25.01.2022 Big day of cricket action to unfold at Central Park tomorrow in the A Grade contest. Youth Club were able to defend 114 bowling Swifts Great Western out for 105 in their first innings. Trouble struck for Youth Club at 4-13 but were able to finish the day at 4-110. Both sides with every opportunity to take home the final which will make for a big and fantastic day of cricket action tomorrow. Best of luck to both sides.

25.01.2022 The Henry Gunstone Cup final was played today in Stawell between Swifts /Great Western and St Andrews. The combine won the toss and elected to have a bat on a warm and muggy afternoon. St Andrews struck early removing Sam Cocks for just two and then quickly picked up Tom Eckel to have leave the combine at 2/23. Charlie Nield set about putting some respect into the score with a gritty 24 and when he departed the score was 5/69 with just six overs left. But like the day earlie...r Matt Heffer and Jay Moody came together and scored freely in the last few overs to set a very respectable 7/114 for St Andrews to chase down. Adam Haslett was the pick of the bowlers for St Andrews taking 3/26 off his four overs. St Andrews innings started on the back foot with Moody removing Tom Mills in the first over of the innings. Ned Bohner and Haslett put together a partnership which swung the balance of the game yet again. Bohner also recovered after being struck in the helmet by a Jamie Bach bouncer early on. Haslett was dismissed with the score on 49 which saw Riley Taylor come out and get on with the scoring. When he (19) and Bohner (24) were removed quickly St Andrews were on the back foot from there out. They finished their 20 overs at 8/86. Jayden McCartney took 3/17 off three overs.

24.01.2022 Third game required in the A Grade Grand Final Series. Buangor Tatyoon have levelled the one day finals series one apiece after the second game at Central Park this afternoon. Batting first Swifts/Great Western struggled for consistency with the bat today with Buangor/Tatyoons bowlers setting a tone early. All batters for Swifts/Great Western got somewhat of a start but losing wickets regularly hurt the run rate. With the score at 5/60 with 10 overs left Jamie Bach and Matt... Heffer up the run rate for the last 10 and scored 59 runs. Heffer finished 36 not out and Bach finished 26 not out. Swifts innings finished at 5/119. Michael Harricks finished with 2/10 off 8 overs including 6 maidens. In reply Buangor/Tatyoon started off shakily losing 5 wickets inside 12 overs to be sitting at 5/39. It was left to Jacob Bates and Harricks to go about winning the game and that they did. A 52 run partnership saw the momentum swing back to Buangor/Tatyoon and then Bates was dismissed for 29 with the score on 91. Harricks continued on with another wicket falling at the other end he didn’t stress. He saw Buangor/Tatyoon home with 13 balls to spare with 40 not out. Jay Moody and Heffer finished with 3 wickets each. Tomorrow’s decider will be at Tatyoon tomorrow with the winner taking home the A Grade premiership. Good luck to both teams.

16.01.2022 And cricket is back in 2020..

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Aradale Cricket Club in winning the B grade grand final today. After the first 2 games were completed, it was one all leading into the 3rd game. But the experience of Aradale was too strong & they ran out comfortable winners in game 3. Tyler Cronin winning the medal as best player over the 3 days.

16.01.2022 Grampians Cricket Association B Grade Grand Final Preview: The B Grade Grand Final this year will be competed between Aradale and Buangor/Tatyoon the top two teams for the B Grade this year. Both of these team played in the A grade competition last season but this year with some doubt around players both dropped back to the B grade competition to remain playing cricket. This year both teams won 9 games each with Aradale taking first spot due to percentage but Buangor/Tatyoon ...were not far behind. The last time these two teams met was the first game back after the Christmas break with Aradale taking the win by 8 runs in a tight match at Buangor. This is probably what to expect across the three one match format this weekend, three very tight matches. This season Aradale have been the leading run scorers in the B grade competition with 2037 runs led by captain Riley Wood and Brody Taylor who have made over 900 runs between them this season. Whilst in contrast Buangor/Tatyoon have been the leading wicket takers across the season picking up 103 wickets for the home and away season. Charlie Dyer, James Phillips and Callum Baker have been the chief destroyers for Buangor/Tatyoon. This will be where the game is won and lost for both teams with Aradale relying on their batting to set a competitive total and Buangor/Tatyoon looking to their bowling to restrict Aradale's dangerous batsmen. Aradale captain Riley Wood said Monday night that Aradale will go in full of confidence. "We have a side that has plenty of cricketing experience and some youngsters that have been able to learn a lot across the year from these older guys. We are confident in both our batting and bowling and need to take the chances with both bat and ball when they come." Buangor/Tatyoon representative Brett Chammings said that his side will hopefully be at full strength for the weekend's matches. "We are hoping all of our guys are right for this weekend. If we can field what we see as a full strength side we think we will be able to win the Final. We have a strong bowling attack but know their batting is their strong point. Hopefully our opening batters are able to take the shine off the ball for our lower order to do some damage." The B Grade contest kicks off on Saturday at Gordon Street Oval Ararat at 1pm before going to Buangor for Sunday and then returning to Gordon Street on Monday if required. It will be a best of three one day match format.

12.01.2022 4 in a row. Swifts/Great Western have claimed their 4th premiership in a row after winning today in Tatyoon. Batting first for the third day in a row Swift’s/Great Western were after plenty of runs. Sam Cocks 49 top scored for the game after missing out the previous game. There was plenty of contributions from across the board in the Swifts/Great Western innings with Rick Peters (14) Charlie Nield (38*) Matt Heffer (12) and Jamie Bach (20) all reaching double figures in the... way to setting a total of 7/147. James Phillips was again the pick of the Buangor/Tatyoon bowlers taking 3/19 off his 8 overs. For Buangor/Tatyoon it couldn’t have been a worse start. Jarrod Blandford was dismissed second ball of the innings off the bowling of Bach. Sam Cronin went in the next over bowled by Heffer and Shaun Allen last a couple of overs but was also dismissed by Heffer leaving Buangor/Tatyoon 3/1 and a big mountain to climb. Tyler Cronin and Jacob Bates came together to try and salvage something for Buangor/Tatyoon but when Cronin was dismissed for 14 by Heffer for his third wicket and the score was 4/31. From there regular wickets fell with Bates the only Buangor/Tatyoon batsman to get a real start scoring 38. Buangor/Tatyoon were bowled out for 90 in the 37th over. This years Steve Wombat Smith was voted across the three individual games with both umpires voting 3/2/1 and the highest vote getter the Wombat Medallist for this season. The winner of the 2020/21 Wombat Medal was Matt Heffer from Swifts/Great Western who had a three good games with both the bat and ball. Congratulations to both teams on great seasons. Thanks to the umpires for their three days of work as well.

12.01.2022 Two men who received their life memberships at the annual presentation night. Geoff Phillips & Phil Rodger. Congratulations to both of them on their contributions to GCA cricket over a long period of time. They were well deserved accolades.

11.01.2022 A Grade Day One Wrap Up: Winning the toss the home team sent Swifts/Great Western into bat. It was a tough start for Swift’s/Great Western who found it tough to score early on with Buangor/Tatyoon operating with spin for the majority of the early overs. Sam Cocks (27) was the first to depart after being stumped off the bowling of James Phillips. Phillips continued his good bowling removing Rick Peters and Jesse Eckel shortly there after. Charlie Nield and Tom Eckel steadied t...he ship and put on 76 for the fourth wicket before Nield (33) fell to Mick Harricks with just six over left. Eckel fell just short of his 50 finishing on 49. Swift’s finished their innings on 7/151. Phillips was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 3/18 off 8 overs. Buangor/Tatyoon’s innings started off on the wrong foot with captain Jarrod Blandford caught brilliantly by Jesse Eckel at point off the bowling of Jamie Bach on the second ball of the first over. From there it was difficult for Buangor/Tatyoon batsman to get set and get partnerships together. Tyler Cronin was the only batsman to score in double figures reaching 12. The Swift’s bowlers soread the wickets between them with 2 apiece to Bach, Matt Heffer, Jay Moody and Nield. Buangor/Tatyoon were bowled out for 41. Tomorrow’s game is at Central Park starting at 1pm.

Marc has hit the ground running and working towards starting as soon as possible with the easing of current Covid-19 restrictions.

07.01.2022 Chalambar crowned B Grade Premiers. Chalambar have taken out the B Grade grand final today after beating Rhymney/Moyston today at Moyston. Batting first Moyston were well held by tight Chalambar bowling and a slowish outfield. Nathan Quick and Daniel Taylor anchored the Rhymney/Moyston innings. Rhymney/Moyston finished their 35 overs 6/105. ... In reply Chalambar come out on the front foot with Shaun Smith and Ryan Bertram smashing the ball around the park before Bertram was dismissed. Smith was the next to fall with just 15 runs required to win. Luke Walker and Reece Kettle saw Chalambar home with 11 overs to spare. They finished 2/106. Shaun Smith was voted the B Grade most valuable player after taking 1/15 from his 7 overs and making 36 opening the batting. Congratulations to Chalambar on a strong finish to the season and commiserations to Rhymney/Moyston who also had a great second half of the season.

03.01.2022 Grampians Cricket Association A Grade Grand Final Preview: The A Grade Grand Final will be played against Stawell rivals Swifts/Great Western and Youth Club after both teams had very convincing wins in their Semi Final matches at the weekend. Swifts/Great Western finished atop of the A Grade home and away ladder a head of Youth Club in second. Both teams won seven of their eight games but it was Swifts/Great Western who were able to secure two outright victories during the se...ason that saw them take top spot. This year Swifts/Great Western and Youth Club have faced off in a One Day Match and a Two Day Match. Youth Club took out the first encounter in the One Day format whilst Swifts/Great Western were to strong in the Two Day format in the second meeting between the two teams. Both team's captains Sam Cocks Swifts/Great Western and Nic Baird Youth Club have done the bulk of the scoring for their teams this season. Both will be key wickets for the opposing team. Cocks said of Baird "He is a dangerous batter we know that. Hopefully we can get him early and put pressure on their other batsmen." Baird said of Cocks "Sam can take the game away from you very early on in the innings. We need to get him cheaply and make some inroads into their middle order. But we know they have dangerous batsmen in the middle order too." When asked about their bowling Cocks said "We have four quicks that have taken double figure wickets this year led by Jayden McCartney so we are very confident they can do the job. It's good for us to having some flexibility if one option isn't working we have a few more up our sleeves." Baird and his Youth Club team are searching for their first Grand Final win since 2003/04. "We have stumbled in the Semi's the last few years so it's a good feeling to make a Grand Final. We have a young team so hopefully they can soak the week up and enjoy the challenge against a very well rounded side in Swifts/Great Western. We have some young blokes that have grown in confidence in the past month such as Matt Healy, Bailey Taylor and Harvey Evans so that is a big boost for us if they can continue that." The three day match will be played across Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Stawell's Cental Park with play starting at 1pm each day.
