12.01.2022 Thank you @white.blank.space for this delicious Curried-Chickpea-Cauliflower + Mango-Chia-Lassi Recipe. Whats great about feeding babies and young toddlers is that they are more open to various foods than older kids. I like to think of this age as an excellent opportunity to serve veggies without hiding them. My eight-months-old loved this meal. I have a full tutorial of this recipe linked on my profile, so go check it out. .... And check out this divided silicone suction bowl by @grabease.au (coming soon). It was the perfect bowl to serve this meal. I was able to serve cauliflowers and mango lassi in the same bowl, and the suction was strong enough to keep the bowl in place. @grabease.au baby utensils are very intuitive for babies to use. Sweet pea doesnt get the concept of utensils yet, but never too early to start practicing. . Warning: This meal is extremely messy, so proceed at your own risk. . Curried Chickpea Cauliflower 1 cauliflower head half of a canned (7.5 oz) chickpeas, rinsed 2 tbsp olive oil 2 tsp curry powder 1/2 tsp ground turmeric 2/3 cup unsweetened coconut yogurt . Note: for babies, look for no-salt-added can beans. . 1. Cut cauliflower into florets and rinse. 2. Place cauliflower florets in a steamer basket, set over boiling water, and cover. Steam for 18-20 minutes until cauliflower is very soft. 3. Meanwhile, heat 2 tbsp of olive oil in a saucepan. Add curry powder and turmeric and mix with a spatula. 4. Add chickpeas and cook for a couple of minutes. 5. Turn off heat. Mash chickpeas using a fork. 6. Add coconut yogurt to mashed chickpeas and mix well. 7. Combine steamed cauliflower florets and chickpea mixture. Mix well with a spatula. Mango Chia Lassi 1 ripe mango 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut yogurt 1 tbsp chia seeds . Blend everything in a mixer until smooth. See more

08.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW? It’s easier to brush teeth when your little one is laying down or from behind (rather than the front)! That’s why dental chairs recline. Even dentists would have trouble at check-ups if a child was sitting upright or standing. : Where does your little one like to brush? In our house, Olivia is 25 months, but still has trouble letting us brush for her. We usually brush laying down, and then let her have a turn herself at the sink.... SUBSCRIBE at www.thedentistmom.com for more tiny teeth tips! Check out toothpaste & toothbrush options in my Amazon shop. TAG a friend who’s expecting or has little ones at home. ____________________________ WHY LAY DOWN TO BRUSH? 1 You can have better view and access of your child’s teeth. 2 The muscles and soft tissues are naturally less tense, making it easier to brush. 3 Laying down also helps your baby acclimate to the same reclined position that the dental chair provides. BRUSHING TIPS: Experiment with different locations to find your child’s preference the bed, the floor, the couch, or the playpen. Experiment with timing that fits into your child’s routine - brushing between diaper changes, brushing wrapped in a towel after bath time, or brushing swaddled up right before bed. Some children need 2 adults to brush (in a knee-to-knee position), which provides better control of your baby and increases safety when brushing. See my Tutorials highlights for a video tutorial. If you’re uncomfortable holding your little down, you can swaddle them with a blanket (for infants) or try a weighted blanket (for toddlers) instead. If your child doesn’t enjoy lying down all the way, try using a pillow or beanbag so that your child can recline part way instead. Once your child is cooperative enough for brushing, you can transition to the big kid sink! @the.dentistmom

08.01.2022 Great tips on avoiding mealtime negotiations by Edwena from @mylittleeater Do you have a toddler who has refused to eat their meal? Well you’re not alone and it’s actually completely normal! She explains it here: ... Did you know that toddlers LOVE having control?! They thrive on it. They want to be independent and enjoy making their OWN choices. Which often means choosing the exact opposite of what we want them to choose. It's totally normal and developmentally expected! And since it's hard for them to feel a sense of control in other areas of their lives, chances are they will try to gain control at the dinner table. Edwena’s rule is that there should be no room for negotiation at the table! Because negotiations show toddlers that there is some sway when it comes to what they eat, and that you're not confident in your role at the table. Sometimes we don't even notice our confidence beginning to slip and and need to do a little check in with ourselves. So try not to bargain or force them to eat - think about realistically what a finished meal for them looks like and only serve that amount. They may eat it all, ask for more, or eat some or none at all. To read more about stress-fee toddler mealtimes, head to the blog (link in bio). See more

07.01.2022 There has always been a lot of hype and speculation around introducing allergenic foods to babies such as eggs and peanuts Recently, the guidelines have changed significantly and understandably there is a lot of confusion amongst parents as to when is the right time, and how to do it Here are a few tips from Caroline Partridge of @aussieallergymum for introducing allergenic foods to babies ... Earlier in the day for trying new foods means less chance of a sleepless night Just try one new food at a time, then if something happens you will know where to start Give each new food at least 3 days before moving on to the next, a reaction may not happen on the first 1 or 2 tries Familiarise yourself with the symptoms of allergic reactions, www.allergy.org.au is an amazing resource You can read more about this topic by Carolina in the blog (link in bio). 06.01.2022 When shopping for a suction bowl, consider purchasing one thats silicone & that really sticks! The new Grabease stay-put suction bowl provides that just-right... support for babies & toddlers as they develop their fine motor skills for self-feeding. . Notice how deep the bowl is? Thats the secret! Its the tall, supporting walls on each side that boost along these skills & later house bigger portions for bigger kids! . At 6 months, once baby is sitting upright on her own (with the right supports in the highchair), shell begin to rake up food off the tray or table. That raking slowly morphs into a defined pincer grasp & its not perfected till about 12 months of age! Sure, youll see baby begin to pinch foods between her little thumb & forefinger, but it takes lots of practice to learn how much pressure to apply for various foods & how to hold small pieces in that perfect spot between the pads of each digit. . Notice how at first, baby will use the sides of the finger & thumb, but baby needs to develop a more mature pattern for holding small pieces of food. To help her do that, try the strategies in this post. . Take pictures each week of your babys hands over the bowl & youll see the progression plus have an adorable record of those fine motor feeding milestones for your baby book! . #melaniepotock #grabease #learningtoeat #blw #blwinspiration #feedinglittles #mylittleeater #blwideas #parentingbaby #feedingbaby #feedme #momtips #dadadvice #babyfood #baby See more

06.01.2022 Ah, so your toddler has discovered gravity! . Its a pretty easy habit to break, if you catch it early enough. Follow these steps: . 1Ignore anything that ...flew through the air & hit the floor. Pretend you missed the air show. . 2Clear any remaining food off the tray & calmly place just a few pieces of food there instead. The less food, the less fun to toss. I mean, who really has fun throwing just one a few pieces of confetti? . 3When those few pieces are gone, encourage your child to sign or ask for More & respond with a few more pieces. . 5Read your childs cues. When he isnt as interested in eating, thats when the tossing will start again. Stop the meal before that happens. . Later in the day, give him a big hug & tell him how much you love eating with him. You dont need to comment on throwing or not throwing food. Ideally, the less attention to the behavior, the better. . Parent consistently. It only takes about 3 to 4 days of feeding kids this way to break the habit & slowly youll be able to offer more foods. . Got a kid who tosses the bowl or the plate? Choose a silicone bowl/plate that sticks or serve food right off the tray or the table. I especially like the new bowl by @grabease ! Ill have a post on that tomorrow! . Parent proactively. Keep pets out of the kitchen so no pets run in & lap up all the food on the floor. Thats pretty entertaining & rewards the behavior youre trying to stop! . Parent patiently. Throwing food is a typical part of young toddler development, but the less attention we give to it, the quicker it will go away. Finally, make sure kids are truly hungry when they come to the table. Go to my website at www.melaniepotock.com, click the FREE TOOLBOX tab & download the ideal schedule to create just enough hunger to increase their interest in being at the table. We want kids hungry, not hangry, so that behaviors like these never become an issue in the first place. #melaniepotock #feedinglittles #feedingtoddlers #toddlers #fussyeaters #pickyeaters #parentingtips #parentingtoddlers #toddlerlife #babyledweaning #blw #blwinspiration #slp #mealtimes See more
