25.01.2022 This was Lakeside, 25th July 1971, the Australian Touring Car Championship meeting. While John French drove the Super Falcon in the ATCC round, Pete Geoghegan couldnt resist having a drive in the support races. This classic shot shows him in the Ford Falcon GTHO Super Falcon being chased by Norm Beechey in the Monaro GTS 350 as they attack the notorious Hungry (or KLG) Corner.
25.01.2022 The Ford Capri V6 of Kevin Bartlett and John Keran here in the 1971 Dulux Rally, run between 7th and 16th August 1971. This was taken in the first Queensland night stage from Lakeside Raceway out to Goondiwindi. They went on to finish in fifth place.

24.01.2022 6th February, 1972, the Rothmans 100, round 5 of the Tasman Series for F5000. First 2 litre car home was Gary Campbell in his Waggott powered Elfin 600B/E, shown here turning in under the bridge at top speed.

23.01.2022 Round 5 of the 1972 Tasman Series was held at Surfers Paradise International Raceway, 6th February 1972. This is Kevin Bartlett in his McLaren M10B in the opening laps of the event.

22.01.2022 Brian Foley in the Chesterfield Filter Racing Porsche 911S coming out of the Karrussell at Lakeside during the running of round 6 of the Australian Touring Car Championship, 26th July 1970.
21.01.2022 The Glyn Scott Memorial Trophy, a round of the Gold Star series 27th August 1972. This is Garrie Cooper in the Elfin MR5 rounding the esses on his way to fifth place.
21.01.2022 Bob Stevens in the Barry Sharp Mustang at Lakeside, 11th March 1973. Not the best weekend for him as he left a smokescreen behind him at the Karrussell midway through this race.
21.01.2022 Lakeside International Raceway, 27th July 1969, the Craven Filter Gold Medal Series for Touring Cars saw a top field of all the usual suspects. Alan Hamilton in the Porsche 911T leads the field away for a race long duel with Norm Beechey in the GTS 327 HK Monaro, Peter Manton in the Cooper S and Bob Jane in his Trans Am Mustang.
21.01.2022 The Festival of Speed on Tweed in September 2003 saw an impressive line-up of historic race machines, including the ex-Stan Jones Maybach Special, owned and driven by Bob Harborow.
21.01.2022 The 1770cc Datsun 1200 Coupe of Harry Doling was impressive at the 2002 Historic Noosa Hillclimb, ending up with second place in his class, Touring Cars 1600cc to 2 litres.
19.01.2022 Lakeside International Raceway, 7th June 1970, the Governors Trophy, Gold Star Round 2 of the Australian Drivers Championship. Kevin Bartlett in Alec Mildrens Mildren Waggott TC4V. KB qualified in second and shared the front row of the grid with teammate Max Stewart but dropped out with a mechanical issue at around half distance.

17.01.2022 The "Renault Rallye Sportive" held on the 31st March 1973 was the second round of the Queensland Rally Championships for that year. This is the Twin Cam Escort of Bruce Turner and Noel Gibson in the opening stage at the Nerang Forestry area south of Brisbane.
17.01.2022 A good day at work for Kevin Bartlett, the Governors Trophy at Lakeside International Raceway, 6th June 1971. Kevin in his McLaren M10B had a runaway win, Max Stewart in the Mildren Waggott being the only other competitor finishing on the same lap 24 seconds in arrears.

15.01.2022 Glyn Scott at Lakeside in his Bowin P3 and Lotus 23B. These were taken at the Lakeside meetings on 1st June 1969 and 27th August 1969.
15.01.2022 A bit of history from Exhibition Speedway, in February 1936 Frank Arthur brought out midget speedcars and drivers from England to race on tracks here run by his... Empire Speedways group. The first meeting at the Ekka was 22nd February and was attended by a crowd of 7,000 people to watch the cars and bikes in action. The midget drivers were led by Jean Reville (whose Gnat racer is easily identifiable in the video clip), Bud Stanley, Norman French, Ted Starkey, Jack Wilson and others. After the completion of the midget car test series the English drivers returned home except for Jean Reville who stayed and took up residence here in Brisbane. He lived on his farm on Cavendish Road at Mt Gravatt where he also had sales agencies for farm equipment, tractors and Morgan sports cars. The film clip is part of one of the early newsreels that were shot by Paul Ruckert, copies of his films are now preserved in the State Library of Queensland. This footage would have been a practice session at the Ekka sometime between February and March 1936. See more
15.01.2022 The Australian Grand Prix at Lakeside International Raceway, 2nd February 1969. Glyn Scott was one of the top local contenders in the ANF2 category in his Cosworh FVA powered Bowin P3. He also ran a Lotus 23B in sports car events at the time.

14.01.2022 For the 1970 Australian Touring Car Championship season, Jim McKeown swapped from his Cortinas into Porsches. Here he is in action in various events at Lakeside International Raceway in 1970 and 1971.
13.01.2022 Another of my favourite shots from the Historic Noosa Hillclimb. 1999 was the second year the event was held on the Noosa hill, the entry list was 143 cars covering all eras. This is Alec Lowe in his Citroen Light 15 giving it his all as he heads towards the finish line.

11.01.2022 Porsches were not a common sight on the Australian rally scene, probably more suited to European tarmac rallying than our rough local conditions back in the sixties and seventies. One of the most prominent fans of the marque was Dean Rainsford from South Australia, here in his 911S with navigator Graham West in the Warana Rally, 21st/22nd September 1974, round 4 of the 1974 Australian Rally Championship.
08.01.2022 The inaugural Noosa Historic Hillclimb was held over the weekend of the 21st/22nd November 1998. This is Dean Tighe in the Chevron B37 taking a nice tight line through one of the corners near the top of the hill.
