23.01.2022 2020 - 58th Gladstone Harbour Festival cancelled With a heavy heart, Gladstone Festival and Events regret to advise the community, the 58th Gladstone Harbour Fe...stival has been cancelled. This decision has been made in line with the Federal Government and the Chief Medical Officer’s advice that ‘non-essential gatherings’ of more than 500 people should be cancelled. Our association appreciates there will be many people in our community who will be disappointed and upset by this decision but this unprecedented, world-wide crisis demands that measures be put in place to slow the community spread of Covid-19. The safety and wellbeing of our community is of paramount importance and is our primary motivation for reaching this decision. Our staff and volunteer committee are devastated especially at this time when the 2020 Festival was at an advanced planning stage. But as our entire community confronts this crisis together we look positively towards the future and will commence planning of the 2021 Harbour Festival. 19.01.2022 $80M Port project approved From The Gladstone Observer: THE Federal Government has granted conditional approval for Gladstone Ports Corporation's application t...o dredge 800,000 cubic metres in the Gladstone Harbour. Two years after applications were lodged, the $80million Clinton Vessel Interaction Project has been given approval with 20 conditions by the Department of Environment and Energy. Acting chief executive Craig Walker said the conditional approval marked another milestone for the project. Currently, Capesize vessels with drafts of more than 14m leaving Wiggins Island Coal Terminal have to pass within 80m of ships berthed at the RG Tanna Coal Terminal. The water displaced by the passing ship can break mooring lines, or in the extreme, cause damage to ships.
