15.01.2022 10 BASIC FOOTBALL COACHING PRINCIPLES PRINCIPLE 1 - Know your X's and O's: Players always respect a coach who can step up to the blackboard and detail the offensive and defensive schemes that he/she intends to use that season.... PRINCIPLE 2 - Set deadlines and discipline yourself: Be organised when you meet with the players and assistant coaches. Set your agenda in advance; what you expect from your assistants and how you will communicate the direction you want them to take. Always be in control of everything you say and do and demonstrate strong leadership skills in organisation, presentation, and motivation. PRINCIPLE 3 - Get your players' attention: Be precise in setting team goals and empowering your players to set attainable personal goals and team goals. These goals should be the joint handy-work of the head coach, assistant coach(es), and players, and should be written down. PRINCIPLE 4 - Energize your assistant coaches: It is essential to prepare a written job description for each assistant coach. Assistants must have a clear cut understanding of their job in order to run with it. Without such direction from the head coach, they will always be wondering what is expected of them. Allow the coaches to participate in the practice planning and to provide input in game strategies. PRINCIPLE 5 - Learn to say NO: Learn how to say No to many of the demands made upon you. Set the time for all appointments and make sure to always be there. This applies to practices, games, travel, recruiting, budgeting, coaches meetings, film study, and scheduling. PRINCIPLE 6 - Determine your own weaknesses and work on them: Study films, attend clinics, and work with other coaches to strengthen your skills as a technician. PRINCIPLE 7 - Determine your own style of coaching: Always strive to be yourself, avoiding cliché’s and borrowed mannerisms. Players admire and respect coaches who can "Talk-the-talk and Walk-the-walk," who never pretend to be something they’re clearly not. PRINCIPLE 8 - Be a players' coach first: Develop a connection between you and the players. Be someone the players can trust and to whom they can come for either personal or team matters. Always tell it the way it is. The truth may sometimes hurt a little, but it wins trust. PRINCIPLE 9 - Motivate, motivate, motivate: Great individual and team morale is essential in football, and players have to be highly motivated to play it well. PRINCIPLE 10 - Do not read your press clippings: Get up each day with the idea that you have this great opportunity to mold a young man's life through football, maybe mold a future leader in community, state, and country.

09.01.2022 For those not aware, this is bad for a helmet. It has nothing to do with respect, but with player safety. Sitting on a helmet can cause stress cracks and elongation of the shell penetrations (screw holes where you attach the facemask). Either of these conditions renders a helmet unfit for use. A helmet that is unfit for use is not fit for protecting your head.

08.01.2022 Today was the first of the Beginning HC Forums presented by lead coaches Steve Box, Luke Chapman and Ben Sinapati. A handful of GQ rookie coaches spent a couple of hours today with their more experienced colleagues for an informal Q&A session and free-form discussions ranging from team preparation, personnel management, post-game responsibilities and much more. All involved indicated the concept worked well and was well received by the participants. Thank you to Coaches Box, ...Chapman and Sinapati for making yourselves available. Thank you to the new coaches that took part in broadening their knowledge for the upcoming season and to LCGFC for making Hyde Park available to us. This forum is easy to organise so if there is interest in the GQFA hosting another please let us know. Thanks

02.01.2022 The time is nearly upon us. The Sunbowl is the annual showcase of Gridiron Queensland and its affiliated Clubs. To demonstrate to the football community that ou...r sport is indeed a great spectacle, the event must be organised with precision and professionalism. In the past, the amazing squad of volunteers who have given their time and energy on the day has been a key factor in Sunbowl success. Again, we need dedicated volunteers to take up the challenge to make the 2015 Sunbowl the best yet. This year we need people for setup and pull down, the entry booth and the bar together with the chain crews, ball boys and field security, to name a few jobs that we need your support for. We are only asking for a couple of hours of your time on the day. So please put your name down to help and make this 2015 Sunbowl one to remember. As an incentive, Volunteers receive: * Free Entry to Sunbowl 2015 (normally $10/adult) * Canteen Voucher ($10 value) * An entry in the volunteers draw to win 1 of 5 x $100 Westfield Gift Vouchers * An entry for your club in the Impact Sports Draw where you could win a new helmet value at over $400 for your club
