25.01.2022 Before we all went into Stage 4 lockdown Nadine from our volunteer group had joined forces during a walk with Anna from Abbotsford Riverbankers who are rehabilitating and revegetating the area along the river. Shes learnt so much from Anna through: - Observing the existing landscape and the new planted edible and non-edible indigenous plant species.... - Listening to the new attracted birds in the area as the Bellbird and other insects. - Doing through gently removing weeds in accordance with the Bradley method that provides the least ground disturbance and helps Nature heal itself. She even picked angled onions (a noxious but edible weed) that she cooked with. - Sharing her knowledge about the evolution of the existing area, the indigenous planting and the challenges. - Appreciating how we can work with Nature and not against it. As global warming is showing us, we cannot try to bend Nature to our will without consequences. #breakfreestonnington #weareinthistogether

24.01.2022 SIGN THE OPEN LETTER! Link below Repost from @fridaysforfuture.aus ................ As the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic subsides in Australia, a multibillion-dollar economic recovery plan will be put into place by our federal government that is increasingly looking towards fossil fuel projects to stimulate the economy. Experts have told us that green industries, and transitioning to a renewable energy grid will create tens of thousands of clean jobs for our fellow Australians, yet our government wants to fund destructive fossil fuel projects. The Green Recovery open letter aims to ensure that the government know that we do not want fossil fuel projects, expansions, bailouts and subsidies as well as rollbacks of environmental regulations that favour fossil fuel projects, to be a part of the federal governments post-coronavirus stimulus package while encouraging transparent investment into creating jobs in renewable energy. Sign our petition to the Australian government for a Green Recovery Covid-19 response. 21.01.2022 REPOST Greenpeace Australia Pacific Great news. The organisation that runs our electricity network, AEMO, has just released a report showing the transition to a renewable powered energy system is now inevitable. A few interesting facts. The report:... anticipates a grid powered by up to 94.2% renewables by 2040. shows the fastest transition delivers $40 billion in benefits to the Australian economy including lower fuel costs, downward pressure on power prices, and increased competition. demonstrates that gas wont be able to compete on price with battery storage Our role is now to make this transition faster and fairer. Bring it on! -- Read more here: https://www.smh.com.au//new-grid-report-forecasts-rapid-tr

20.01.2022 Repost from @uselessplastic on Instagram ------------------------------------ Plastic has been around since the 1920s. It was popularized in the 1960s. It hasnt even been 100 years since polyethylene was first created. Yet, the problems are prominent and drastic. Its everywhere. Every piece of plastic ever made still exists somewhere on earth. Turn your plastic daily goods into sustainable alternatives. Be a part of the change!! ... Repost from @netzerocompany. 13.01.2022 If energy giant AGL gets their way, Westernport Bay will change from a wetland sanctuary to one of Australias biggest gas import terminals, located at Crib Point. This area covers a huge part of our Victorian coastline, including Phillip Island and as well as being a huge tourist destination, is home to Australian fur seals, Humpback and Southern Right Whales, dolphins and a wide range of migratory birds. Submissions opposing this close next Wednesday 26th August.... To make it really easy, Environment Victoria has created a submission template (https://environmentvictoria.org.au/build-submission-2/ ) that takes 2 minutes to fill out. Just answer 8 quick questions, and a draft letter will be automatically generated for you to review and hit SEND. Please share this with friends and family to help protect our environment from this dirty and unnecessary fossil fuel polluting gas project. You can read more from Environment Victoria (https://environmentvictoria.org.au//stop-agls-dirty-gas-p/)

05.01.2022 Source: Greenpeace Australia Pacific ......... Burning fossil fuels is the biggest source of air pollution globally ... Australias oldest and dirtiest power station after Liddell, Vales Point, has recorded an alarming three-fold increase in toxic air pollution. Worse still, the company has admitted that it failed to maintain a pollution filter at the power station. Vales Points pollution license requires it to keep its equipment maintained. We must ensure the NSW Environmental Protection Agency acts on the advice of leading health experts to put the health of our communities first by forcing them to adopt best practice pollution controls now.
