25.01.2022 Hear this so often when someone is suffering from systemic chronic or gut inflammation. Another flag for low testosterone- lack of motivation in general.

21.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE... Here at Pro-Active we are open as normal, we want you to know this is a safe and clean environment and we are doing what we can to keep it th...is way. In our waiting room we have taken away chairs to ensure we have social distancing and our reception staff are continually going around throughout the day wiping the chairs down with disinfectant spray aswell as the desk and eftpos machine. In our rooms after each patient our Physio’s wipe down the bed with disinfectant spray, replace towels and pillow cases to ensure the room is as clean as possible. In our gym area the equipment is wiped down with disinfectant wipes after being used. At Pro-active we are lucky to have a washing machine and dryer to wash all of our towels, pillow cases and gowns to ensure they are clean and ready to go all throughout the day. To keep Pro-Active as germ free as possible we do kindly ask if you are feeling unwell or have any flu like symptoms that you cancel your appointment (you will not be charged a cancellation fee). Thankyou for your understanding and cooperation during this unprecedented time See more

20.01.2022 A great read addressing a number of issues, very honest and thought provoking.

19.01.2022 NEW SMARTPHONE APP HELPING DIABETICS WORK OUT WHAT TO EAT Hunter New England Health researchers are trialling an app they hope will help patients with... Type-1 diabetes better regulate their insulin levels. The app is being developed in collaboration with the University of Newcastle and the Hunter Medical Research Institute. Senior dietitian at the John Hunter Children's Hospital Dr Carmel Smart is developing the app working with paediatric patients and their parents. She says the app works out the insulin requirements for fats and proteins, NOT just the carbohydrates traditionally measured in diabetic eating plans. "If you're just dosing according to carbohydrates, you get those peaks and troughs," she said. "If you dose for protein, fat and carbohydrate you don't get those peaks and troughs as much. "The other great thing is that then people don't feel worried about eating certain foods, because as we all know if you have to restrict your food for health, you often want to eat more of it." Newcastle local, Cecile Le Roux says the app has given her five year old daughter Elaine, who has Type-1 diabetes, more freedom. Ms Le Roux says Elaine's quality of life has improved after they found adding more meat to her diet evened out her insulin needs. "I feel it definitely improved my quality of life, because I don't have to remember or have a notebook with all the carbohydrate contents of food with me," she said. "So the app, because it has a database, I don't have to remember, and I can google and it's immediately there, that definitely helped me a lot."

06.01.2022 Having just returned from a Sports Dietitian conference focused on exertional heat stress during sport ahead of Tokyo 2020. This is a great example of organisers ensuring the safety of participants, as the effects of EIHS can be far reaching in terms of gut damage and inflammatory effects which last past the initial recovery phase.

05.01.2022 Performance-enhancing drugs have the ability or potential to drastically alter the human body and biological functions. It is incredibly important to understand the severe effects they have and just how dangerous they can be! Here is a great article by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency:

03.01.2022 The headline is wrong, babies do have a sweet tooth, because everyone has the T1CR receptor on their tongues. That's why the food industry puts the sugar in, because the kids love it! And that's exactly why it has to come out!

03.01.2022 IMPORTANT REMINDER: The WADA Prohibited List will come into effect on the 1st of January 2019! Are you aware of all the changes? Have you double-checked your medication? Make sure you #KnowTheFacts!
