24.01.2022 Happy cows! Keeping pasture quality high as we head into summer is crucial in keeping your cost of production low. Later heading ryegrass varieties keep their quality for longer than shorter heading varieties which is important to consider when calculating your feed ration for your dairy herd or finishing beef cattle. It also increases the window for producing good quality silage. Contact the team at Graham's Seeds to discuss your pasture options for 2021!

24.01.2022 Although there are some pests around, there are also some fantastic summer crops in Gippsland this year... Check out this Summer Fodder blend on the Bass Coast!!! Ready to graze

23.01.2022 What a year for clover! These paddocks of our "Multimax" Italian ryegrass and clover mix are performing really well for John Nelson in Longwarry North. Following a couple of grazings they're now ready for a silage cut (whenever we get some sunshine!) With plenty of moisture this mix will continue to perform well into January

23.01.2022 We are still seeing pest infestations, now is a good time to get down and have a look or give one of the team a call to come and have a look see and work out a plan. Also with the season in the east kicking away, lets pick those paddocks for silage to keep excellent quality in the pastures. Remember to look after first year perennial pastures and avoid cutting for hay to ensure the best opportunity to go to seed and come through summer strong!

22.01.2022 You might remember a couple of photos we showed off back at the start of the month out at Ilowalong. Well, this is the same property! 5 weeks later and look at that growth! Complete with a beautiful puppy.

22.01.2022 STEVE IS ON THE MOOOOVE! Some of you will have already gotten to know this familiar face. Steve joined us in November last year to help us provide the experienced service youve come to expect from our team. Steve has been a dairy farmer his whole life but last year he had back surgery that left him feeling unable to continue with dairying. So Steve and his wife Sally made the decision to sell the farm and pursue other thingsturns out you can take the man out of the dairy bu...t you cant take dairy out of this man and hes returning to his calling. So we are sad to say that Steve is leaving us to head back into dairy farming. Hes got some land with an old dairy that they will revive to milk a smaller herd than he had before. Steve said he loves working outdoors, loves the nature of cows and hes learned a lot about grass and crops that hes keen to put into action. Were definitely going to miss him around here but farming can be a calling and those girls are calling him back. From all of us at Grahams Seeds, wed like to send Steve, Sally and their three children our very best wishes.

21.01.2022 We are still seeing cool soil temps friends!

19.01.2022 Red & white clover can be great tools for improving pasture quality through summer with higher levels of crude protein than grass species. This red clover plant is starting to go reproductive following an autumn sowing. Allowing your pasture to go reproductive and set seed in its first spring can be very important for improving the persistence of the paddock and therefore improving the return on investment of your seed purchase.

18.01.2022 Farmworld is coming up fast! We hope to see you all there, make sure you register for your tickets online before the event!!!

18.01.2022 Revolution BMR sorghum getting cut for silage today at Jake Seuren's in Lang Lang! BMR varieties produce higher quality silage than non-BMR sorghums so they will often result in more weight gain in beef and more milk when fed to a dairy herd. This can come with a slight yield penalty, so it's important to think of when you'll be feeding out your sorghum silage to help you decide which variety will work best #grahamseeds... #sorghumsilage See more

09.01.2022 With plenty of moisture around here's a reminder to keep an eye out for pests in your summer crops! Armyworm are still being observed in many paddocks, so keep an eye on your maturing crops and perennial pastures to assess damage. If conditions are cold, they can often be found hiding under the decaying organic matter from the previous crop or even in surface root mat. Look for brassica plants with leaves missing and dying on the ground where they have been chewed through the stem, as this photo shows. Armyworm have a wide range of crops they find tasty, so if you're unsure what to look for give the team at Graham's Seeds a call!
