24.01.2022 A wonderful note of thanks from our friend and former Grail Quest student Willow: Dearest Gerry, My heartfelt thanks to you for all you have brought forth during the course of this years Grail Quest, especially for encouraging me to find my voice and express it authentically.... I'm so grateful for your guidance and support through the biography work, to explore my past, examine my present and imagine my future... to unfold and discover my destiny. The journey through the lectures, the depth, richness and mystery contained within have inspired my thoughts, elevated my imagination and enriched my soul life in an undescribably profound way. For you to bear and uphold this Divine wisdom and then to deliver it so meticulously and with such care, warmth, patience and humour has been a great blessing for all of us. In Steiner's words, may we all go forth in freedom. Willow (2013 graduate)

22.01.2022 There are many gateways to understanding the human being in general and ourselves in particular. The world of the senses for example is much more complex than science cognises. The great Austrian spiritual scientist, Rudolf Steiner, points to our having 12 senses, including senses of balance, movement, life, warmth, thought and so on. Each sense brings us very different types of information and experiences.... Coming to our senses is a step on the road to self knowledge. Do we under-use some and over-use others? Coming to understand the full range of the senses, learning how to care for and develop them, we transform ourselves and the quality of our lives. Steiner also described 12 different view-points with which one can approach reality. As we tend to observe things from only one viewpoint, we fail to communicate with those whose standpoint differs from our own. A complete picture of any phenomenon requires that we see it from all 12 points of view. Human beings are also of different soul types. The soul types relate to the planets, but all men are certainly not from Mars, nor all women from Venus: we are much more individual than that. Recognising our own soul type and that of others enables us to relate to each other and to ourselves with greater understanding. In the life before birth, we designed our current lives (and chose our parents and friends) with a view to fulfilling past karma and opening new possibilities. With this as a starting point our biographies look very different. We can see how much we grow through adversity and obstacles, and how essential it is that we take responsibility for who we are and what we are trying to become. These are just a few of the many new ways of approaching life that open up for us during the GRAIL QUEST a two year journey into an enhanced understanding of the Earth, humanity and ourselves. 22.01.2022 A lovely letter of thanks from former student Orit.

18.01.2022 Have a listen to this podcast interview I did with the wonderful Tanya Coburn of Human Wisdom dot Org. We go on a deep dive into my early years and, of course, Grail Quest. If you're curious to learn about how Grail Quest came to be, and some of the deeper aspects of Anthrosophical Teacher-Training, this is for you. Here's Tanya's intro to the pod:... "Motivated by experiences at Emerson College in his twenties, Gerry Josephson seeks to enthuse and encourage adults through the wisdom of Rudolf Steiner's work. Using his passion for speech and drama, and his personal research into the deep roots of anthroposophy, he continues to offer adult education experiences through a course called 'Grail Quest', now located in Hobart, Tasmania. After growing up in South Africa, travelling to the UK, and later spending a year in New York, Gerry was unexpectedly guided to train in speech and drama in Australia after his studies at Emerson College, and stayed here to share his experiences and his wisdom. The theme of courage rings through this interview as Gerry urges us to bring our unique creativity inspired by human wisdom into the world." https://soundcloud.com/user-/gerry-josephson-human-wisdom-9 #anthroposophy #steiner #steinereducation #eurythmy #rudolfsteiner #adulteducation #hobart #tasmania

09.01.2022 There is much confusion surrounding the words 'I', ego and self. At different times the same words are used to refer to fundamentally opposite sides of the human being. Cutting through the semantic confusion we might refer to the lower 'ego' as that which is concerned with the things of this world and our wish to possess them for ourselves to the exclusion of others, ie., egotism. On the other hand, the higher 'ego' refers to the spiritual part of ourselves, the part which is... eternal. It is who we truly are and is part of the Divine. Since the ego is such a two-edged sword, the spiritual quest must involve the recognition of both aspects, learning how to live with and reconcile the two. The archetype of the modern spiritual quest is the story of Parsifal, a naïve boy whose long, difficult journey leads him from dullness, through doubt, to a state of grace becoming the Grail King. This medieval epic by Wolfram von Eschenbach unfolds in picture form the stages of the modern path of initiation. The old ascetic paths involved a voluntary renunciation of the lower ego of everything that connected to the Earth. The modern path, with its archetype of the Grail Knight, is a path that leads us to the spirit in the midst of daily life. Instead of relinquishing our ties to the Earth, the modern path involves embracing the Earth and working to transform and spiritualise it. Anthroposophy or Spiritual Science, as unfolded by Rudolf Steiner, is a modern Grail path. It leads us towards finding the spiritual principles underlying all aspects of being and the way to infuse our daily realities with spiritual content. It is for this reason that Anthroposophy is so practically based, with new approaches to education (Waldorf/Steiner schools), farming (Biodynamics) and almost every other aspect of living. This spiritual path and the wisdom that emerges from it form the basis of Grail Quest: a two-year spiritual journey for those who wish not only to transform themselves but to transform the world as well.
