It was great to see so many students, old and new, joining us after the COVID-19 restrictions lifted. It’s been a big term with many students siting their AMEB theory exams, trying out (and securing great roles) for musicals and plays, filming for eisteddfod entries, completing HSC and working with our new film equipment! Next term is always the ...highlight of the year, with our major end of year performance- this year it’s a film festival! We can’t wait to share and showcase all of our studio talent. Until then, keep performing in the holidays, join us at our School Holidays Boot Camp , or High School Workshop, and/or try out some movie making at home with a smart phone or your laptop! 16.01.2022 This year we’ve focused heavily on equipping the studio with everything students need to experiment with film and digital media. In class, students have had the opportunity to set up their own backdrops and lighting, play with GoPros, and shoot on smart phones. Teachers have experimented with a range of editing tools and have worked together with students to storyboard camera angles, sound and music decisions. This class work equipped students with the confidence they needed ...to collaborate with a professional film crew for their end of year showcase, the Grace Studios Film Festival. Students collaborated with sound and camera men, as well as an external producer, they marveled at the size of the professional camera, and LOVED capturing glimpses of themselves on screen. For those students working toward formal, internationally recognised qualifications in the arts, challenging written examinations are a yearly occurrence. Students learn to write in phonetics so to analyse accent and pronunciation. Essays explore voice production, theatre history, te...xt analysis, performance techniques and so much more! Marking can be tough with credits awarded at 75+, honours 85+ and a special shout out to Katie who received a very rare high distinction for 95+ . 05.01.2022 Our Friday high school drama class took a gingerly step...and another...and another into the horror genre last week . As a class they explored some more advanced camera angles and shots such as the 'over the shoulder' shot and the 'upward (and downward) pan'. This is often used to create continuous motion in a scene (great for action and horror films). It is also a great type of shot to catch the emotions and facial expressions of the subject.
