25.01.2022 #wisdomwednesday Humility is a completely underrated virtue. As a society it can seem at times that we value the loudest, most self assured voice in the room. Humility is a mindset shift from a position ‘I know it all’ to ‘I’ll always have more to learn’.... Don’t get us wrong we are not advocating for a state of self deprecation or false humility, but rather one where we all acknowledge we have the capacity to be continuously curious and increase our knowledge. You might think that me saying that is the stupidest thing you’ve read today but hear me out. Sometimes we fixate so much on external circumstances to the point we make ourselves feel like our actions will change things completely out of our control. Despite any circumstances you will face in your life, whether inside or outside of your control, th...e one thing you can always have power over is your mind. In an environment where global events seem to be escalating every other week, it’s good to be informed but don’t get bogged down in the details. Focus on how you as an individual let external circumstances affect your mind and wellbeing. Control what you can control - your mind. People only have control over your mind if you let them. Recently I’ve been obsessed with the Michael Jorden documentary on Netflix and seeing his progression has been eye opening. It’s incredible how athletic he is but what I found more astounding was his insane work ethic and the amount of hours he spent in the gym working on his game. The greatest to ever play basketball practised more than anyone! The reason is simple, when you prepare for the big game, when the moment comes you’re not only physically ready but mentally. 12.01.2022 Finding a good mentor is an important step in establishing your career and ensuring it has longevity. You might ask: where do I find the right person? As a first point of contact a (good) line manger can provide a great resource for your organisation and it’s processes. It’s a great starting point when it comes to establishing a good working relationship and obtaining career advice. One tip we also tell grads is try and look for someone in your company that has a position y...ou are interested in (for the future) and strike up a relationship. The best way of getting to where you want is to ask people how they got there. Senior leaders, while time poor, can make fantastic mentors. In our experience when reaching out in the right way, most senior leaders are happy to meet and mentor grads so be bold and reach out. Make sure that when you meet with your mentor and you are goal setting you ensure each one is SMART: Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Relevant & Time Based. There’s an art to SMART objectives which we will cover in some later posts. 02.01.2022 #wisdomwednesday Proper preparation for anything in live is pivotal. No one likes training whether it’s sports or study but we sometimes forget it’s importance. It could be the early mornings or the hours and hours of dedication required, but more often than not we can start highly motivated and as time goes by the goal becomes blurry and our drive starts to diminish. The important truth is that training is absolutely pivotal for being a champion. The worlds greatest sport...smen and women, what separates them from the competition? Their dedication to being better. Pairing raw talent with unwavering dedication to continuously train to be the best. Continuity’s improvement will deliver continue results. Everyone of us has the ability to be a champion in an aspect of our lives, but it’s up to us to foster our drive. Focus on incremental progress. How can I change overtime to get where I need to go? It could be studying for an extra 30 minutes a day or doing more challenging exercises at the gym. Decide on short, medium and long term goals and track your progress. Find out what you are passionate about and strive to be the best, put in those hours and keep your goal in focus.
