25.01.2022 Just a reminder that it is best to keep your social distancing in place to keep everyone safe.

23.01.2022 Putting things together.

21.01.2022 Not the kind of post we like to put up - STOLEN - our brand new OREC Trail blazer power barrow. Taken from Murunna Point in Bermagui NSW. There aren’t a lot of ...these tools around the country so any notification of sightings of one of these would be greatly appreciated. Ours has a couple of different stickers on it than in this photo but is the same machine. Should anyone know anything or find the missing barrow we would be happy to offer a handsome reward. Cheers #Bermagui #Murunna Point #Wallagalake #CamelRock @visitbermagui @begavalleyshire @powermowers #Stolen See more

20.01.2022 A day in the hedges in a lovely simple styled garden. Always special when the owners designed planted and love working in the garden. Great to be able to help out tidying up the bones that frame this garden

19.01.2022 Settling soil before the winter really gets going. Why some ask. Well simply it takes a long time to make soil. Best do what you can to save challenges later. The loose sediment blows away in summer, greatly increases potential for weeds infestation, pollutes waterways and catchments, provides limited habitat, the list can go on. Frankly it can look awful.

18.01.2022 Nice week working amongst the reptiles.

16.01.2022 It’s going to be a warm afternoon

14.01.2022 The Myrtus communis is starting to take shape nicely. Dividing and relocating the Clivia below. For some it can be a little snakey close to the house. Both these plants are classic species from the 1908 homestead. Things are starting to come together very quickly now with the renovation.

12.01.2022 I thought I’d write a few points re avenue spacings as some may say the plantings are to close or to far apart. Things we consider are actually based on industry standards for street tree and avenue plantings. You can google it as you can google most things these days. They are also based on the clients requests. ... A Close spacing avenue is classed as 10 to 12m Advantages 1 Gives cathedral canopy 2 Quick shading 3 Less pruning of drooping branches as the canopy becomes more upright and less spreading. 4 A more upright growth habit 5 Trees are less susceptible to wind damage(this site is quite exposed to constant strong wind). 6 Client wanted the avenue to look like an avenue in their life time. Disadvantages 1 The outer trees are susceptible to wind damage 2 If any die the internal plantings are more exposed to wind. 3 More costly as you require more trees. This job already has the trees. Wide spacing avenue plantings industry standard is approx 20 m Advantages 1 less costly Disadvantages 1 The lower dropping branches require more regular pruning as the tree has potential for a more spreading habit. 2 Lower branches will develop a much thicker branch. More costly to remove. When removed they will create a larger wound with potential for disease increased. 4 larger spacings will require a longer time to form a shaded joined canopy. 5 Higher long term maintenance costs with regards to pruning. We have then spaced 7m from road centre. Measuring from the road centre is often preferable as an unsealed road edge can change over time depending on maintenance.

12.01.2022 Very happy with the results. Fortunate to be upcycling the local rocks from the property and to help out Chris Medcraft Earthworks with the additional rock and finishing touches.

11.01.2022 A season of rock it seems. Have really been enjoying putting the puzzles together. No Mortar. Drystone walling to suit the grand old restoration in progress.

11.01.2022 Getting the bones in order in anticipation for some autumn rains and plantings.

05.01.2022 Out in the hills. Working sediment control for the head of the catchment.

04.01.2022 Never underestimate the importance of mulching regularly and thickly. It’s been done for millions of years. Worth a watch if you can spare a few minutes.

03.01.2022 Helping out a good friend and fellow gardener with the replanting and better spacing for an avenue of London plane trees. These were planted quite a few years back and haven’t performed how they were expected. Showing signs of considerable stress. We’ve lifted the trees and found that they were planted with an auger. The roots have continued to grow in the shape of the pot and show very poor root development that will continue for the trees life. More then likely falling over years down the track due to poor anchorage, if they did manage to survive. We’ve now spaced them, lightly root pruned and planted with good compost. Elevating the root ball to reduce water logging in some areas with the heavy clay content. Then to mulch and lightly water in product.
