Stef and I had been speaking about an outdoor shoot when suddenly their beautiful house, the place they first brought baby Maddie home to, sold within days of going on the market! I didn’t want to miss this chance to create a memory for them in their first home together with their girl, so we made it happen and I’m so so glad we did

There are a million & one things about you that make you the best dad, here are just a few: You‘re always pumped for another episode of Bluey and peanut butter toast on a Saturday morning. You are as excited about the washing machine’s spin cycle as Sonny is. You are never too tired, stressed or ...busy to get on the floor and play hotwheels. You demand we watch Star Wars every Friday Night Movie Night and passionately teach Sonny all about the superiority of the originals (obviously) You are an expert song writer and story teller, even if you are disturbingly out of tune and make absolutely no sense. You love Math, which is ideal because I have no intention of helping our children with their Maths homework, ever. You make us laugh so hard, our house echos with side-splitting laugher every day because of you. You are present for your son every second, you look him in the eye, you listen to him, you hold him and remind him you’re always right here. You miss us even when we are in the next room. You are neck-breakingly impulsive and endlessly spontaneous in the best possible ways, our lives are so exciting because of you. You want the best for us, we are your first thought in the morning and your last at night, and we feel that every day. You don’t ever sweat the small stuff, you keep us grounded and calm any storm that reaches us. You can create the most beautiful memory out of the most mundane of days, just by being with us. You are teaching our son what it means to respect and adore his chosen partner, you’re teaching him how to say sorry first every single time, even if his partner doesn’t deserve it. You love it when I’m pregnant, and that itself is a noble and monumental feat. You want a big family, a car full of kids, a house brimming with babies, you want our lives to remain in this precious, crazy stage of child-rearing for as long as we can because you just know this is what life is about. 06.01.2022 Four years I’ve been married to this man. Four years since we stood underneath the redwoods in Big Sur and said what we’d been saying to each other for six years prior to that moment - that this thing we have is forever. Every anniversary we share, every special milestone our relationship reaches, I think about the quote I included in my vows, vows I somehow got through that day without ugly crying. As our nearest and dearest watched on, before the towering cathedral of... ancient trees, I vowed to him that the best days of our lives hadn’t even happened yet. But back then, I’m actually not sure I really believed my own promise. Because in that moment, in that magical place, looking up at him and holding his hand, I didn’t know how my days could have possibly gotten any better. Well now we here. Sharing more happiness than either of us ever conceived possible, because of our sunshine boy, and because of all the things we’ve done and become together in the last four years. Somehow, because of him, it all just keeps getting better. I know now, for sure and certain, that our love for each other today will surely be outdone tomorrow, and that’s a hell of a way to live. 06.01.2022 My poor dad. Every year on his birthday he gets completely ripped off. Having your birthday fall near a major holiday is a cross many have to bear, and in his case Father’s Day is always so close that my siblings and I take full advantage and usually cram both celebrations into one. The poor bloke. In recent years, to compensate for the countless double-up cards that read Happy Birthday/Father’s Day Dad! I created a gift that seems to cover all bases just nicely. His gra...ndson. Sonny is his favorite person and the feeling is more than mutual. Sonny loves his Papa so completely he sings about him at night in his crib, he runs squealing at the sight of him and he laughs harder with my Dad than with anyone else. And while their uniquely special bond is in large part due to their similar levels of maturity, shared appreciation for toilet humour and identical eating habits (both requiring bibs and drop cloths), it’s also because he’s just about the greatest man in the world. And Sonny knows it. My Dad is the sweetest man, the most loving and sensitive soul, smart as a whip yet forever forgetful, hilariously funny and all too easy to make fun of. He withstands our incessant teasing and gives us more love than we could ever need. He adores Sonny in a way I never imagined, I’ve watched his own life become so beautifully reinvigorated simply by his grandson’s existence, it’s so special to see. My Dad has shown me what it means to be truly present for your children. He’s taught me that you shouldn’t ever really grow up and always try to see the world through your child’s eyes. He’s given me, and now my own children, the gift of unconditional, unabashed love, a type of love that will carry us all through our entire lives.
