22.01.2022 https://gracechurchesconsulting.com//power-of-perception-g New research is starting to explore how gratitude works to improve our mental health. People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems. Gratitude is one of the most powerful human emotions. It's about focusing on what's good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have.

18.01.2022 In order to practice setting and holding boundaries, you also need to be practice sitting with the discomfort of other people's reactions to them. As we navigate what is our "new normal" and decide what we are wanting to bring forward, what we want to leave behind, practicing positive new behaviours and defining boundaries it is important to also acknowledge that this can be at times hard and uncomfortable. Particularly when setting boundaries with people you already have est...ablished relationships and patterns of behaviour with. This doesn't mean you shouldn't set the boundaries. Remember that setting boundaries is an act of self compassion and is critical to respecting yourself but also maintaining health relationships with others. www.gracechurchesconsulting.com

17.01.2022 https://gracechurchesconsulting.com//floatingthroughfeelin Floating Through Your feelings is basically a matter of separating yourself from your feelings (anxiety, overwhelmed, stress). You don’t live in the midst of your anxiety. You don’t try to change it in any way. You don’t try to repress it. You don’t fear your feelings. You don’t believe it, you don’t analyse it and try to understand why you are panicking. You just float on top of it and let it pass.

16.01.2022 Emotional intelligence is probably more important now than ever. It helps us deal with change and uncertainty you could argue those are things we all need now.

15.01.2022 Ever wanted to reach out to your friends but didn’t know how? Or, wished the phone would ring so you didn’t have to take the first step? Chances are, you might have a mate who’s feeling the same way right now. Just checking in and being there for your mates can make all the difference in terms of support when someone you know is struggling, and can make all the difference in terms of recovery from symptoms of a mental illness. A simple conversation can help make someone feel ...less alone, more connected and more supported. Sometimes all it takes to break down the barriers is for you to start the conversation with your mate and ask if they’re doing OK. Tune in tomorrow at 7:30am on Radio 2AY when I will be providing tips of how to have a meaningful conversation about mental health and what to do after asking "Are you ok?" #mentalhealth #RUOK #menmentalhealth #counselling #gracechurchesconsulting

15.01.2022 The Festive Season is suppose to be a joyous time celebrated with family and friends. But for many, it can be the catalyst for increased feelings of anxiety, stress and loneliness. Here are my 5 KEY TIPS to supporting your emotion wellbeing: 1. KEEP IT SIMPLE: Eliminate as many details as you can, so you have less to worry about. You cant do it all so be kind to yourself when setting your expectations.... 2. PRIORITISE YOUR HEALTH: It's no good if you fall in a heap, so make sure you are looking after yourself, eating well, moving your body and prioritising sleep. 3. SCHEDULE 'WORRY TIME': Find a small window each day to consider the things that are worrying you. Write them down and then address them in this time by working out reasonable solutions. 4. MAKE TIME FOR YOU: Each day find 15 min (or more) to do something just for you. Something to fill your cup, create mental space and bring you a state of calm. 5. PLAN AHEAD AND KNOW HOW TO SAY 'NO': Identify your triggers and create an action plan in advance on how you can either avoid or manage them when they arise. It's also OK to say 'No' to things that are not going to bring you joy or a sense of wellness. Know your boundaries and give yourself permission to use them. 13.01.2022 What seems like a lifetime ago I was on a travel adventure with my beloved through Southeast Asia when we made a visit to a popular temple. On arrival there was an old man who I struck up a conversation with. He had a bright smile and infectious laugh and insisted sharing his umbrella to keep out of the hot sun. As we made our way through the temple the old man told us stories of his culture, of the significance of the temple we were in and the meaning of the complex symbols ...and inscriptions on the golden walls. He insisted on us meeting a monk who was offering blessings to those passing by. We received his blessing using beautiful white lotus flowers. It was during this blessing that we learnt of the meaning and importance of the sacred lotus flower. To start, the lotus flower has a life cycle like no other. With it's roots latched in the mud, each night it submerges into river water and miraculously reblooms each morning sparkling clean. A lotus seed can withstand thousands of years without water, able to germinate centuries later. In many cultures the lotus represents rebirth, enlightenment, purity and faithfulness. The lotus flower speaks of how we can rise up from darkness and seek connection, growth and rebirth from seeking the light. Regardless of how stuck we may feel or how dark to may seem. We can rise over and over again. For like the lotus flower we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of darkness and radiate into the world.... www.gracechurchesconsulting.com

03.01.2022 It is ok to be feeling overwhelmed and increasingly anxious in the face of prolonged uncertainty and change. When you are feeling overloaded and heightened consider trying FAFLing..... What? I may hear you say.... Hear me out... F: FACE the fearful thoughts and feelings (don't run away) A: ACCEPT and acknowledge your current state of mind, don't try to fight against it. F: FLOAT- Slow down and take some deep breaths L: Let time pass- Give yourself permission to be in the moment, focus on breathing and quieting the mind. Know that with time the feelings will pass. This little acrynom can come in handy when developing a self care strategy that can support you when dealing with the stressors of everyday life. #gracechurchesconsulting #counselling #mentalhealth #anxiety
