25.01.2022 Gums and Infections Gum Infections are a serious medical issue. They can lead to lost teeth, lost bone structure, and our general health and immune system is severely compromised. An estimated 45% of adults have a gum infection. Most don't realize they have an infection until far too late, when the matter is already serious and hard to treat. Signs of Gum infections?... - Red Swollen gums. These tend to feel tender when we brush - Bad breath - Receding gums. Your teeth look longer because the gums are shrinking! - Sensitive teeth. Hot and cold drinks cause a sharp pain on one of more teeth - Loose teeth - An abscess above a tooth. The gum infections produce yellow pus. There are two main type of Gum disease. Gingivitis is an infection that leaves us with sore, discoloured, bleeding gums. It also tends to cause bad breath and tooth sensitivity as the gum recede from the base of the teeth. Gingivitis can be cured with diligent brushing, flossing and use of mouthwash. Periodontitis is a more advance type of gum infection. It often develops from Gingivitis that has been left untreated, with an additional type of stubborn bacterial infection. Over a relatively short space of time Periodontitis can cause bone decay and tooth loss. It can literally be fatal if left for too long. Periodontitis cannot be cured by brushing and flossing alone. It requires medical intervention by a dentist, most often by a Periodontist who specializes in this type of ailment. Treatment often includes antibiotics, and perhaps surgery to remove damaged tooth and bone. Diligent daily brushing, flossing and use of mouthwash greatly reduces the chance of contracting any gum disease. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems

25.01.2022 Harsh Drinking Habits Our tooth enamel is the hardest material in our body, but it can be easily damaged by acidic conditions. If we drink anything acidic we risk cumulative damage to our tooth enamel, which quickly leads to teeth that are sensitive to temperature changes, or teeth that suffer decay. - Fruit juice - While fruit may be healthy, the juice leaves out all the fiber, and it is quite acidic. Eat the fruit instead. - Soft drink/carbonated drinks - These are al...l acidic and harsh on teeth. The diet versions aren't quite as bad, but should still be avoided. - Sports drinks - Don't be mislead, these are harsh on teeth, and offer no health benefits. - Lemon water - This is still acidic, though not quite as harsh as the other things on the list. But lemon water has been causing tooth decay in many patients. To avoid problems with acidic drinks: - Drink more water, tea, milk and other safe beverages. - Use a straw for drinking, as this keep the liquid away from the teeth. - Drink and gargle water after drinking anything acidic - Chew sugar free gum after drinking, to help clear the mouth - Wait 30 minutes after eating or drinking before brushing the teeth. If we brush too soon we damage the teeth as the acid from the drink as soften the enamel. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental

24.01.2022 Halloween Halloween is not as popular in Australia as it is in the United States, but there are still plenty of children eating a lot of sugary food around this time of year. We should take some measures to prevent damage to young teeth. - Encourage children to eat sweets and desserts after meals. This acidity level of the mouth is more stable at this point. - Discourage snacks between meals. The sugar from snack will stay on the teeth for hours and cause damage to ...the enamel. - Sticky candy, sour candy and boiled sweets are the worst offenders for tooth decay. They take a long time to dissolve, so the teeth are exposed to sugar for a long time. Sticky candy tends to stick to teeth and cause bad damage. - Plain chocolate isn’t too bad for teeth. Of course the sugar in the chocolate is harmful, but the cocoa is actually beneficial for teeth and general health. Dark and low sugar chocolate is a reasonable option, far better than any most other candy. - Sugar free gum is okay, with xylitol gum actually benefiting teeth. Have children chew gum after eating candy. - Never brush teeth after eating candy or sugar. Always wait 30 minutes. Tooth enamel is soften by the sugar after we eat, so brushing will cause damage. Gargle or drink water, and wait 30 minutes before brushing. - Always drink water and gargle. This goes a long way to removing, or at least reducing, the effects of sugar in the mouth. It also neutralizes our palate, so we are not to desensitized to sugary foods. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental

24.01.2022 Healthy Gut Bacteria The connection between health and gut bacteria has only really been investigated over the last 20 years. It is still not completely understood. But we do know that bad bacteria will compromise our physical health, have a bad impact on our mental health, and greatly increase problems with tooth decay and gum disease. Physical - Bad bacteria lowers the immune system, and increase the long term chance of heart disease and dementia. Mental - Bad bacteria ca...n quickly lead to depression, constant tiredness, and poor concentration. Dental - Gum infection, which are serious, are the direct result of bad bacteria. Tooth decay comes from bad bacteria interacting with sugar. We can fight against bad bacteria by introducing more healthy bacteria into our diets. We do this by taking Pro-biotic supplements and eating fermented foods like yogurt, Kimchi, sauerkraut ...etc. We can help feed this good bacteria by taking pre-biotics, which include fiber, and starches like rice and potatoes that have been refrigerated overnight. Of course we fight bad bacteria by brushing, flossing and using mouthwash. This also kills some good bacteria, so we need take the pro-biotics to compensate for this loss. Increasing Good bacteria in our diet and fighting bad bacteria greatly benefits our dental health, as well as our physical and mental health. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental #dentalclient #dentalcustomer #visitdentist #moderndental #moderndentist #dentisttoday #modernteeth #goodhabits #healthymouth #invisalign #braces #teethadvice #teethtechnology #toothtechnology #dentaladvice #hydrated #gumdisease #toothenamel #goodbacteria #gutbacteria #probiotics See more

23.01.2022 Atkins, Low Carbm Keto Modern Diets Concern with our health and losing weight is important. And when approached correctly this tends to benefit our teeth and gums. But some modern diets can have side-effects cause dental problems. Over the past generation we have heard a lot about low Carb diets, including Keto and Atkins. These appear to be effective for weight loss, even asthe long term effects are still being studied. But they tend to have one bad side effect. People on l...ow Carb diets suffer bad breath. Low carb diets work by pushing the body into burning fat, rather than the Carbs that we are eating. But this fat burning produces keytones, which leads to bad breath. The Bad breath is worst when first starting the new diet, and will abate after a few weeks. But we can reduce the effects with some simple practices. Increasing water intake. This is always good for health, as long as the rest of the diet is healthy. It reduces bad breath, and helps keep teeth clean. Decrease protein and increase healthy fats Use sugar free gum. Gum with Xylitiol sweetener is best Use mouthwash several time per day Add a small amount of carbs, and reduce this gradually. Keep teeth clean with twice/thrice daily brushing and flossing. On a positive note, the reduced carb and sugar intake of these Low-Carb and Keto diets will help reduce tooth decay. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdenta

23.01.2022 Be Rid of Plaque Plaque is the sticky biofilm that builds up on teeth. It is soft and colourless at first, but it will quickly harden to form Tartar which is yellow/brown in colour. This hardened form is difficult to remove. Plaque will quickly lead to tooth decay and gum infections. So it need to be promptly removed on a daily basis. We can remove plaque before it hardens by: ... - Brushing with a soft brush twice a day. This is especially important before sleeping. Wait 30 minutes after eating before brushing. - Clean between teeth once per day with Floss, Inter-dental Brushes, or a Waterpik - Use mouthwash at least once per day. It helps to if keep mouthwash where your work or study, in the car and in other places, so you can use it more often. Always use mouthwash without alcohol. We can greatly reduce the amount of plaque by cutting down on sugar, starch, juice and carbonated drinks in our diet. These feed the bad bacteria that create the plaque. A Dental Hygienist can remove hardened plaque/tartar on our teeth. Regular dental appointments will address any dental issues before they become too serious. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental #dentalclient #dentalcustomer #visitdentist #moderndental #moderndentist #dentisttoday #modernteeth #goodhabits #healthymouth #invisalign #braces #teethadvice #teethtechnology #toothtechnology #dentaladvice #hydrated #gumdisease #toothenamel #goodbacteria #gutbacteria #probiotics #protectteeth #toothache #soretooth #damagedtooth #dentalhygienist #decay #caries #plaque #plaquebuildup #tartar #calculus See more

23.01.2022 The Plaque Problem Plaque is the thick, sticky substance that quickly builds up on teeth. It is soft and unnoticeable at first, but it soon hardens into yellow/brown tartar, which is hard to remove. We need to remove plaque with twice daily brushing. If we don't remove it promptly it will turn to tartar, sometimes within 24 hours. Plaque and tartar in the teeth quickly leads to tooth decay. - Brush twice daily with a soft bristle toothbrush, morning and night. Do not brush t...oo soon after eating, wait 30 minutes. - Clean between the teeth once per day with either floss, interdental brushes, or a Waterpik. - Use mouthwash at least once per day. This destroys most bad bacteria in the mouth. Avoid mouthwash with alcohol. - Keep sugary foods to a minimum, as these increase the bad bacteria in the mouth. Tartar control toothpastes will greatly help prevent tartar buildup. But if the tartar has already formed it can only be removed by the dentist or dental hygienist. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #guminfection #periodontitis #gingivitis #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #moderndental #plaque #tartar

21.01.2022 Mouth and General Health Our dental health will affect our general health. If we neglect our teeth and gums we will soon tend to suffer other health issues. People with gum disease are far more likely to suffer heart disease. The exact link is not known, but the same bacteria are involved with both problems. ... There is a link between diabetes and gum disease. Gum disease is more common in those with diabetes because of the lower resistance to infection. And the gum disease make sugar levels harder to stabilize, which is the central issue with diabetes. A dry mouth increases tooth decay and gum disease. It also cause bad breath. Stress will often cause teeth grinding, especially at night. This steadily causes damage. In the short term this can be treated with a mouthguard. But the cause of the stress must be addressed. Gum infections and poor teeth raise the risk of dementia as we age. Arthritis is linked to gum disease. The link appears to be inflammation. The positive news is that treating gum disease helps reduce the pain of arthritis. Anti-inflammation foods like turmeric will help both conditions. It is not difficult to brush, floss and use mouthwash. The numerous effects on our health are worth the effort. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental

18.01.2022 Between the Teeth About 30% of our tooth surface is between the teeth. This is an area that is not cleaned by regular brushing. If we do not have a way to clean this area between the teeth we are leaving ourselves to tooth decay and gum infections. We can clean between the teeth by: - Flossing - This is a tried and true method, a few minutes of flossing will remove almost all of the food debris and plaque between teeth.... - Interdental Brushes - These short brushes, shaped like the end of a pipe cleaner, will remove almost all of the food debris and plaque between teeth. - Floss sticks - This is a short length of floss held in a small plastic holder. Many find this easier than conventional flossing, and it is just as effective. Use once and discard. - WaterPik - These electrical devices clean between the teeth with high pressure water. They are quite effective. - Ultrasonic Toothbrushes - The vibration of these brushes will destroy bacteria and plaque in the mouth. They clean whatever they are close to, even if they do not physically touch the area. But these will not remove food stuck between teeth. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental

15.01.2022 Dealing with Toothache A toothache is a sign that something is wrong. This should always be checked by a dentist, as the matter is probably serious. A toothache is qualifies for an emergency dental appointment. So make an appointment straight away, In the meantime you can take some measures to alleviate the pain. ... - General over-the-counter painkillers like Advil will help. Anything with Ibuprofen will usually help. - A cold compress on the tooth and gum helps. Use a cold gel pack or ice wrapped in a towel. - Elevate your head. This improves the blood circulation and reduces the pain. We often find a toothache is worse when we lie down. So elevate your head when sleeping. - Numbing gel, available at chemists, will reduce the pain. - Mouthwash, especially antiseptic types, help fight the underlying problem. - Gargle Salt and cold water. This fights the infection. Repeat this every hour or two. - A rinse of Hydrogen Peroxide diluted in water also fights the infection. - Peppermint Tea helps relieve the pain. Make sure this is not too hot as the heat can temporarily increase the pain. - Cloves and garlic on the sore area can help. - Do not apply an aspirin directly to the sore tooth/gum. This is an old wives tale, and actually causes damage. A toothache may be a sign of tooth decay, an emerging wisdom tooth, and abscess,, or a root canal infection. These need to be treated by a dentist as soon as possible. Some probiotics can help replenish the good bacteria that are destroyed by the mouthwash and antiseptics that we use to kill the bad bacteria. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental

12.01.2022 The Root Canal Myth There is a common misconception that root canal treatments are painful. But this is a myth. While an infected tooth is often painful, especially when the root is infected, the treatment is fairly mild. A root canal treatment actually puts an end to the pain, permanently. A root canal treatment will be necessary if the nerve inside the tooth is badly infected. The tooth will be painful, especially when exposed to hot or cold temperatures. The treatment rem...oves the nerve, but preserves the outer hard exterior of the tooth. An infected tooth, especially an upper back molar, is dangerous because the infection can spread. An infection that gets into the blood stream or brain can be fatal. So any tooth that might be infected needs to be treated as soon as possible. Once a tooth has had a root canal it will no longer have any feeling at all. But the outer enamel and main body of the tooth remain intact, so the tooth remains fully functional and will look much like the other teeth. You will soon forget that anything has changed. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental #dentalclient #dentalcustomer #visitdentist #moderndental #moderndentist #dentisttoday #modernteeth #goodhabits #healthymouth #invisalign #braces #teethadvice #teethtechnology #toothtechnology #dentaladvice #hydrated #gumdisease #toothenamel #goodbacteria #gutbacteria #probiotics #protectteeth #toothache #soretooth #damagedtooth #mouthache #rootcanal #rootcanaltreatment #infectedtooth #toothinfection See more

12.01.2022 Restoring Damaged Teeth We would all prefer to keep our teeth in pristine condition. But if they are damaged there are many methods to restore their function and appearance. Teeth that were never quite right to begin with can also be corrected with many of these methods. Traditional Fillings - Amalgam was the older method of filling holes in teeth. These fillings were long lasting, but never looked like real tooth enamel.... Composite Resin Filling - This is the more modern type of filling, which not only restores the function of the tooth, but also looks like actual tooth enamel. Veneers - These are a synthetic surface that covers the front of the tooth. They are great for covering a discoloured or misshapen tooth. They can also make a tooth slightly wider, to fill in gaps between teeth. Crowns - These replace the entire outer surface of a tooth. They look and function like natural teeth, and last for decades. Implants - These replace an entire tooth with an artificial tooth on a metal post. Implants look and function like natural teeth. you will soon forget you ever had a tooth replaced. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental

11.01.2022 When Teeth Emerge in Infants A child's first tooth will usually emerge by their first birthday. The full set of baby teeth will emerge between the ages of two and three. Teething is often painful for a child, but the situation varies between individuals. Some youngsters show little sign of discomfort, others will be quite distressed, at least for the first tooth. Signs of toothing distress:... - Excessive drooling - Increased biting, chewing and sucking. - Pulling at the ears and rubbing the face - Red and swollen gums, cheeks or chin - Rejecting food - Difficulty sleeping How to Treat Teething Difficulty. - Cold Washcloth to chew on. - Soft teeth toys to suck on. It helps if these are cold from the fridge. - Massage the child's gums. - Pharmacists have some medications for children. - Frequently Clean the gums by wiping with a wet cloth Teething won't really affect the child's digestion or nappy changing habits. But the child often moves to solid food about the same time that teething starts. It is the solid food that affects the digestion. We recommend taking the child to the dentist when the first tooth emerges, or when they reach their first birthday. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental #dentalclient #dentalcustomer #visitdentist #moderndental #moderndentist #dentisttoday See more

11.01.2022 Receding Gums Over times our gums may recede, exposing the roots of our teeth. This makes our teeth sensitive to hot and cold temperatures, and also looks rather bad. Gums can recede for several reason, most of which can be prevented. - An infection like periodontitis will cause gums to recede quite rapidly.... - Brushing teeth with a stiff toothbrush, or just brushing too hard. - Injury to the mouth - Wearing poorly fitted dentures - Long term Smoking - Old and and genetics - Generally poor dental health - not brushing, flossing and cleaning teeth twice daily. We can prevent receding gums, or reduce the risk, by: - Diligent brushing, flossing and use of mouthwash. - A diet rich in antioxidants. This reduces damage to cells, and keep us healthier as we age. Natural food like vegetables and fruit contain antioxidants. - Omega-3 in the diet helps. Eat fish, nuts and seeds. - Anti-inflammation food helps. Try turmeric, tomatoes, leafy green vegetables, fruit. - Green tea, even green tea chewing gum, seems to help. If gums have already receded the dentist can treat the problem. But it is far better to avoid the issue, and keep you gums healthy. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental

09.01.2022 Dentistry in the Near Future Coming to the end of 2020 we might look at some rising trends on technology on the horizon for dentistry. Convenience through online information- This has steadily come about over the last generations. We can book dental appointments online, get faster emergency dental work, and no longer have to fill out forms about medical history before we undergo a procedure, because the dentist has most relevant information on easy to access computer files. ... Emotional Dentistry - Computer modeling and simulations can show us the results of our cosmetic dentistry, and perhaps show several options to choose from, before we start. This gives a patient a goal to commit to, which is very encouraging. 3D Printing - Teeth can be printed by the dentist, who no longer has to send the specifics out to a dental laboratory. The 3D printing technology is expensive to set up, but saves money in the long term. Laser Treatments - Laser technology has found many applications since the mid 1980s. Dentists are looking at using lasers for removing gum lesions and root canals infections. This causes minimal pain, so anesthetics are no longer needed, and the procedure kills bacteria and seals the area being operated on. The laser procedures will be quick and effective. Lasers can also be used for tooth whitening. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental #dentalclient #dentalcustomer #visitdentist #moderndental #moderndentist #dentisttoday #modernteeth #goodhabits #healthymouth #invisalign #braces #teethadvice #dentaladvice #hydrated #gumdisease #toothenamel #dentaltechnology #laserental See more

09.01.2022 Some Basic Dental Health Tips - Use a soft bristled toothbrush. Electric toothbrushes with soft bristles are a good option. - Brush for 2 minutes. Use a timer if necessary; some electric toothbrushes have a timer built in. ... - Replace the toothbrush regularly, at least ever 3 month or at the first sign of wear. - Always floss once per day. 30% of the tooth surface is between the teeth. - Mouthwash is simple to use, and is very effective. Use this at least twice per day. - Stay hydrated. This is healthy as so many levels. It helps reduce dental decay by keeping the mouth wet. It also reduces bad breath. - Avoid frequent snacking. 07.01.2022 Musical Instruments and Teeth Musical instruments that are played with the mouth, specifically brass and some woodwind, can have a negative effect on teeth. Music has cognitive benefits, and often social benefits, but good habits and proper technique are need for these instruments if we are not to compromise our dental health. - Mouthpieces on musical instruments may put pressure on teeth. This can cause alignment problems in the growing teeth of some children. Proper t...echnique makes a big difference here. Soft acrylic mouthguards can also be a big help. - Mouthpieces can harbour bacteria. It is important to clean and disinfect these mouthpieces on at least a weekly basis to prevent the spread of bacteria. - Blisters, cold sores, some ulcers and other problems increase with the use of musical instruments that press on the mouth. - Cross-bite and over-bite can be exacerbated by some instruments in the mouth. Proper technique reduces the risk. - The act of blowing air through an instrument can cause a dry mouth. This issue is often underestimated. A dry mouth can lead to gum infections and tooth decay. Keeping the mouth moist will greatly reduce these issues. - We can end up with bad posture or bad jaw alignment if we hold an instrument incorrectly. This even applies to instruments not on the mouth, like violins. Occasionally these Jaw alignment problems might require orthodontic treatment. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental #dentalclient #dentalcustomer #visitdentist #moderndental #moderndentist #dentisttoday

05.01.2022 What Makes A Smile We can easily overlook the importance of our smile. There is more social interaction and communication in our smile than we realise. If we lose this, we might wonder why we are treated so differently. A good smile may be partly subjective, and of course it will be a little different for each individual. But there are some common factors to consider.... - Teeth are neatly aligned - This can be altered with braces, other orthodontic work, or sometimes with crowns or implants. - Teeth are the right colour - they should complement our skin colour, usually by being white. Bleaching can change the tooth colour for some individuals. - Smile Arc - The front top teeth should be slightly lower, with the rest of the teeth smoothly curving up towards the back. The lower teeth should be level. - The Midline - The two top teeth should meet at the centre of the face, directly under the nose. And the bottom teeth should align in the same fashion. - Tooth Size - The top front teeth are slightly larger, the teeth immediately behind these are slightly smaller. This often looks best when fitting the Golden ratio - 1.618:1 - Gum line display - Some people show a little gum over the top of the teeth when they smile; this should not be too extreme. Some people do not show any gum when they smile. - Gum line curve (Maxillary line) - If the gum line is seen it should curve slightly upward to match the curve of the teeth. - Buccal Corridor - This is the space at the corners of the mouth. It should be small but noticeable. No space might make the teeth look too big. A large space sometimes makes the teeth look too small. - Cant - Simply the angle of the teeth. The teeth should be vertical, or close to vertical. A dentist can optimise the smile we have. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #guminfection #periodontitis #gingivitis #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #moderndental #smile

02.01.2022 Plain Water Water has received a lot of attention over the last generation. The importance of staying hydrated, of always having bottled water at hand, has been constantly emphasized in popular media and general health advice. Drinking water has numerous benefits for our teeth. - Water keeps our teeth a little cleaner.... - Water neutralizes the acidity of our saliva, reducing decay, especially after we eat. - Water helps reduce bad breath. - By keeping our mouth moist we reduce the bad bacteria, which would otherwise thrive in a dry environment. - Water is healthier than any alternative liquid. There are no calories in water, and no sugar to harm teeth. The present generation tends to drink bottled water instead of tap water. This is generally good, bottled water being pure; but unfortunately this means missing out on the fluoride in tap water, which would help strengthen teeth. We should use a fluoride mouthwash or toothpaste to compensate for this lack of fluoride in our drinking water. Consistently drink water during the day for both better dental health and general health. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #orthodontist #orthodontictreatment #gumproblems #guminfection #health #healthy #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #ongoingdental #dentalclient #dentalcustomer #visitdentist #moderndental #moderndentist #dentisttoday

02.01.2022 Straight Teeth and Jaws with Braces A few people are lucky enough to have naturally neat teeth. But most of us need at least a little straightening to get our teeth looking good and functioning well. One common way to straighten teeth is with braces. Braces are the metal brackets and wires that move teeth into place over time. The process usually takes about 2 years. Braces will also fix some jaw alignment issues.... We might need braces if: - Crooked teeth - Crowded teeth - Teeth with some gaps - One or more teeth that protrude - Suffer an overbite - Suffer an Underbite - Suffer Crossbite - Have jaws that do not fit neatly together - Have an incorrectly positioned jaw. Some options for braces include; Traditional metal braces - These are an old system, but work effectively. Metal brackets and a wire are fitted to the front of the teeth. Ceramic Braces - Similar to metal, but less noticeable because they blend in. Lingual - These have braces fitted behind the teeth. They are unnoticeable, but are initially awkward for speaking. Braces are usually fitted a during the teen years, when the adult teeth have just emerged. This allows us to have the benefits of straight teeth when we are adults. But braces can be fitted at any point after the adult teeth emerge. #dentistedensorpark #edensorparkdentist #dentistgreenvalley #greenvalleydentist #childrensdentist #kidsdentist #decaydental #dentaltreatment #cleanteeth #moderndentist #dentalprotection #dentalproblems #guminfection #periodontitis #gingivitis #teeth #tooth #dentalhealth #dentalcare #moderndental #braces #straightteeth
