22.01.2022 Warning Hot weather ahead! Be prepared. Did you know? Horses should drink approximately 50mls of water per kg bodyweight daily. Meaning for every 100 kg of body weight, your horse or pony should be drinking 5 litres per day. An average 500 kg horse should be drinking 25 litres a day. However, this requirement WILL increase during hot weather, if the horse is exercised, in lactating mares or unwell horses(especially if they have diarrhoea).... During this time, we encourage owners to: Provide shelter for your horse to get out of the sun. Provide fresh, clean water to encourage drinking. Put water in their feed to increase water intake. Sprinkle chaff on top of a bowl of water. The horse or pony will take in some water while trying to eat the chaff. Soaking hay in water before feeding will increase water content in the feed and help to keep the intestinal content moist.

21.01.2022 Happy Halloween Although Halloween is not a holiday that all celebrate here in Australia, its popularity certainly seems to be growing every year. If you’re celebrating please remember this important information to help keep your pets safe! *For pets, eating sugary, high-fat lollies can lead to painful & potentially fatal pancreatitis. (inflammation of the pancreas) ... *Chocolate is toxic to pets Signs of chocolate toxicity include; tremors, nervousness, vomiting, diarrhea, increased heart rate & in severe cases, seizures & death. *Lollipop sticks & plastic Can cause intestinal obstruction & potentially rupture the intestines. *Yummy-smelling wrappers Ingestion of foil & cellophane wrappers can also cause life-threatening obstruction. *Small hard lollies are a choking hazard *Healthy human food can be toxic for pets. Raisins & grapes are poisonous to dogs. If eaten they can cause kidney failure. *If you dress your pet; pay close attention to elastic on the costume & ensure it is not too tight or that it can get lost in their hair. It may lead to swelling & pain in the area of the elastic. *Never leave pets alone in a costume! Pets could chew & ingest materials. *Don't dye or apply colouring to your pet’s fur. Even if the dye is labeled nontoxic to humans, it could still be harmful to pets. Always read labels carefully. *Halloween can be fun for you & your children but it can be very scary for your animals, who don’t understand. *Costumes & decorations that make noise or flap around, may frighten them. Resulting in injury to you, your pet or both. *Keep your pets indoors Often people are trick or treating, going from door to door. Keep your pet in a quiet & safe place on Halloween. If you suspect that your pet is in need of veterinarian attention please call us on 66423681 If your pet has a medical emergency outside of our trading hours please contact - 66427442

10.01.2022 2021 will be here in a blink of an eye! With that being said, we are wanting to create a calendar with images of our own patients! If you have any photos of your pet (no humans) that you’d allow us to use on our 2021 calendar, forward them through to our inbox. Please remember that unfortunately not everyone’s pet/s will be featured on the calendar due to limited spaces. We will select them at random. ... These calendars will be free to our clients. *Entries close 5:30 on Friday the 30th of October

07.01.2022 During this hot weather we must pay particular attention to the needs of our pets. Ensure your pets have: Constant access to clean cool water Always provide more than one drinking bowl on hot days in case one gets knocked over. Have the bowls in the shade so the water can stay as cool as possible. Shade & shelter from the sun. If you have provided a kennel, it must also be in a shaded place. ... Provide a paddle pool & place some wet towels on the floor inside to help stay cool Freeze large ice cubes (water in ice cream containers) and give them to your pet to lick & gnaw on. This helps to keep them cool & hydrated. You could even add their favourite treats. Put ice blocks into their water NEVER leave your pet inside a car on days of extreme heat. Outside temperatures can almost double inside a closed vehicle in a matter of seconds. Don't take your pet/s out for a walk until the sun has gone down - the ground is still very hot & will burn their paws See more

04.01.2022 We've been getting more calls about young echidnas, also known as "puggles". At this time of year, female echidnas may be carrying either an egg or a small ...echidna. Echidnas do not actually have a permanent pouch. Instead they have contracting muscles in their abdomens, which form a pouch-like fold. If you see an adult echidna by the side of the road that has been hit by a vehicle please stop and check, where it is safe to do so. If it needs assistance please call WIRES 1300 094 737. Check the nearby area for puggles, as you can see they can look like small golf balls and the impact of a collision can cause them to roll quite some distance away.

04.01.2022 Today we had the pleasure of BirdyBird visiting our clinic! As you can see he & nurse Bianca became great friends

04.01.2022 Entries have now closed for our 2021 calendar We are overwhelmed with the response, with over 130 images received! Unfortunately though, that does mean not everyone’s pet/s will be present on the 2021 calendar. We will do our best to include as many of our patients as possible. Stay tuned on our facebook page for updates on when they will be available!
