23.01.2022 Our residents and staff celebrated International Women's Day last week as the special guests of the Lockyer Valley Council Mayor Tanya Milligan. We were grateful to meet Ann Leahy MP Member of Warrego and discuss the importance of our work. Celebrating women in recovery, mother's and their children, women making a difference and women in leadership. Many thanks to Tanya, Anna and Amanda. Great to meet you Ann and so grateful you shared your day with us... #internationalwomensday2021 #womenleadingchange

22.01.2022 Our data shows that 89% of our residents have survived historical or current violence from former or intimate partners. Many also grew up witnessing violence against their mothers. The consequential trauma is so profound we introduced the Shark Cage program to help women understand their rights in relationships and to help overcome re-victimisation. Family and Domestic Violence is the pandemic women and children in our communities have endured for too long. Grace Homestead supports changes to the law so courts and the police have the authority to hold abusers who use coercive control as a weapon against their families accountable. https://www.abc.net.au//hannah-clarke-parents-qld/12499022

21.01.2022 We want to take a moment to acknowledge the people who support Grace Homestead. Both our volunteers who donate their time, and the individuals who give financially each week.. (some who we know, and others that we don't know).. we are so incredibly grateful for your support. We could not do this without you. #itsallaboutgrace

21.01.2022 We know that women use substances to cope with trauma and while we do some work educating our residents about how substances alter brain function and lead to shame, guilt & marginalisation the programs we offer at Grace Homestead focus on how to establish and maintain healthy relationships. It's amazing to see women learn the skills and develop the confidence to communicate in ways that create strong boundaries, to be proactive and understand how to lead their families into a... new future. To all our wonderful FB supporters, please come and join us August 29 for our fundraising luncheon/high tea, you will meet our amazing Grace Homestead Family... Tickets $65 Definitely catering for our Gluten-free and Vegan supporters... https://www.facebook.com/events/755040978621861/

18.01.2022 Almost 90% of our residents have survived historical and/or ongoing Family and Domestic Violence. We are an answer to this pandemic. Keeping families safe and together... https://www.womensforumaustralia.org/government_pledges_700

17.01.2022 We know that overcoming the effects of Intimate Partner Violence is crucial to a mother's recovery from her substance use disorder and the future safety of her family... #SharkCage #promotingrights #freedomfromfear

17.01.2022 Domestic & Family violence is not isolated to any one socio-economic group but more likely occurs when there is substance use. We teach our residents how to recognise when their rights are being ignored and to establish healthy boundaries, its life-changing #endalldvnow

15.01.2022 Social distancing and Covid-19 safety requirements have presented a number of challenges for us and other rehabs. Many rehabs decided to close and while some remained open they haven't accepted new applicants. Grace Homestead chose to remain open and accepted a new applicant while taking every precaution to remain virus-free so we can keep meeting the needs of our residents and their families. During these last months, we have managed the needs of our staff and kept all ou...r programs running so our residents continue to receive gold standard therapies and interventions. A few weeks ago the Federal Government announced an additional $20 million would be allocated to AOD and DV centres to help them meet the challenges created by Covid-19 but, as Grace Homestead is categorised as 'new' we don't get a cent. The Queensland Government's has recognised the value of our work and we are grateful for the kind words but we need finances. We need to see our amazing staff get paid, we need support to ensure we can improve and expand our service. We remain hopeful our Federal Member will meet with us soon. I want as many people as possible to know that we have been open since August 2018 and that every day for 20 months we have relied on the hard work of volunteers who bring their love, commitment, dedication and professionalism in ways that changes the lives of our residents. We have weathered disappointments and setbacks and, we have kept going during a worldwide pandemic when other rehabs closed their doors. We are meeting needs of women willing to do anything to have their children returned to them, who need to escape DV and poverty but it is all dependent on our availability. Every one of these women needs help but the reality is most of them won't get a placement until November. Grace Homestead remains the only long-term residential rehab for parenting women in the state of Queensland. The research shows that every $1 the government spends on AOD treatment saves them $7 in other health-related costs. 12 months of rehab is cheaper than 12 months of prison, or drug courts and then there are costs of law enforcement and courts. Grace Homestead saves lives, restores families and provides hope for women who have nowhere else to turn. #welovewhatwedo #faithhopeandlove #gracechangeslives

14.01.2022 The new child safety policy proposals do not prioritise restoring families. Mother's looking to survive addiction, violent relationships & family breakdown will be at greater risk of losing their children. What we need is a restorative focus that gives women full access to treatment options and the confidence that we will protect their roles as mothers. Grace Homestead must thrive, #itsallaboutgrace

13.01.2022 Grace Homestead is full and we are loving it... 4 little boys under the age of 3, one tween and 3 mums. Remaining calm, staying positive, prioritising mental health, keeping families together, being the change, loving what we do #caremongering #itsallaboutgrace

13.01.2022 While we understand how addiction occurs and it's trajectory there is no definition that properly explains what it is. The contributing factors - childhood sex abuse, family violence, neglect, poverty, family breakdown, mental illness & lack of education opportunities show us that it is a 'complex, multidimensional phenomenon'. We also know is that when addiction is defined by what it looks like then we are tempted to view the mothers with addictions as the problem and that m...akes the step to remove their children simple. But if we view them as women who need help to overcome adversity and trauma then centres like Grace Homestead become solutions. An opportunity for recovery, a home that keeps families safe and together and ensures generations prosper. Grace Homestead is not just about second chances it's about the restoration of hope and about building strong communities #itsallaboutgrace

11.01.2022 So grateful the Government is recognising the need for mental health and DV support for women as we all navigate Covid-19. #caremongering #itsallaboutgrace

10.01.2022 Grace Homestead has to survive because when mother's who need help have nowhere to turn, it doesn't just mean that they are out of options. It means they are silenced. No one hears, no one knows, nothing can change. We passionately believe that our model is the answer to AOD recovery and family reunification.... #ItsAllAboutGrace

09.01.2022 We are so pleased to announce that Grace Homestead has a new Centre Director. Katrina joined the team yesterday, she brings a wealth of experience, empathy and energy to the work that lies before us. Huge thanks to Scott Buchholz MP for advocating for us and, so grateful for the finances sent that has allowed us to bring Katrina on board. 08.01.2022 Just gotta say again, the bravest people I know are the women who trust total strangers with their recovery after years if not a lifetime of abuse. I tell them that 'we can help. we are very good at what we do' and they trust a voice on the phone, wait at the meeting point, jump in my car and let me take them to Grace Homestead. Then the hard work begins... #mummabears #courage #respect #familyfirst

08.01.2022 Today marks 2 years since Grace Homestead opened its doors and began working alongside mothers affected by substance use and who have children in their care. The Grace Homestead team has journeyed with mothers whose bravery and commitment to change is inspirational. We know that there is nothing better than witnessing these families step into their new life so we delight in hearing the successes of our graduates, and seeing them experience the things that they previously tho...Continue reading

07.01.2022 Grace Homestead offers the Shark Cage program as it provides our residents with a strong rights-based foundation to overcoming Domestic & Family Violence and preventing revictimisation.
