14.01.2022 Some quick tips about pre harvest cleaning from the guys at GRDC Grain Storage Extension team. Remember, this can be done as soon as the silo is empty, Dryacide / Permaguard does not break down or lose its effectiveness. It will take at least 7/9 days to work so don’t leave it until the day before you want to use the silo. You’ll know you’ve used enough if there is a thin layer of Diatomaceous Earth across the floor of the storage a few hours after application. This method will work in all silo types. Send us a message for tips on preparing sheds. https://youtu.be/MA7tmtXCcQM

12.01.2022 Aeration FAQ’s Q: Do I still need to put chemical on the grain or fumigate if I have aeration? A: Yes! Aeration does not kill insects or prevent infestations. If used in conjunction with a controller, properly designed aeration will reduce the temperature down to a level (<15 degrees C) which will put the insects into a state of dormancy but won’t kill them. ... Q:Will aeration dry my grain? A: It can do but if your hoping to fill your silo with high moisture grain and then switch on the fans to dry it, you’re wasting your time and gambling with your grain. Cooling aeration systems have flow rates of around 2L per second per ton. Drying systems have flow rates of around 15L per second per ton filling the silo with only 10-15% of the capacity of the silo and running the aeration system when the humidity levels are low can be an effective way of drying small parcels of grain without too much effort. The below GRDC article provides some excellent tips and advice on managing high moisture grain and drying using conventional systems. https://grdc.com.au//principles-of-aerating-grain-for-cool

05.01.2022 The new 50t protection packs take the hassle out of stores knowing what to sell, and farmers what to purchase when looking for a small volume fix for treating grain. Designed to bring together the new 1L K-Obiol bottle from Bayer and the new 1L bottle from Imtrade Aus the 50t protection packs will be available to all stores stocking these products. These packs have no witholding, are well priced and are a proven combination across the eastern states and have a minimum of 9 months protection against all grain insect. Never before has it been easier to walk past the IGR twin packs which so many users seem reluctant to move on from.

04.01.2022 How do you put Phosphine blankets into a bunker? This is how we put them in....... Plan where each blanket will go in the bunker making sure you space the blankets out evenly along and across the bunker, I like to make the cuts close to the seams or joins so that they can easily be removed with the seams after they’ve been used, unless you have a welder or heat gun in which case, the slots can go almost anywhere. ... Step 1 - Get your self an extendable paint roller pole from a hardware store, make sure it goes to 3m. Get the cheapest or an old paint roller and cut the end off like the picture below. Step 2 - Wearing a full face respirator with combined gas and particle filter and elbow length gloves, remove the blankets from the packaging. Step 3 - Cut a slit in your tarp running top to bottom, 2-3m up from the bottom of the bunker. Step 4 - Unroll the blanket, away from the slit, put the cut down paint roller point through the eyelet, slide the blanket into the slit, along the bunker and on top of the grain. Repeat these steps to put a blanket in the same slit in the opposite direction. Take care not to have either blanket under the slit incase it leaks water, push the blankets in further. Step 5 - Seal the slit using a welder, butyl tape or some other adequate sealing method. This is important as a leaking slit will not only let gas out, but it would let water in which other than grain damage, could make the blankets catch fire.

04.01.2022 Vehicle and Room Sanitisers COVID-19 In line with Grain Protect offering sanitising fumigations using Chlorine Dioxide, we now have vehicle and small room DIY sanitising kits. Each sanitising kits react with moisture in the air to create Chlorine Dioxide a powerful virucide, biocide and fungicide. Chlorine Dioxide is used to sanitise, remove odour and kill mould in many different applications. If your business has vehicles used by different people then an ExStinkt sanitisin...g kit will keep it clean and free from offensive odours. We have 2 different kits available Slow release This kit releases 0.1ppm of Chlorine Dioxide per hour when used as per instructed. This level of gas is safe for people and is effective against mould odours and viruses, for example Chlorine Dioxide is effective against influenza at 0.03ppm. We recommend this product for use in vehicles, machinery and offices of not more than 24m3. Fast release This kit releases a total of 700mg/L of Chlorine Dioxide in 3 hours, it must ONLY be used in the vacant rooms or vehicles. This kit is designed to be used in the following situations. Sanitisation of vehicles and rooms less than 24m3. Removal of odours from homes, rental accommodation, vehicles, marine vessels. Destroys airborne pathogens in animal husbandry, horticultural and agricultural applications Kills mould in bathrooms and from water ingress in homes. For larger sanitisation situations, we offer a sanitising fumigation. We can sanitise an entire building, in half a day. 04.01.2022 Phosphine FAQ Q: Will putting phosphine in the top of a silo work better than putting it in the bottom because the gas is heavier than air? A: Phosphine moves around a silo with air currents created by convection (temperature differences) or with a recirculation system. As long as the tablets or blankets are placed within the convection currents (anywhere within or on the grain) or the recirculating air stream the Phosphine will move through the whole storage.
