10.01.2022 28 November 2018 MEDIA RELEASE NSW Taxi Industry joins class action against Uber ... The NSW Taxi Council announced today that the NSW Taxi Industry will be joining a class action case against Uber, along with Western Australia and Queensland. The Class action is being led by high profile lawyers, Maurice Blackburn. The class action in NSW follows a claim in Victoria that has already commenced. CEO of the NSW Taxi Council, Martin Rogers said, Thousands of our members hard-working Australians, have been impacted by Uber’s actions. Taxi licence owners, operators and drivers have suffered enormously, both emotionally and financially, causing a significant impact on their livelihood. The NSW Taxi Council welcomes the opportunity for our members to recover some of their vast losses. The NSW Taxi Council has been actively working with Lawyers from Maurice Blackburn over the last six months, assisting with their investigation into the class action. Taxi Owners, Operators and Drivers have all met with representatives from Maurice Blackburn as part of the investigation process. Mr Rogers said, A class action is a positive step for the NSW Taxi Industry, as Uber needs to be held accountable for the time it operated in NSW outside of any Regulatory framework. We will continue to work with Maurice Blackburn and monitor any developments in relation to the class action proceeding. The NSW Taxi Council is encouraging taxi licence owners, operators and drivers to visit the Maurice Blackburn website to register their interest at www.mauriceblackburn.com.au/uberclassaction For any media enquiries, please contact Nick Abrahim, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the NSW Taxi Council.
