21.01.2022 The stripes on a belt are like an odometer, keeping track of the miles of the odyssey that is Jiu Jitsu. Professor Pedro Sauer awarded me with the rank of fourth degree on Saturday the 24th of April 2021. As he could not be here in person, the duty of placing the tape on my belt was bestowed to my good friend, excellent black belt and teacher Phil Grapsas. The last time I received a grade was my third degree from Pedro Sauer in Petropolis, Brazil, August 13th 2013, earlier t...hat week I had the honour of being Phil’s bad guy in his black belt test. Circumstances being as they are making it impossible for Pedro Sauer to be in the country, I am grateful and happy to have had my friend and training partner Phil Grapsas be able to do the honours. I was also privileged to witness a few friends get their black belts. Congratulations to Stephen Grapsas and Nick Mathews on their black belts and to Rodger Dio and Michael McManus on their brown and purple belts respectively. It was a good day I am grateful to have been part of it. Congratulations to all of those that graded successfully, you made your teacher quite proud and of course congratulations to the Leverage academy that has made a truly excellent team.

20.01.2022 A beginning is a very delicate time - Frank Herbert, Dune I had an excellent beginning. In Jiu Jitsu specifically my beginning was under the guidance of this man. John Will. John is unique and ahead of his time in many ways, an early adopter, always willing to investigate and search and apply simple logic in profound ways. He gave me the rock solid foundation in Jiu Jitsu that I still enjoy today and much of how I apply myself to what I do presently has been influenced by... his teachings during my time on his mat from white belt to black belt and beyond. As usual, one only truly appreciates anything in their past based on contrast and experience. Of course, I went on my own search. I studied under lots of great people and I am grateful for their input and knowledge and the time it took to assist me. Their influence has been welcomed and beneficial. The fact remains that regardless of where my search took me and how much I came to learn. The understanding I have now, is that all my experiences simply confirmed what I already had provided for me. In the beginning. Thank you John.
