25.01.2022 FUNERAL INDUSTRY & COVID-19 The past weeks have been difficult for everyone. As funeral directors, we have been working quickly to ensure that we are able to serve our community. ... The number of people who can attend a funeral service is limited to 10, including the celebrant/clergy and essential funeral staff. I want you to have a think about what that would mean for you. In many families, that means making the decision to not have children or grandchildren at the funeral of a loved one. These decisions are difficult for everyone involved. We don’t know what further measures will come in, but we have spent the past weeks making sure that we are ready for anything. Our company is fortunate to be the only funeral home in Penrith that has an onsite mortuary and chapel. This allows us to bring a loved one into our care and they remain with us. By having a chapel that has the usual capacity of 60-70 people, we can provide the space to socially distance as well as having time with loved ones. We have increased our technology and for no additional cost we can webcast a funeral to as many people as you would want. We understand that these restrictions are incredibly difficult for our client families and we want to assure you, that we can assist. Extensive and credible research into grief shows us that we need to have a farewell for someone that we love and that it should be timely to the death. The reason that this is important is that to grieve properly we must first say goodbye. If we don’t have a chance to do this, we know that this often stalls the grief process. Which is why we are offering online funeral options and online arrangement conferences. It is important for each person who loved and cared for someone to be able to say goodbye. Please contact us on 47356900 for details.

22.01.2022 We are staying ahead of the curve in terms of training and hygiene. All of our team will complete this training. We will ensure that you and your loved ones are safe, always.

21.01.2022 A STATEMENT ABOUT COVID-19 Coronavirus AN ASSURANCE THAT YOUR WELLBEING IS OUR PRIORITY As we are hearing more and more about the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) we wish to take this opportunity to reassure, our clients present and future, that our team members and suppliers are aware of the of the seriousness of this virus and together we are proactive in undertaking measures to protect all stakeholders.... We have always practiced the highest standards of health and hygiene in every aspect of our operations. But in response to the current situation we are taking additional precautions such as regularly disinfecting and sanitizing our public areas, restrooms, family meeting room, door handles, vehicles and our back of house areas. We have also placed hand sanitizer throughout our premises for visitors, and they will also available when we are attending funeral services. Our staff are fully aware of their own health and their obligation not to attend work should they come in contact with a carrier or suffer the symptoms of the virus. Our policy is that they will not return to work without a medical certificate declaring them healthy and virus free. Throughout this time, we will continue to provide the high quality of customer and funeral service for which we are highly regarded. We can give our clients, staff and stakeholders the assurance that we will conduct our business safely with the best interest of everyone as our priority, Finally, as this situation is evolving daily, we are continually monitoring the advice and recommendations of the Government, health professionals and our industry association and we are following whatever advice is given. In turn we would ask that anyone intending to visit our premises to please advise us in advance if you have symptoms or have had exposure to any person who is listed on the Government web sites or is suspected to have the virus. Regrettably for the foreseeable future we will not be shaking hands, don’t think us rude or inhospitable, it is for your sake as much as ours. 20.01.2022 WE HAVE ALL THE TECHNOLOGY NEEDED SO THAT YOUR FUNERAL CAN GO AHEAD SAFELY! Having a funeral service is incredibly important for family and friends of a loved one to say goodbye. We want to ensure that you can ALWAYS have this opportunity, without putting anyone at risk. We are being asked about if funerals can go ahead. At this stage yes they can; within the government guidelines (which we are strictly adhering to). Currently you can have up to 100 people inside as long as ...there is space for a 2m x 2m distance between people. This is decreasing capacity sizes for many venues. We would like to help. We can offer overflow technology so that people can hear and see outside of venues. We also offer webcasting in our chapel, which is private and very hygienic. Call 4735 6900 for more information. *we are adapting as the guidelines are.

20.01.2022 In line with the latest government advice we will be fully complying. This means that only 10 people are able to attend funerals in person. This includes the clergy/ celebrant and also out staff. We will minimise our staff to essential only. We need to make sure that your family can be there we have webcam and recoding options available. We can also help plan a memorial at a suitable time.

20.01.2022 Today we have some good news! Funerals are now allowed to have 10 mourners with the celebrant/clergy and essential funeral staff not included in the numbers. This allows more family and friends to be in attendance and as funeral staff we can still provide our services safely.

19.01.2022 We have started a monthly column in the The Western Weekender! Here is our first one. If you have any questions please email them to [email protected].

18.01.2022 PENRITH'S ONLY FUNERAL HOME WITH ONSITE MORTUARY AND CHAPEL FACILITIES. In line with the advice given today 23rd March 2020; we are following the following restriction notice: "Religious gatherings, places of worship or funerals (in enclosed spaces and other than very small groups and where the 1 person per 4 square metre rule applies)."... What this means is that we can still hold funerals in our chapel; at Leura Memorial Gardens; at Pinegrove and local churches. However the number of people that can attend is very limited. Chapels that normally seat 100 people now have a capacity of only 20 for example. We have WEBCASTING available in our chapel; complimentary. We can arrange videography if you would prefer. We want you to have a funeral service for your loved one so that you can say goodbye. We have increased our hygiene measures so you know that you and your loved ones are safe. For our COVID-19 Updates; please see our website: https://gracefunerals.com.au/covid-19-update/

18.01.2022 We have some welcomed news regarding the number of attendees allowed at funerals. As of Friday 15th May 2020 we will be able to have 20 people at an indoor funeral and 30 people at an outdoor service. Our private chapel at Emu Plains can accommodate 20 people and we are still offering complimentary webcasting for our families. We also offer a number of outdoor options which can accommodate 30 attendees. Please call 02 4735 6900 for more details.

17.01.2022 Lest we forget.

14.01.2022 We are delighted that The Western Weekender is back! This month we look at how you can personalise a funeral with limited numbers. Over the past weeks we have conducted dozens of funerals with only a handful of attendees, mostly in our chapel at Emu Plains with webcasting. Webcasting is the best alternative we currently have, but we understand that not being in the room together is just not the same. When the restrictions started I thought we would see more people opting not... to have a funeral and to wait, I am pleased to see that many families are choosing to have a service now; they are also opting to have a memorial service later. This might take the form of an ashes scattering or a one-year anniversary memorial. Expert advice teaches us, when we love someone, and lose them we need to be allowed to grieve. We know that planning the funeral, having a viewing, and attending the funeral service all help with the grieving process. Having our family and friends attend the funeral allows them to show that they care, it also shows that you are supported, with only 10 people at a funeral, this changes. If you lose someone and you are not included in the funeral attendees there are still many things that you can do. Send a card, letter, flowers or a meal; call; text; leave a message on Facebook anything you can do to show that you care and that you are thinking of the family. If you can, attend the webcast, if not, have your own ritual. For example light a candle, play a song or have a call with friends and share stories. If you are planning a funeral, we encourage as much personalisation as you can think of. Make the venue your own through decorations. Invite people to write or say something; create a photo story and an online tribute; anything you can think of. We are here to support you; we want you to have a farewell that is meaningful and create a ritual for your family that will always be remembered.

14.01.2022 With new social distancing requirements, it is important that grieving families can come up with new rituals to mourn a loss. We are offering live streaming from our chapel, additionally we are helping families find ways that everyone can be included even when people who are very close to the deceased (for example a grandchild) cannot attend in person. This article from the ABC discusses the important of funeral rituals for grief.

14.01.2022 New look chapel; I find this a bit but our first priority is always safety. WEBCASTING now available (complimentary).

12.01.2022 When you are a grieving we are all different. I found this yin yoga practice that is designed for grief and sadness. I haven't tried this session, but I have found her other yoga very relaxing. As with all aspects of grief, this will be helpful for some but not for all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBNKD8xCkpI&feature=youtu.be

11.01.2022 Dame Vera Lynn has long been a staple at our funeral services; her heartfelt songs touch so many. This amazing lady even released an album in her 90’s! I am sure that we’ll meet again.

09.01.2022 Ask Asha: How to select a funeral director? You should start with the end in mind; what type and quality of service do you want, then find a funeral director who matches your ideal. Personally, I would caution against choosing on price alone, your funeral director is someone who you will become very close to for the period of the service and you need to feel comfortable and confident that they will deal with you with respect and care. A budget operator does not have the reso...urces to provide all necessary services. If you cannot obtain a personal recommendation, websites are the best resource, they should be clear, user friendly and informative, including photos and detail of the owners and team. Also check the testimonials and look for consistency and the most recent comments. Narrow your choices down and call them. On the phone you are looking for rapport and transparent information, ask yourself, does this interaction match your impression of the website? If proceeding, ask who you will be meeting with; you might like the person who answered the phone but in some larger companies this will be a call centre and not the person you will meet. Ask about cost, I believe in it being clear, transparent, and upfront. If you have a provider who will not provide a detailed and written quote, chances are they do not have consistent pricing. Check that all the costs are quoted with no hidden extras or unnecessary additional services. Such as excluding GST and ensure that all costs are itemised, not bundled as a total cost. Finally, choose a firm who is an accredited member of a leading industry association that does regular inspections of the premises. It is your guarantee of quality and professionalism. Check that they have full facilities onsite including a mortuary and chapel, most funeral businesses do not. You have the right to know where your loved one will be located at all times and who is caring for them. As always if you would like some additional advice please email [email protected] or call 4735 6900.
