25.01.2022 Just because we've been quiet, doesn't mean we haven't been busy! Grandpa's Hat is now well into its second print run - and if you or someone you know or love is struggling with loss and grief, and needs a little help, the gift of a copy of Grandpa's Hat might just be one way of reaching out. We're finding this humble little book is helping just as many adults as children - the continuing pain of loss is such a shared experience. Go to the Nalag Centre website to order your copy. And remember - ALL the proceeds go to help NALAG to continue the wonderful work they do to help people who are suffering loss and grief. NALAG Centre for Loss & Grief - www.nalag.org.au
22.01.2022 Big thanks to the organisers of the Snowy Mountains Readers and Writers Festival for having Grandpa's Hat author Jen Cowley and illustrator Mark Horton along for the weekend! Stunning day in the park alongside beautiful Lake Jindabyne.
21.01.2022 This time of year can be particularly difficult if you've lost someone you love and this will be the first Christmas without them. And that's also the case for children, who often don't quite understand their loss and grieving process. That's where Grandpa's Hat can help - both adults AND children. So if you know someone who might benefit from this humble little book, it would make a great Christmas gift, and you'll be helping to support NALAG - the National Association for Loss and Grief.
21.01.2022 Last month, our author Jen Cowley was among just four finalists in the 2016 NSW/ACT Regional Community Achievement Awards (Volunteer Category) - a great feather in the cap for Grandpa's Hat, and an acknowledgement of the hundreds of hours of voluntary work that's gone into this important and life-changing project, not only from Jen, but from illustrator Mark Horton, and all those amazingly generous people from Rotary and the wider community who helped to make the book happen. And while we're on the subject of acknowledging volunteers, here's a massive shout-out to all those dedicated people who give their own time to help others as volunteers at NALAG. They're quietly helping to save and heal lives every single day. And Grandpa's Hat is proudly a part of that too.
21.01.2022 It's a year today since we (or more precisely, these two gorgeous little girls, to whom the book is dedicated) launched Grandpa's Hat - and what a year it's been, with this humble little book having helped hundreds of both children and adults to understand and work through their grief. All proceeds from the book, written by Jen Cowley and illustrated by Mark Horton, go to NALAG to help support the work they do with helping people who are suffering loss and grief. If you don't yet have a copy, or you know someone who might be helped by the book's gentle message of hope and comfort, Grandpa's Hat is available through NALAG's website at www.nalag.org.au.
21.01.2022 Grandpa's Hat author Jen and Nalag manager Trudy Hanson are presenting at the Aboriginal Child, Youth and Family Strategy conference in Dubbo.
20.01.2022 Pretty chuffed to have had presented to the #dukeandduchessofsussex #princeharry and #meghanmarkle the gift of a copy of Grandpa's Hat on behalf of #nalag and ...#rotary during the reception at the #rfds today. Funded by Rotary, the book is a resource for NALAG (National Association for Loss and Grief) to help parents and carers to guide children through loss, grief and the difficult conversations around death and dying. All proceeds go to NALAG Maybe the book will wind up in the nursery bookshelf - a little bit of the #aussie #bush and #dubbo in #kensingtonpalace - wouldn't that be a nice legacy? And thanks to Steve Cowley for the photos :-) #lossandgrief #GrandpasHat #royalvisit #harryandmeghan #childrensbook See more
20.01.2022 A little children's book with a big message.
20.01.2022 If there's a little person - or a big person, for that matter - in your life who is struggling to come to terms with a loss, or who is battling to understand and manage their grief, let them know they're not alone. A copy of Grandpa's Hat can really help - as can the team at NALAG (National Association for Loss and Grief). Go to the Nalag Centre website for more information on how you can get help, or to get a copy of Grandpa's Hat.
17.01.2022 Great day out and a wonderfully warm welcome for Grandpa's Hat and the Nalag team at Bourke, visiting the library and the Rotary Club and meeting lots of terrific locals. Proud to share the "stage" with Toni Grant and Donna Falconer and their books. Thanks for having us, Bourke
17.01.2022 We are very proud to have been named as one of four finalists for the 2016 NSW Regional Achievement and Community Awards in the volunteer category - and whether we win or not, we are thrilled with the acknowledgement of the impact this humble little book has had in helping people of all ages work through loss and grief, and of the contribution it's made to helping NALAG (National Association for Loss and Grief) to do the incredibly important work they do.
16.01.2022 Terrific day out for Grandpa's Hat at beautiful Bourke - such a warm reception from a standing-room only crowd at Bourke Library with our author Jennifer Cowley and the team from Nalag Centre :-) Thanks for having us Bourke!
12.01.2022 Please share with anyone you know who's out Bourke way - we love sharing the love! :-)
11.01.2022 Grandpa's Hat and author Jen Cowley had a little outing recently with the wonderful women of the Quota community, at the Quota International Regional Conference in Parkes. Thank you so much for having us, ladies, and for all the wonderful work you do throughout our communities to make the world a better place.
10.01.2022 We can say we knew him when.... :-) VERY proud that "our" artist, Mark Horton, was a finalist in the 2016 Archibald Prize - and that a selection of those works, including Mark's portrait of Police Minister and Member for Dubbo Troy Grant, is now touring the country. The exhibition will be coming to Dubbo next week - so if you're around, come along and meet Mark at the opening on Friday 7.
03.01.2022 We are SO proud of "our" illustrator, Mark Horton - who has just been named a finalist in the 2016 Archibald Prize! Now the world will know what we've known for ages - this is one very versatile and very talented man! Congratulations, Mark!
02.01.2022 Our illustrator Mark Horton was kept busy all day with a stream of enthusiastic youngsters who joined in his workshops at the Snowy Mountains Readers and Writers Festival at Lake Jindabyne.
02.01.2022 We received this lovely post today from Newcastle-based secondary school teacher, Tanya Nicholls - and we think it's worth sharing! "My year 8 English class are looking at Picture Books at the moment. Along with a selection from the library, I brought in my copy of 'Grandpa's Hat'. One girl immediately recognised it ("I read it to my little sister when my uncle died") and after reading it another girl remarked that it was wonderful and made her cry. So congratulations, Mrs Cowley - you have the teen stamp of approval!" Thanks for sharing, Tanya - and tell your class we all say "hello" and "thank you"! Perhaps some time soon, Jen and/or illustrator Mark might be able to visit?
01.01.2022 We were so thrilled to have this lovely feedback from a young mum who received a copy of Grandpa's Hat as a gift for her children. It's SO great to see this humble little book doing so much to help parents/carers/teachers etc with the sometimes tricky conversations about death, dying, loss and grief. Thank you SO much for your feedback, Jaye Cox. We are sending you love!
