22.01.2022 [ New Normal ] Feels like we’re slowly but surely heading back on track. Although many concerts aren’t open to the public yet & seating capacities (when available) are limited - its reassuring that things are slowly going back to normal? In a few things I’ve played during this season, we’ve had to social distance both the orchestra and audience, and its a time to be alive... Definitely makes our job a bit harder, when you can’t rely on your ears to stay together - normally i...ts hard enough with an orchestra on stage since you’re not that close together, but social distancing of 1m - 1.5m per instruments makes it even harder. Whilst it doesn’t always look like this - I thought this was a great shot which is so unique to the current circumstances. For this concert, since we had no or audience members, we took up both the stage and the floor to allow us all to socially distance. #harp #arpa #harfe #music #musician #musiciansofinstagram #igmusicians #igmusician #harpist #practicalharpist #orchestra #harpistsofinstagram #lyonandhealy #lyonandhealyharps
21.01.2022 [ We’re back! - T minus 3 Days ] Concert week is here! It’s been so long. How good to be able to come to a week of just rehearsals everyday, no worries about playing and forgetting the tempo or how we played it - since its literally been less than 24hrs. Had numerous strings break... literally just before rehearsal.. and when I say ‘just before rehearsal’ I mean like one minute before rehearsal... it decides to snap.. and of course - its going to be my top string which you... rarely need - but of course I need it for this concert Within the short span of 24hrs, I had: that harp string, my personal one at home and then the other harp (using 2 harps for orchestra) break 5 min later in rehearsal.. leaving us no choice but to fix the string in rehearsal whilst counting rests.. #harpproblems #orchestralife Nice throwback to when life was simple and string breakage wasn’t nearly as big of an issue. At that age, I didn’t tune my harp let alone change strings.. It also helped that I didn’t half of them at the time as well. Let’s ignore the raised shoulders.. I was young, excited and having fun. We’ve fixed it now which is the important thing #harp #arpa #harfe #throwback #music #musician #musiciansofinstagram #igmusicians
21.01.2022 [ We’re back - T Minus 1 Day - BTS ] In the wise words of my brother, concerts can often look ‘epic’ and ‘majestic’ but as a live performance or stream - its well live, so we have one shot to get it right. Here’s a sneak peak into what my practice space can look like when prepping for orchestra. Swipe to see how many devices I ‘need’ to practice.. #orchestralife ... #harp #harpist #music #musician #musiciansofinstagram #igmusicians #igmusician #harpa #harfe #arpa #orchestra #symphony
14.01.2022 The start of something new...? *cue HSM1* Whilst this covid season hasn’t been the best for the arts, its been a new experience of learning how to still keep creating. Its also allowed us to explore new things that we may not have had time to do. A cup half empty or half full right? Why look at the negatives that we can’t control? Had a bit of fun experimenting and playing with something new that I’d never done before. Effect Pedals. Yep. Apparently 7 pedals weren’t enough ... I had so much fun - a work in progress with lots to learn. for more to come #music #musician #harp #arpa #harfe #harpist #pedals #effectpedal #effectpedals #musiciansofinstagram #igmusicians
02.01.2022 [We’re back - Post Concert] Rehearsals Teaching/Work Concert ... What a week! It was so nice to play live with an actual audience?! My checklist suddenly looks smaller when I list it like that - but it didn’t feel that way - especially when I had to pay hefty parking fees to try and get there on time between everything.. Honestly, I so much fun - having played it 6 years ago, it was interesting to see how different the experience was.. I’m glad to know my years of the con actually paid off Last time I played Ein Heldenleben was before I started the con! What better way to commemorate than a nice blast to the past shot, the beginning of my orchestral journey as a harpist.. First year of playing in orchestra and why not go on an international tour right? All I can say is thank goodness for contact lenses - other than for aesthetic reasons - I hate playing harp with glasses largely due to needing to use your peripheral vision to look at your music, your strings/fingers and the conductor simultaneously.. #harp #harpist #arpa #harfe #music #musician #musiciansofinstagram #igmusicians #orchestra #throwback #aoyama #aoyamaprincesssakura #orchestra #orchestralife #practicalharpist
