s a rich artform that can be traced back hundreds of years. It has consoled, enriched, healed, and transformed the lives of hundreds of millions of human beings through wars, hardship, turnoil, social unrest, and in peacetime has contributed greatly to the purr of daily life and the fostering of community and togetherness. Concert FM is a true national treasure, with wonderful staff, presenters, interviewees, and a solid listener base. It has always been a particular comfort to the lonely, the socially isolated, the elderly, and the broken. Given this government has made much noise about transforming the care of the vulnerable sections of the community, in particular the mentally ill, I would have thought there would be at least some government ministers educated enough to be aware of the vital importance in preserving our one beautiful classical music channel. The broadcasting minister ought to look abroad and see how socially sophisticated, cohesive, developed nations support their classical music stations. This must be fought vigorously. This is election year. Strong guarantees must be sought from government that Concert FM will be retained, its funding kept truly sustainable well into the future. It is time to lobby, and hard. In an age of countless radio stations dedicated to ‘popular’ yet transient rock, pop and the like, banal talk back radio full of hot heads and trite discourse and superficial debate, Concert FM is an oasis for a broad cross section of New Zealanders who crave broadcasting with substance, depth, and mana. We must not see it downgraded.

21.01.2022 There mus be more people wanting to learn oboe in Sydney's South West. I do have vacancies at the moment and cane available for those who want to buy

20.01.2022 For anyone in Christchurch that is looking for a good orcherstra to play in, I recommend this enthusiastic group. I played with them for 3-4 years and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They commission and champion works by local composers and this is always an important part of their concerts. Mark Hodgkinson is a very experienced and committed musician and you will experience some great music making. http://www.canterburyphilharmonia.org.nz/

19.01.2022 Here's a job I just completed of a Oboe case that was made around 1910. I forgot to take before shots but heres the after repairs shots.

18.01.2022 Take a listen to this lady, playing one of my very favourite pieces.. She plays it beautifully. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLnTt5Ux3u4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jlq70vJkuow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oaGdb30FdQ... I only hope that I can play it as well....there are challenges!!!

17.01.2022 If anyone can help me with this....I would be so grateful - from an old electric gouging machine from 1960s Czecholsovakia... The Vee belts are made in the same way a car belt is made ( some sort of thread inside vulcanised rubber), but smaller. The diameter if measuring from the outside is 63mm and from the inside 55 mm. If you cut one and lay it out lengthwise ( this is often the way the manufacturer measures) that is 19 cm. The upper width is 5 mm and the lower widt...h is 3.5 mm or thereabouts. I can adjust the tension of the belt on the machine in fact the reason why I have few belts (only 2 left) is that I did not have the tension high enough, and the belt was slipping on the pulley, got hot and then disintegrated.at first I thought this was happening because the belts were so old. I have searched online quite a lot, and also tried hobby places online without any success. Many did not even bother getting back to me. Probably because I dont need a great number of them. See more

17.01.2022 It has been fantastic to see so many #Howarth #student #oboes being picked up in the last month - ready for a big 2017. And why wouldn't you, when they look like this? #woodwind #s50 #oboe #blackwood

16.01.2022 Did minor changes on my website including a new testimonial from a student

16.01.2022 Please do NOT give away the answer. Thanks! facebook.com/audreylovesparis

14.01.2022 Does anyone have the music for Geoffrey Hansons oboe Concerto ( piano reduction instead of string parts are fine). If so, please let me know. Thanks

14.01.2022 Now I know why I am a bit odd....A bit of a giggle - not to be taken seriously.. http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Oboe

13.01.2022 Looking for students for next year. Also wishing to start a wind Octet in the Campbelltown/Liverpool/Fairfield area - Need Clarinets, horns and bassoons.

13.01.2022 If anyone in the Sydney area has lost a Buffet Greenline oboe, then its on auction with Pickles...described as a clarinet http://www.pickles.com.au//Clarinet--Buffet-Mode/202419594 Auction ends Friday 4/316

11.01.2022 THis is my 1891 Loree - You many need to adjust your volume

11.01.2022 One of the endless frustrations as a teacher is that very seldom a week goes by that one doesnt have cancellations sue to illness and other committments. Some weeks there are no students. If it happens often, it does impact quite severely on progress.

07.01.2022 Received my Louis Cor Anglais from Richard Craig today - It is a lovely old instrument and plays very well indeed. Heartily recommend Richard Craig Woodwind for sale or service of oboes and cor Anglais. Their service is exemplary. http://richardcraig.com.au/

06.01.2022 The Emily Pailthorpe version of it is very fine too, as is David Cowley. I heard Daniel Stolper play it in Australia about 36 years ago and never forgot that performance either.

06.01.2022 Does anyone have the music for Geoffrey Hanson's oboe Concerto ( piano reduction instead of string parts are fine). If so, please let me know. Thanks

05.01.2022 As I get older I find it hard to practise on hot days....about 30 degrees in my room at the moment - so I can only do very short bursts.

05.01.2022 I have recently purchased an oboe that I suspect is in the old high pitch ( around A=452). it is a couple of cm shorter than my more modern instrument. Does anyone on the list have any suggestions as to how I may be either able to convert said oboe to A=440, or be able to play at that pitch without converting. It is a Loree from the 1890s and otherwise plays well.

04.01.2022 Please do NOT give away the answer. Thanks!

03.01.2022 Cane and lessons still available

03.01.2022 New students always welcome
